Avatar m tn Progesterone is needed to oppose oestrogen in men. If this goes on for long enough a man (yes, and a woman) can become oestrogen Dominant (too much oestrogen relative to Testosterone). By lowering stress and thus.. reducing cortisol, my progesterone levels should return to normal levels. If that is the case then why wouldn't it counter the extra oestrogen in my body automatically and remove the effects of oestrogen dominance?
Avatar f tn There is a link between low oestrogen and urinary infections as well for many women and I use oestrogen cream for vaginal prolapse, and for urine infections as well. The oestrogen receptors in the bladder uptake the oestrogen through the vagina which keeps the lining of the bladder and gag layer thicker as well as helps the vaginal tissues as well. Your GP needs to assess if vaginal oestrogen is safe for you to use and they can prescribe it.
Avatar n tn I think i have found that high prolactin usually goes hand in hand with high estrogen, and high estrogen can cause fibroids. I am 30 and facing needing a hysterectomy due to 4 LARGE fibroids which the docs keep telling me, "some people just grow them" without really ever checking any further. I am on a mission of sorts to learn what I can as this response does not sit well with me and i feel there has to be a root cause. HELP!
Avatar n tn I am 51 and going through peri menopause and had my hormone levels checked my Estrogen is 5x the amount it should be . I had the pelvic ultrasound inside and out and showed nothing, but my Regular MD is unsure and wants to send me to a Gyn , she is very concerned but I have read a lot about Estogen Dominince and it's common and also says it can be brought down by progesterone is this true?
161647 tn?1280608163 Before menopause, the body prepares for menstruation by initiating the pituitary gland to release FSH and LH so as to stimulate the ovary in order to produce oestrogen and progesterone neccesary for the preparation of the uterus and cervix to ensure conception and implatation of the egg if fertilized.so low oestrogen and progesterone stimulates their release.however, when present in high levels they also inhibit the production of both fsh and Lh.
3046028 tn?1340538562 I've read oestrogen affects the blood cholesterol levels and also regulates the circulation of LDL and HDL. Interesting. According to Dr Sandra Cabot "the risk of cardiovascular disease can be reduced by 50% by taking oestrogen at or soon after the menopause". Phytoestrogens are a natural alternative to hormone replacement therapy. Found naturally in plants, phytoestrogens may help protect against breast cancer, bone loss, hot flashes, and high cholesterol.
Avatar n tn I think there is said to be a difference between vaginal and oral as far as how much estrogen travels in your system.
16702 tn?1234090645 I think what everyone should be consdiering (and is talked about) is phytoestrogens compared to oestrogen/estrogen that your body makes. Remember that plant phytoestrogens are less that oestrogen so that's why they are important in cancer treatment (for estrogen based cancers) they mimic oestrogen and can bond/prevent cancer that way. The best ones are fermented soy. I've written and talked about this extensively before (here's a link: http://www.alanpeto.
Avatar m tn As I understand it, when one injects testosterone (lets say Testosterone Enanthate) the body converts (with an enzyme) the excess testosterone into estrogen. The pituitary gland also senses this huge influx of testosterone and sends a message to the testes in the form of Oestrogen to shut down the bodies natural production of testosterone.
Avatar f tn Is there a right or wrong answer to using estrogen blockers for ADH? I realize that ADH isn't cancer just a disorder that puts me at a higher risk to develop breast cancer. Has the research shown that it is better one way than the other? Estrogen blockers vs. monthly breast self-exams, MRI's of the breast and noting any type of changes in the breast? I'm only 54 years old and not really sure what to do from here?
Avatar f tn Hormonal fluctuations gave me terrible migraines and weakness and i was getting all sorts of symptoms from low estrogen. I had it pre pregnancy all my life but it's exponentially worse now. With the suggestion of my previous endo i tried birth control pills. 1. Microgynon 20: fixed migraines but have me daily headaches, joint pain, dryness, and terrible mood swings and back pain (I'm still going to physio. Does low oestrogen cause back spams? ? Mine hasn't let go). 2.
Avatar n tn I was told that this is normal in some women and is usually due to high levels of oestrogen (estrogen in US) .. unfortunately I wasn't trying to conceive then though!! I don't think it's anything to worry about ... if it does get heavier though, I would see your doc .. but as long as it's light and brief I'm pretty sure that's what it would be.
Avatar f tn I have just started the menopause but because of my history, I cannot take HRT or anything with oestrogen in it. Can anyone suggest anything I can take?
Avatar n tn I'm sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis but now is the time to go forward with your treatment. Chemo is always recommended when lymph nodes are found to be positive and that's what the Dr. meant by "being effected". Just because your relative had nodes removed doesn't mean that they had been invaded by the cancer cells. Radiation is always given after a lumpectomy regardless of node involvement.
Avatar f tn I have been on estrogen replacement since my surgery in 1998. I still have moderate-severe hot flashes and they seem to be getting more intense with age. I switched from oral Premarin which covered me pretty well but I didn't want to be taking pills the rest of my life. Since then I have tried a variety of patches that are really not very effective on a regular basis and very expensive. At my age, what do you recommend. Is Premarin dangerous (risk of DVT).
Avatar f tn A score of Estrogen Receptor positive (ER+) means that estrogen is causing your tumor to grow, and that the cancer should respond well to hormone suppression treatments. If the score is Estrogen Receptor negative (ER-), then your tumor is not driven by estrogen, and your results will need to be evaluated along with other tests, such as your HER2 status, to determine the most effective treatment. Positive vs.
1615999 tn?1307461942 Or instead of smoking ( :P ) there are supplements that lower your oestrogen levels (the bad, wandering oestrogens) called DIM and myomin.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm 33 years old and having trouble getting pregnant. I'm likely to start down the IVF route soon but I'd like to know the reason for something and if it will have any impact on the IVF (esp what drug protocol would likely be most effective). It seems that I only ovulate when I've taken the trigger (HCG) shot. I'm monitoring my cycles with the clearblue fertility monitor. My cycle usually goes: period, then rising oestrogen levels...which stay high but I don't ovulate.
Avatar f tn nerve endings that are over sensitive and therefore register pain constantly.....my cancer was oestrogen positive and therefore no tamoxifen etc. So far all scans are clear..BUT you give me hope to go back and do more investigation. A pain clinic is a great idea. I dont know why but we seem to just put up with things instead of researching further. I came across your website last night.
Avatar n tn As for taking oestrogen, I did get consult gyn and because I have endometriosis, using just oestrogen is not an option for me, that's why I went back on combined pill. Gyn was not happy as I am a hight risk of dvt etc and has refused to give me a script. I understood the risks when I asked gp for it but I think I will just suck it up and see how I go unless you have any advice on this for me.
Avatar f tn Estrogen dominance is more common because while both progesterone and estrogen levels fall during perimenopause, progesterone drops further than estrogen so that the ratio is less in progesterone than estrogen. Two to 3 pads daily is perfectly acceptable and nothing to be concerned about. They consider it "extensive bleeding" when you are soaking through a thick pad an hour or less for more than 24 hours. You're not even close!
Avatar f tn I use oestrogen 25 mcg, and progesterone every second month. Now I have had progesterone for 14 days, and have had slight bleeding for three days. I have had no bleeding for over 25 years. I have recently increased daily dose of vitamin D to 75 mcgs. In last summer I had a polyp in my uterus. The polyp and the endometrium were taken off. Is the bleeding due to good effects of vitamin D, or is it due to poorly healed endometrium. What else?
Avatar n tn Please tell me after afull hysterectomy , does she need oestrogen and progesterone, or one or the other. She was on oestrogen patches with no joy , now on oestrogen tablets and the weight gain and bloating is making her very unhappy , the doctors say the weight gain is nothing to do with the operation..that is the biggest load of codswollop even i have heard.
