Avatar f tn The side effects of Incurin (estradiol) are similar to the effects of any other reproductive hormone therapy and include: hair loss, swollen vulva, swollen mammary glands, and vomiting. The most serious effect from high doses is that estrogen (the active ingredient in Incurin) may have a tumour-promoting effect in target organs with estrogen receptors, such as the mammary gland. The most dangerous effect of PPA (phenylpropanolamine) is hypertension.
Avatar n tn s breast cancer is Estrogen receptive, Tamoxifen or other similar drugs would work against the effects of estrogen on these cells. It is often called an “anti-estrogen.” As a treatment for breast cancer, the drug slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that are present in the body. As adjuvant therapy, tamoxifen helps prevent the original breast cancer from returning and also helps prevent the development of new cancers in the other breast. The cost of Tamoxifen varies, depending where you live.
Avatar n tn The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Avatar m tn Some sites even stated I should have been on HCG during my therapy to reduce the side effects of shrinking testicles, which I have experienced. HCG is supposed to reverse this so I'm wondering if this is what I need, or just another supplement I can buy to help me feel better and energetic again. My doctor has given me no suggestions or recommendations so ANY help is much appreciated!!!

Avatar f tn It seems to me that there is a lot more risk in taking tamoxifen for 5 years -then 5 - 8 weeks of radiation therapy, if that's the case, why would tamoxifen be recommended over radiation?
Avatar f tn Hi, Even with a total hysterectomy, the body will still produce some estrogen which is effectively blocked with an aromatase inhibitor (such as arimidex,Femara etc). In one study, aromatase inhibitors were found to offer greater benefit than tamoxifen in Post- menopausal women.Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen especially to the breast tissue. This is an important distinction because aromatase inhibitors cannot be used in Pre- menopausal women.
Avatar n tn am, Tamoxifen is a drug that blocks the action of the hormone estrogen. Side effects of this drug may include : nausea, hot flashes, weight gain or headache. Avatar f tn the data for ovarian cancer is not so clear. There definitely are side effects to femara! Tamoxifen usually gives the least side effects but Arimidex may be OK as well. For women with BRCA1 mutation, there is good information to suggest that a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy is the best risk reducing intervention. You should meet with a breast oncologist to discuss the pros and cons of this. best wishes to you!
Avatar f tn I would like some information on maintenance chemo.I have ovarian 3c and I've had 3 treatments or Carbo and Taxol. My CA-125 went from 170 after surgery to 102 after 1st chemo to 16 after 2nd chemo.I hardly have any side effects from the chemo so I figure i can't hurt me.I spoke to my doctor about it and she said to ask her after my 5th chemo.I'm from Quebec,Canada and we have medicare here and I feel like doctors don't do much unless you are in serious condition.

Avatar n tn Hi, Low dose regimens are used to decrease the side effects of the chemotherapeutic agents and to obtain the maximum therapeutic benefit. About whether you need to take it or not, i suggest you consult your breast specialist and ask him/her what is best for you. You need to understand that the advantages of radiation therapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy are prevention of recurrence, increasing the disease free survival period and to prevent the ocurrence of metastasis.
Avatar n tn Are there any side effects with this disease other than the outbreaks? I'm having an issue with vaginal lubrication and I was diagnosed 3 years ago. And I'm wondering if this virus could be the reason.

Avatar n tn Hi there, Thank you for writing to us here, though I am sorry that you are struggling with side effects from the result of breast cancer medication. I am also a breast cancer survivor, however as I am triple negative, the hormonal drugs are not effective for me so unfortunately I cant speak from experience. However, that doesn't mean that I cant find out some interesting information for you in relation to libido and Arimidex.
Avatar f tn Hi Madge,It's been sometime now that you've been struggling about the Tamoxifen.I know you don't like to take this drug because of it's side effects and so do I.Is your atypical hyperplasia estrogen receptive?.Even thought it's not cancer (Thank God) do doctors advise you to take this drug?If yes then take it if it means that it can protect you and give you peace of mind.My sister has been on it for the past year and she has very little side effects.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had experience with Duavee or Prolia? My doc did not go over the side effects of these but when I looked up Duavee it looked like hormone meds had severe side effects, one being particularly important to women, the increased risk of uteurus cancer. I guess I read that some take progestins with it to help decrease the risks of uterus cancer, but on the warning it says not to mix any additional estrogens or progestins together. Are these meds worth the benefits over the cons?
Avatar n tn HI, HRT is not necessary as a routine when ovaries are removed, because HRT has its own side effects. If you are having any menopausal symptoms then you will need it. If not then it is better to weigh the pros and cons before starting HRT. Consult your Doctor. Hope this helps.

5909323 tn?1376917435 I have found this previously and it is very helpful - the only thing that concerned me is that this person is not using Incivek so therefore, I do not know if all of the side effects are common to the triple therapy rather than the combo treatment. Thanks!
