3093770 tn?1389739126 The nature of this neurotoxicity is speculative, and there is no definitive treatment. Because animal studies suggest that IFN-alpha acts at opioid receptor sites, we gave naltrexone, a long-acting opioid antagonist, to 9 patients who had hematological malignancies and who suffered from IFN-alpha side effects. Seven of these patients experienced complete or moderate relief of side effects.
Avatar f tn also known as ER) is a gene that encodes an estrogen receptor protein, estrogen receptor α (ERα). ... The symbol ER generally refers to ERα. ESR2:Estrogen controls many cellular processes including growth, differentiation and function of the reproductive system. Estrogen is also responsible for the growth and maintenance of the skeleton and the normal function of the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Avatar f tn A score of Estrogen Receptor positive (ER+) means that estrogen is causing your tumor to grow, and that the cancer should respond well to hormone suppression treatments. If the score is Estrogen Receptor negative (ER-), then your tumor is not driven by estrogen, and your results will need to be evaluated along with other tests, such as your HER2 status, to determine the most effective treatment. Positive vs.
Avatar n tn 0, 5% or less; 1+, 6% to 25%; 2+, 26% to 50%; 3+, 51% to 75%; and 4+, 76% to 100%. Estrogen receptor alpha and PR were frequently expressed in adult granulosa cell tumors (66% and 98%, respectively) and Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors (79% and 86%, respectively). Diffuse (3+ or 4+) expression of PR was more common in adult granulosa cell tumors (68% vs. 36%; P = 0.013), whereas diffuse (3+ or 4+) expression of ERalpha was more frequent in Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors (50% vs. 20%; P = 0.010).
492898 tn?1222243598 A breast cancer is said to be hormone receptor positive if shows evidence of estrogen or progesterone receptors (cell components that will bind to these female hormone molecules to bring about changes with in the cell). Laboratory tests are performed after surgery or biopsy to determine if the breast cancer cells are hormone receptor positive.
Avatar n tn Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator, meaning that it targets estrogen in the breast independent of ovarian production of estrogen. However, if you have had your ovaries removed, then you would be postmenopausal and could possibly take an aromatase inhibitor instead of tamoxifen. Either way, if your breast cancer is hormone receptor positive, then hormone therapy would likely be recommended as the body does produce estrogen outside of the ovaries.
Avatar m tn Hepatic expression of estrogen receptor (ER)? was increased by estrogen exposure. In HepG2 cells, upregulation of ER? reduced HBV transcription, which required a specific region within enhancer I. Direct DNA-binding of ER? and histone deacetylase activity were not required for ERa-mediated repression of HBV genes. Overexpression of hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF)4?, which binds to this region, overcame the repressive effect of ER?. ER?
Avatar n tn Hi. The estrogen receptor status of tumors can change over time. A mass of breast cancer is actually composed of a mixed population of cancer cells. Some cells are strongly ER positive, some only mildly so, and some are even ER negative (do not contain estrogen receptors). When exposed to an aromatase inhibitor like letrozole, those cells which are strongly ER positive are very susceptible to the effects of this drug and either die off or stop multiplying.
Avatar n tn Hello -- I have been trying to find out whether consuming flax seed would interfere with the efficacy of the taxol / herceptin treatments that I am receiving for my breast cancer. I understand from a study done at the University of Toronto that flax seed may help to eliminate breast cancer. However, I would not want to consume anything that would interfere with my regular medical treatment. The cancer is in the left side of my lymph system. It is estrogen-receptor and HER-2 positive.
Avatar m tn Do you know if your cancer was estrogen receptor postive? It is important to know that before you consider HRT. If it is estrogen receptor positive, then you definitely don't want to start taking hormones. Have you talked to your doctor about it? There are other things out there that can help with the symptoms that would be safer. Don't try OTC medications as they can mimic soy in the body, which cancer cells can view as estrogen. It sounds like you have your cancer under control.
Avatar m tn estrogen receptor,,92%,,progesterone receptor,,20%,,,ki-67,,30 %,,her-2/neu,,4.0 ( overexpression). On thursday I"m scheduled for a lumpectomy and I"d like to understand this report as I"m very scared right now and confused.
Avatar f tn ductal, lobular invasive and insitu. Her2neg., estrogen+,est. and prog. receptor assay 80% positive cells. Does this mean 20% of my cancer can be fed by something else than estrogen? On femara, so does this mean femara is only helping the 80% and the 20% is not being addressed. Only was addressed through ACT .
Avatar n tn as long as you regularly do annual mammography to detect any recurrence of your DCIS, i think that it would be fine since estrogen will not have an effect since your cancer back then was receptor negative. you should consult your gynecologist about it.
Avatar n tn Ovary removal removes part of the estrogen production but then you still have your adrenals producing estrogen too. I do not believe it negates the need for Tamoxifen or drugs like it. However, it does decrease the chance for ovarian cancer! That's a good thing :) I don't know your age range but if you are relatively youngish... 30's or early 40's I would think twice about removing ovaries because that can cause issues too and you don't need anymore issues.

Avatar m tn in April 2011, estrogen and progesterone receptor status is a predictive marker of early breast cancer and post-treatment relapse. As you get older your hormone levels decrease, and your fat cells in your body increases. This can cause higher levels of aromatase, an enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen. The treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in men and breast cancer in post-menopausal women is to use a class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors.
Avatar f tn Hi , Some research has shown that hormone receptor negative breast cancers, which triple-negative breast cancers are actually respond better to chemotherapy than breast cancers that are hormone-receptor-positive. If your Doctor advised you to receive or not to receive Chemotherapy and you are not completely sure what to do,then by all means seek a second opinion from a Breast Specialist. This way you will know how to proceed and what is best for you. Good wishes and prayers are sent your way!
Avatar f tn I am wondering if supplementing a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) with t-blockers and estrogen would allow me to feminize my body while preventing breast tissue development. I understand this would be an unorthodox use of SERMs, but the only other alternative I could think of would be to just take t-blockers which I know is fairly dangerous in the long-term. Would this use of SERMs be safe/effective? Thank you!
Avatar n tn Hi again, From what I understand Evista is a "Serm" ( _____ Estrogen Receptor Modulator) .. Which I was told actually "repels" estrogen. I was put on it about 7 years ago, when I just flat out refused to continue the HRT since my mammograms were looking suspicious and yet nothing turned up thankfully. I was also told that Evista (even though couldn't be advertised as such) actually showed fewer breast cancers with users.
Avatar f tn The hormone receptors refer to the ER (Estrogen Receptor) and the PR (Progesterone Receptor). You have mentioned that in your case these were negative when you had breast cancer 10 years ago. All the best for the biopsy, and hopefully the result will be fine!
Avatar f tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. Both of these medications have similar FDA approved indications.
Avatar m tn m in the UK and understand that in the US you work to 1 mm margins) I was told that after this second procedure, because it is high grade I will need 3 weeks radiotherapy, however I asked for a copy of the report and although it was not mentioned to me, as they want to take one step at ta time! i read the part about estrogen receptive and it says - Q score 7...can anyone enlighten me on what this means? I have a feeling that it may mean I need to go on Tamoxifen or similar after the treatment.
