587083 tn?1327120262 With menopause your body stops making estrogen. Eating soy products seems to boost the estrogen a bit, but is that good? I was a regular consumer of soy milk, tofu, edamame and flax seed after menopause. After my diagnosis of breast cancer (estrogen positive) my oncologist recommended I avoid soy products because even the weak phytoestrogens may stimulate cancer cells. Research is not conclusive but better to be safe. As the addage goes, 'all things in moderation.
Avatar n tn In vitro studies concluded that females with current or past breast cancer should be aware of the risks of potential tumor growth when taking soy products, as they can stimulate the growth of estrogen receptor-positive cells in vitro. The potential for tumor growth was found related only with small concentration of genistein and protective effects were found with larger concentrations of the same phytoestrogen.
548091 tn?1348947013 those suppliments shouldnt have an effect on your estrogen levels, its more likely things like soy products, plastics etc, this sight has great info www.natural-fertility-info.
Avatar f tn So, while our estrogen levels fall by a certain percentage, our progesterone may drop far more. That may leave us estrogen dominant and adding more products that stimulate estrogen can lead to things like a thickening of the endometrium which, over time, can lead to precancerous or even cancerous situations. Estrogen and estrogen like compounds can be stored in fat while progesterone can't (especially if we are already overweight).
Avatar f tn I went to a hormone doctor, they drew blood and found out I had way to much estrogen in my body. Which can be because of milk and meat and plastics. Well being a vegitarian I knew it was not the meat...lol. But, I ate soy meat and drank soy milk. These raise you estrogen. Also I drank bottled water in plastic. WEll laying off of these helped some , got hormone free reg milk and cut down on soy meats but it took taking Indole-3 carbinol 400 mg. a day to work.
Avatar f tn Mirena does not have estrogen in it, i'm pretty sure! Are you sure he said that?
Avatar n tn But giving up all dairy products is just smart. All dairy cows produce a lot of estrogen just to produce milk. Forget the fact that they are given de-wormers, antibiotics, growth hormones and such. And animal estrogen isn't a good thing. Then there comes the debate about phytoestrogens in plants. Soy for instance .... so many studies and so many different answers! Keep everything in moderation and you will do well. I actually take a drug called neurontin for hot flashes.
Avatar f tn One of the benefits of soy is that it breaks down to a type of estrogen substitute. I have never taken estrogen replacement and my levels have always been great. Try a few soy products (ice cream, appetizers, supplements) and see if you feel better. Also, have you MD test your glucose levels. Both higher and lower levels will make you sweat!!
Avatar m tn Mercola explains more thoroughly and better than I can even begin to repeat why the traditionally fermented soy products are the only soy products that are even safe to consume. There were even case studies with video links concerning another natural doctor dealing with women's issues in particular who talked about vegan and vegetarian mothers who had consumed large amounts of the readily available soy that is on the market, as they are popular meat substitutes for vegans and vegetarians.
Avatar n tn Although all 3 are aromatase inhibitors, exemestane is a steroidal product that binds irreversibly to the estrogen receptor; the other 2 products are both nonsteroidal and are reversible inhibitors.
Avatar m tn Try phytoestrogens which mimic estrogen. You can find various phytoestrogen products in pharmacies and health food stores. Phytoestrogens include: Soy, Black Cohosh, Ginseng, Red Clover and **** Quai. One product my mother used was Phytolife by Blackmores. It took around 3 months for the full benefits to kick in.
1112541 tn?1286311213 Charliegirl: So glad to hear that your doctor is open to alternative remedies. There are so many that are very closed-minded, and refuse to even consider alternatives to HRT or other prescription meds. Please keep us updated! SassyLassie: You are so right about taking progestins to "oppose" any estrogens that we are taking - especially for those of us who haven't had a hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment, and yes, i will be using Estrogen Products to shrink them, and go the full way with the body changes that Estrogen can do
200220 tn?1361951554 My holistic doctor gave me natural progesterone cream to use to help me stabilize my moods and pick up the free estrogen that is floating in my body. My question to you is it dangerous to use with taking levothyroxine 37.5 with having hashimotor disease. My doctor is an MD also and seem to be very knowledgeable about the thyroid along with helping me with celiac disease. What is your experience with this natural product.
Avatar f tn I was not aware of that. Thought I was being safe. Thank you. I do plan on getting it checked out but am not able to afford it at this moment.
Avatar f tn Estrogen-injected cattle, birth control pill residue in our rivers and lakes, rare side effects of steroid treatments, pseudo-estrogen from soy products, pseudo-estrogen from BPA in baby bottles and cans - nothing will ever be proven but there sure is a hormonal mess out there...
Avatar f tn Although we do not yet have data on the safety, for ER+ BC survivors, of the use of locally (vaginally) applied estrogen products, two, Vagifem and Estring, provide very low doses of estrogen. Estring, for example, releases over 90 days an amount equivalent to taking oral estrogen for just 2 days, and Vagifem, aready a very low dose estrogen product, is now available in a 10 mcg dose, as well as the original 20 mcg dose.
Avatar f tn 1. Can I consume soy products? Is it suggested to consume soy products thrice every week. (I'm not sure about this. Somewhere I have read that soy has protein and for PCOS one should combine carbohydrate with protein, so it is good to have soy products. I have also read soy has phytoestrogen (estrogenic activity) so it will add to the already elevated levels of estrogen in the body of a PCOS sufferer, so it should be avoided.
Avatar f tn Some of the most common products are known as hormonal contraceptives (they contain estrogen and/or progestin). Hormonal contraceptives prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation.
Avatar f tn There are conflicting opinions about whether soy-containing foods are harmful or helpful in relation to breast cancer and/or the risk for breast cancer.
Avatar n tn s insulin levels, which in turn promotes estrogen production. Is there any conclusive science that the medical community is aware of, on any of this?If some sugar (refined or otherwise) can be safely consumed, i.e. "in moderation," what does moderation mean? How much is okay?
Avatar n tn Hello -- I have been trying to find out whether consuming flax seed would interfere with the efficacy of the taxol / herceptin treatments that I am receiving for my breast cancer. I understand from a study done at the University of Toronto that flax seed may help to eliminate breast cancer. However, I would not want to consume anything that would interfere with my regular medical treatment. The cancer is in the left side of my lymph system. It is estrogen-receptor and HER-2 positive.
Avatar n tn polyester, fleece, acrylic and nylon are the worst ones .I also react to some wood products, eg sawdust, fresh cut wood, cardboard, the ink on newspaper, felt pen ink, certain perfume scents, almost all laundry detergent scents. These are just the main ones there are other things I react to as well but sometimes it is hard to figure them all out, I am now 50 years old and have had reactions to these things for 7 years or so now.
Avatar f tn And I do always worry about Breast Cancer links and supplemental hormones including and especially estrogen. There are some otc products that might help you better for hot flashes. This is all just my opinion.
973741 tn?1342342773 But mostly, things are looking dried up and old. I know I AM old but is this estrogen declining? What are others experiencing? What kind of face products do you use?
Avatar n tn Estrogen doesn't cause breast cancer but it does feed it. If estrogen was the cause of breast cancer more young women would be being diagnosed with it when their estrogen levels are at their highest. Most diagnosis are made in post menopausal woman. There is one theory of thought that it may be estrone that really feeds breast cancer. Estrone is what our fat cells produce after menopause. Estradiol is what our ovaries made in our 20's and 30's.
