My concern is that I have been placed on the estrogen patch since one week after the surgery. I started having headaches, pains under my arms, and my feet started swelling more than usual. The doctor asked me to cut the patch in half, still changing it twice a week.
I was put on the 10 estrogen patch. (one pill a day) I am also on a low dosage of testosterone lotion, (one dose a week) due to being constantly tired. I have been tested for thyroid problem, came out pretty good. According to the Dr. the numbers were so close, it was not worth putting me on any medication, since the medication would cause another set of complete different problems.

My symptoms, like a lot of us here, include insomnia, diminished sexual desire, fatigue, headache, lethargy, depression, weight gain, vaginal dryness, stress incontinence... and LOTS of whining. I'll be 46 at the end of this month & just moved to a new state so I don't have the luxury of knowing any doctors. In the last 1-2 months I suddenly gained 40 + lbs & look pregnant. That seems to be where the weight all is. A urinalysis proved negative for pregnancy on Monday & with my 3 grown kids I did not gain this much weight &/or so fast. I just look pregnant & feel "full - heavy - tired & short of breath" most of the time.
Are you having any other symptoms like hot flashes or mood swings? Some women that have had hysterectomies also have thyroid problems. This can cause weight gain or not being able to lose weight. You may want to have thyroid testing done. Depo stops our body's production of estrogen and this is why we gain weight. I wish they would tell us this when we start. I used to be a petite model, and now I don't even feel comfortable in a bikini.
It could be the estrogen, but in my experience estrogen doesn't make you fat. For me, it wasn't until the progesterone that I felt bloated. It could be stress, making you eat, too.
hospital)coupled with an unruly young adult son, and a not so happy marriage. I really do not feel the 30 lb weight gain coincides with my diet. I truly do not feel what I eat could account for such a large weight gain. I have gone from a size 12 to a size 16, and look like I am 7 months pregnant. My hair is looking sgraggly and my nails are frail.I have been weaning off .25 climara patch and 100 mg progesterone since Dec 05. My gyn switched me to 0.3/1.
There are a few common misconceptions about weight gain and aging that I’d like to address. First, hormone supplements don’t cause weight gain - menopause, in general, with or without hormones, is associated with about a 10 pound gain. This often starts in perimenopause so it could occur as early as the 40’s. Second, lean muscle mass decreases slowly from mid-30’s probably until menopause when it decreases more steeply.
and learned more ortho evra - my my my leads to weight gain after you stop using it, weight gain increases estrogen, increases estrogen decreases chances of getting preg and it could 3-6 months to begin ovulating after stopping use....
increase production of testosterone causes an elevated level of LH in your system around ovulation time, as the egg matures instead of dropping like it should- it stays in your ovary and becomes a cyst. Symptoms of this- weight gain, facial hair, hair below the navel, or on the toes, deepening of the voice, irregular periods, ovulary pain, and increased risk of miscarriage (in some studies up to 30%).
Since you have high blood pressure, it is good to lower any additional risk for stroke or blood clots. Although you did gain weight while on estrogen, studies suggest that estrogen does not increase weight gain significantly. Aging does increase weight because metabolism slows down. So it will be important to look at how much you are eating, what food choices you are making, and how much you exercise to burn off what you eat before we can say if the weight gain was due to estrogen.
I was put on the Vivelle Dot patch and immediately began to gain weight. I had never had a weight problem before. Also to mention that a weight gain of so much weight also can be a cause of a heightening of the hot flushes. Fat stores estrogen and it's believed that estrogen is partially to blame for the hot flushes. There often isn't enough progesterone in the body to offset the extra estrogen and very often, doctors will make the mistake of giving estrogen when the real problem is a lack of progestrone.
I wear the estrogen patch because it bypasses the liver and is safer. I was a mess before I went on to estrogen. It has been worth everything for me.
