Estrogen over the counter

Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen over the counter

Has anyone taken over-the-counter estrogen? Did you find that it worked just as good as the prescription estrogen, better or worse? Thanks.
There are products you can buy over the counter but you really should ask your Dr if they're safe. Some women do well with using no HRT. Maybe in time your body will adjust and you'll quit having the hot flashes and mood swings. Has your Dr mentioned any other options?
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a Republican and a potential 2016 presidential candidate, has a solution for the GOP's birth control problem: Make it over the counter. "The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists announced its support last month for selling oral contraceptives over the counter without a prescription in the United States," Jindal writes in Friday's Wall Street Journal opinion section.
FYI - I have also been advised to stay away from over the counter HRT as they contain soy and black cohash which is found to mimic estrogen. While bio-identical might be the rage, when you have cancer, HRT is something that I feel carries a lot of risk, whether it be bio-identical, or natural..really think it thru.
Estrogen does play a role in lubrication etc. For the dryness there are some over the counter aids that you can look into or you can see about trying some estrogen cream on the outside of the vagina. I would start with the OTC bec it's not hormonal. Don't use plain lubrication; look for one that specifically is for vaginal dryness. You DEFINITELY need to stay away from the monostat! It will irritate you even more.
well i would say ask your Doctor to be sure. i just started myself on over the counter progesterone cream.sabre. so not sure what to tell you yet. my hot flashes are going all out right now. for years they were minimal, but not now. hence trying the cream to help. good luck.
If you're concerned about using hormones (as a lot of us are), you can try using an over the counter form of lubrication like plain old KY Jelly or, a more lasting preparation like Replens (every 2 to 3 days). The only thing that I'll mention about Replens is that it will give most women a "clumping" type of discharge that makes it appear as though it's a vaginal yeast infection. A lot of women go off of it because of this reason.
I have read that when you go on hormone cream at first that it activates your progesterone receptors and you feel good, but then eventually the estrogen becomes the dominant one and taking over and can lead to you feeling bad if you are estrogen dominant to start with. That kind of happened to me. I took the est/test cream and after two days I had a length of 4 days that I felt great, then slid downhill from there.
I think someone else posted about having too much Progesterone recently. I'm thinking that it would be the counter-effect of low Estrogen. I'll see if I can find the post to see what ever happened with her. Unfortunately, most women on here have the opposite problem and they're trying to increase their Progesterone. The only thing I could tell you about your fluctuations is the accuracy of the dates the tests were done.
My worry is that my mother survived breast cancer in both breasts due to estrogen fed cancer(both breasts were from a different estrogen). So, does this up my risk for estrogen related cancer? I already have yearly mammograms, but didn't know if maybe i should consider the DNA testing for the genes. The doc. mentioned treatment for my endo, but we want a second child as soon as i recover from surgery, and then we will consider treatment. Any thoughts on this??? TIA!
Too much estrogen leads to being overweight and cancers. I use a natural progesterone creme on my skin made out of yams and sold over the counter. Great stuff. You could also do a saliva test and see where your hormones are really sitting. You will need to not only look at the progesterone and estrogen levels but the ratio between them. I am not a doc, just passing on what I have read. Hope this helps.
The day the blood was drawn I ran to the store afterwards to pick up some over the counter progesterone and opened it in the car and used it there. I slept so well that night...no leg cramps. I stayed on the vivelle patch and the testosterone. But the delivery system on the progesterone seemed to really play havoc with me. I lost five pounds the first week. Water weight, I am sure. The last blood test results showed that my progesterone levels had not changed except for a .02 increase. So...
For hot flashes, you can ask your doctor about gabapentin (dosages increased over time up to 900mg/day) for the hot flashes. For dry vagina, try Replens, an over the counter product from most drug stores. It contains no hormones and is used daily for about one week and then twice weekly. It might also be helpful to meet with a mental health professional to assist you in coping with your symptoms which are understandably stressful and unpleasant.
In addition to that I can't use any shampoo/body wash other than one called TERSASEPTIC (over the counter) and I apply a topical antibiotic my dermatologist perscribed to me called CLINDAMYCIN to my skin if acne does begin to arise. I have had completely clear skin for over a year now and hope that what information I have given you can assist you toward the same goal. Good luck!
Sometimes I wonder if "crying spells" is a part of post-menopause. What I have found that has helped me is taking St. John's Wort; however my doctor did warn me that it is a "powerful" herbal. So, if you decide to try this over-the-counter herb, please contact your doctor first as it can and will react with certain prescribed medications. Hope this helps.
BUT if we get too much estrogen and/or progesterone, not enough estrogen and/or prgesterone, all hell brakes loose. Oh yeah we may end up having a period in the end but it's a long nasty road! No i am not a doctor but i have done a lot of research on the effects of prog/estrogen. you'd be amazed! There are tons and tons of women on hormone therapy (progesterone therapy) and they are finally happy. No more depression, anxiety, rage, weight gain, i could go on and on.
can you buy an over the counter drug like premarin? i know that premarin is estrogen, so what med would i look for/ i thought maybe they had an otc brand. not the creams but pills. would i look in the vitamin section of my store? im sorry for all the questions.
are there supplements that i can buy over the counter? is so what can i buy? and how often would i take it?
While on these medications some suggestions for relief of symptoms are Vitamin E 800IU daily, Vitamin B6 200mg daily or Peridin-C tablets 3 times a day. These are over the counter agents that may be helpful, but before using any supplements check with your doctor to make sure there is no problem with taking these in your particular situation. The goal of these supplements is not to eliminate hot flashes, but to lessen their intensity and frequency.
Could this be a normal thing for my age? No itching. Tried a vaginal cream over-the-counter, no help. No pain, but it's just annoying. Sometimes I think there is a slight odor too.
Im on birth control and i read that birth control can make you more likely to get yeast infections due to increased estrogen levels. I purchased over the counter creams that i started today, but haven't asked my mom to take me to a gynecologist because my mom doesnt know that i'm sexually active and im not ready to tell her. Is this a yeast infection or something more serious?
could it be bacterial or yeast?? you need something to treat so it will go away.
I really suffer from vaginal dryness and have tried everything over the counter. I am happily married but this is very difficult for both of us. Is an estrogen insert safe? My doctor said he does not have enough data on it. Are there products I can use that would give us back what we once had? Thanks.
However, the rule of thumb is that we need SOME progesterone to counter or balance the estrogen levels and in your case, a low dosage may be all that is needed to keep your estrogen levels counterbalanced. I'm not a doctor so, I'd suggest that you talk this over with him/her and see what is thought about this.
Antihistimines seem to lessen the immediate symptoms, but I take far more than what is seemingly allowed on these over the counter medicines like Zyrtec and Claritin. I cannot find a food trigger, and even increasing the testosterone gel as my doctor ordered has not helped.
Is this something I can just buy over the counter or does a Dr have to prescibe or give the treatment of?
No, you don't. But giving up all dairy products is just smart. All dairy cows produce a lot of estrogen just to produce milk. Forget the fact that they are given de-wormers, antibiotics, growth hormones and such. And animal estrogen isn't a good thing. Then there comes the debate about phytoestrogens in plants. Soy for instance .... so many studies and so many different answers! Keep everything in moderation and you will do well. I actually take a drug called neurontin for hot flashes.
Congratulations on your 17 year survival. That is terrific! You might be worried about taking estrogen because you fear any increased risk of cancer. Although many women share that fear, there is not a link between estrogen and ovarian cancer so in theory it would be a reasonable consideration to take estrogen. A discussion of bioidentical estrogens is a very long discussion, more than we can do here.
You need to get off the synthetic and take a good, bio-identical hormone cream, a compounding pharmacist can make this up for you once the doc prescribes it. You can also use a good, over the counter cream, I am talking about Progesterone by the way, it will help to alleviate the estrogen dominance and get those hormones back in balance.
My period is due soon but its been 31 days since last period. My estrogen to high? My Progesterone to low? Can you buy supplements for both over the counter? in stores? Thanks I'm 29 years old with 3 kids.
