Estrogen in yasmin

Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen in yasmin

Avatar f tn Anyway, I am currently considering having my doc switch me to Yasmine as I am not having such a good time with Ortho-Cyclen (which I had started just prior to surgery), understandably so since it is high in estrogen and low in progestin. Plus, I tolerated Yasmine well in the past. But, as far as I can research, Yasmine is not a first-line choice for endometriosis. Anyway, what have you been told and what is your experience thus far? Thanks.
Avatar n tn htm As you age , naturally your hormones change too. so a dosage of the same estrogen going in a year ago is going to be different another year. when you have a thyroid disorder even more imbalances will happen hormonally and the birth control will still be admitting the same estrogen as it did. It is totally logic sense - but you will have a hard time getting that though to a doctor.
Avatar f tn I see that the one hormone is the same but the other ethinylestradiol in YAz is 0.02 and in Yasmin is 0.03. What does this mean and is it safe to give her?
473222 tn?1214439873 Perhaps the effects will not become obvious until us women are in our fifties or sixties. I am a member of a forum called yasmin survivors. I probably cannot post links so if any body is interested, just google yasmin survivors and it should take you to the forum where you can read of other women's horrific side effects with yasmin and other birth control pills. I hate to think of any other women going through the terrible long term side effects that hormonal contraception can cause.
484167 tn?1210001396 ok i need some help here...i was on yaz for about 10 months when my periods started going hay-wire...like i would get a period in the middle of my cycle and not get my period while taking the"reminder pills"...my dr. gave me yasmin since i guess the level of estrogen is a little stronger...i have been taking it for over a week...i feel pregnant. my body feels just like it did when i was pregnant and i don't remember feeling this way at all when i started the yaz almost a year ago.
Avatar f tn I have been on Yasmin for almost 2 months, in the second month I started spotting non stop for almost a month. I’m going on vacation July 5th and don’t want to be dealing with this then. What is my best option, should I go off the pill all together? Will that stop my spotting? (I’m not concerned about getting pregnant). Should I switch to an estrogen pill? What’s my best option to stop this spotting!
Avatar f tn I take Marvelon21 and have since my surgery 4yrs ago. I am wondering if its the ingredients in the yasmin that could be doing it besides the progestin and estrogen? Where you taking it continuously with the yasmin 21 or the 28 day? MARVELON21 contains the below ingredients Each white, round tablet contains desogestrel 0.15 mg and ethinyl estradiol 0.03 mg.
Avatar n tn I was on YAZ for about a year without any "side effects", until the last two months. I've had out of cycle bleeding (mostly spotting) before my period. The doctor switched me to Yasmin, which has a higher dose of estrogen. She said that'd stop the spotting. So far.. so good. But she said it's not uncommon w/ YAZ to have these issues. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the "right" combination of medications for someone who needs to suppress menstrual periods and is also taking Lexapro and Lamictal for Major Depression with Bipolar 2 ? My daughter tried taking Yasmin continually (not taking the "fake" week of pills for 3 months) but experiences almost daily cramping, hot and cold flashes, nausea. The gyne was stumped as to which BC pill would be best, as Yasmin is for the PMDD, but causes the side effects for her.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been on Yasmin (BCP) for five years. They were prescribed to me after a lap in wich my right ovary was removed because of tumor, chocolate cysts, endometriosis and blood tickening. Because my left ovary was (and is) problematic (endo, c. cysts) Yasmin was prescribed to me in order to keep my ovary "in controll". Since than my periods are lighter and I don't have awful menstrual pains like I used to before the procedure and BCP.
Avatar f tn I'm not 100% sure if the pill is making you like this. You have been on it for a year with no problems and now all of sudden? I mean, you can switch your bc anytime you want it's just I'm not sure if it's that. Have you started on any other new medication recently? Maybe vitamins, or anything eles? Yasmin is what I take and it works perfect for my body. Never had a problem in the past 2 years I've been on it.
Avatar n tn Before that, I tried a tri-phasic pill (ortho tricyclen), and before that I was on Yasmin for at least 4 years. While on the Yasmin I never had any problems till about a year and a half ago the weirdness started. I think I might try Yaz. Maybe a smaller dose will help if a higher does not. I actually just moved and so have a new doctor who I haven't talked to about this yet as I've only seen her once - I will be at my next visit.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking so I could take the regular pill, but the doc I dealt with was worried I would smoke so she would only give me low estrogen pills. I have been bleeding for almost a full month, this being the third week into my first pack of Ortho Tricyclen Lo. Is this ever going to stop? All the doctors I've spoken with are certain it's hormonal because of the consistency of the spotting starting at the same time while not taking any form of birth control.
797256 tn?1237636468 I just had my hormones tested they tested LH, FSH, Estradiol I think that is (estrogen), that is it. They said they are in the normal range, now I got my insulin tested for insulin resistant and they said it came back in normal range, but the (family) doctor says he wants me to take the meds because of having all the symptoms of PCOS. 5 years ago I went to a fertility doctor (he got me prego) but before that he checked everything and said I have PCOS.
864198 tn?1239188205 Another thing that scares me about it, is i volunteer rescue pregnancy horses from canada (horses kept pregnant in little boxes for their urine for human estrogen medication.) I couldnt help think, "im a hypocrite" if i take these. i dont know how to live with that. how many other birth control pills do they have you on? they had me on progesterone and 2 different bc pills to stop the bleeding after an emergent dnc. does that sound like it couldve been the problem? too much?
Avatar n tn The doctor will start you on a basic birth control, probably combination estrogen / progestin, bare in mind there are different concentrations which can lead to different benefits/ side effects or they might not work as indicated at first. Doctors usually recommend 3 month trial before switching.
Avatar f tn Also, I have very high estrogen levels so adding more of the hormone effects me badly. I haven't had any negative effects with the hormones on this pill...and I've been on many, many, many!
Avatar f tn Thanks for repsonding. Yasmin has been turning up in a lot of my searching. My periods are totally irregular.. I'd probably only get 1 a year w/o the birth control. I thought it was because I was an athlete when I was younger.. then I went on birth control.. when I came off - years later - they were still out of whack and i was trying to get pregnant.. so I got it investigated and got the PCOS dx.
Avatar n tn prolactin and cortisol slightly above normal.prolactin was 34. My estrogen is very low at 15. I live in bonaire and the doctor told me come back in one month after you stop birth control pills yasmin. My tsh was retested along with prolactin and both went down one week after first lab results but i had not changed ant medications yet. Do you know what may be the issue???? The doctors here are taking this lightly and are not treating me. I feel awful?????
Avatar f tn i stopped taking the pill for 2 months because i needed a new prescription. i started again in march. i was supposed to start my second pack on sunday april 6th but the pharmacy was closed so i took 2 on monday april 7. i continued taking my pill. on wednesday april 9th i had unprotected sex. what are the chances of getting pregnant? i've been experiencing cramps and nausea. could i be pregnant?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed two weeks ago with hypothyrodism, I never knew anything about this. I was referred to an endocrinologist who explained to me part of what's the thyroid issue is about. He prescribed me Levoxyl to take for two months, in two months I have to go back to check my thyroids again and supposedly to determine if my issue is for life or not.
698575 tn?1229608278 Hi. I was on Yasmin three years, after that I was on Zoladex and now I am on Yasmin again. I don't know for sure, but I think that Yasmin prevents ovulation and it makes harder for sperm to reach uterus (it is harder for the fertilized egg to attach to the uterus). I have read this: The primary mechanism of Yasmin is inhibition of ovulation.
Avatar f tn Hello, You take all 28 Yasmin pills (the whole pack) and than you take a break of 8 days without Yasmin. In that 8 days you should get your period. On the 8th day you start the new pack of Yasmin. And every time the same. That's the process. When you want to end taking them for good you just stop taking them or consult a doctor if they are prescribed like some kind of therapy. Take care!
Avatar f tn Both Alesse and Yasmin are good for PCOS. I have been prescribed both by different PCOS specialists. I've been told that Yasmin (in combination with aldactone and propecia) is particularly good for combatting hair loss. Depending on your symptoms, you should go with the one that makes you feel best.
