Avatar f tn How is your estrogen and your DHEA-S? When your doc tests your testosterone, does he test bio-available testosterone, and does the doc test sex binding hormones, LH, FSH, to get the entire pic of your androgens and how your body is using the testosterone? Estrogen and testosterone and very very closely related - so it could be that your testosterone is simply converting over to estrogen instead of staying as testosterone. This cannot be controlled really - it just happens.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms may be due, at least in part, from not having enough estrogen. Women also lose about 50% of their testosterone when their ovaries are removed. Unfortunately, doctors fail to divulge this important information before surgery! 1mg of estrogen taken orally is a fairly low dose for a woman without ovaries. And some women do not absorb oral estrogen very well. Has your doctor ever checked your blood level of estrogen or estradiol?
414018 tn?1268611672 Terrific story! Thanks. : ) And thanks for all your hard work. Is your OVCA estrogen-dependent? Have you asked your doctor about taking anti-estrogen medication? I'm on one called Aromasin. It kills up to 95% of the estrogen in your body. I'm hoping it works for OVCA; it's in clinical trials for it now (it's used for breast cancer at the moment.) And hey, at least you're entering menopause as your winter is approaching in Australia. Happy hot flashes!
Avatar f tn Most of all my specialist and drs except for one specialist says I need to take combined hrt. Estrogen only taken by a lot of women in the 60 s showed there was an increase in uterus cancer for those who had their uterus in tact. The 70s saw a big increase in this type of cancer which is why they prescribe combined.
Avatar f tn This is why we recommend that women with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer avoid HRT as well as soy and other “natural” estrogen products.
Avatar n tn Plus remember tha there have been no studies looking at estrogen increasing ovarian cancer recurrence in women with a known ovarian cancer. So you are left with the option of just not taking estrogen because of a theoretical risk versus taking it because of the known benefits of sexual function, strong bones, improved quality of life. I have pasted the WHI summary below: Findings Summary Gynecologic cancers are cancers of female organs other than the breast.
Avatar n tn careful observation, medications to decrease estrogen, or some women might opt for surgery to remove the breasts (prophylactic mastectomy). Decisions are made after discussion and weighing of risks and benefits for the individual patient. Factors such as estrogen receptor status, age, and menopausal status, risk factors (strong family history, BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations) are taken into account in this risk/benefit discussion.
898000 tn?1242956625 I stopped earlier, at 4 weeks. In fact some women do not even take estrogen. I guess it's optional unlike progesterone which is a necessity. Congrats on your pregnancy!!!!
Avatar f tn A study testing the safety of vaginal estrogen (Vagifem) for vaginal atrophy/dryness in woman on estrogen-blocking drugs such as tamoxifen 4. A study testing the safety of low dose estrogen to treat hot flahes and vaginal dryness in women on AIs However, a search for estrogen as a treatment for ERneg BC turned up no results. If you come across the study you referred to again, I'd really appreciate a reference or link to the information...
Avatar f tn I am a 45 year old women who has been very active. I ran two half marathans in the past year. The most recent in May. In July I was diagnosed with DVT and PE. I am on Coumadin. I am having side effects which some doctors don't really recognize as side effect. However, there are many instances on discusson boards of people with the same side effects. They are headache, heart palpatations, light headedness, depression, not felling well, fatige.
Avatar f tn How old are you? This is an old post, so don't know if the person is still around, but there are many reasons for a woman not getting moist. In this case, the woman had never had sex yet, so she had no idea if she did have it if she would have responded by releasing vaginal secretions. I'm guessing she did. But as stated above, yeast infections can cause dryness. So can thyroid problems. So can hormonal problems.
Avatar n tn I was recently told I have "blood lakes" in my liver. I was told that usually women who have taken birth control pills show these changes in the liver (I guess due to increases in estrogen levels). But, I've never taken birth control pills and I am wondering why I have them. I was told that as long as they were not compromising the function of my liver to not worry about them and to have another ultrasound in 3 months.
Avatar f tn t women be allowed to have a small amount of the weak estrogen estriol present in their body to offset problems caused by not having estrogen? Why must ALL the estrogen be destroyed y these drugs - seems like serious overkill in my opinion.
Avatar m tn Systemic estrogen therapy — by pill, patch or gel — can have a positive effect on brain function and mood factors that affect sexual response. Local estrogen therapy — in the form of a vaginal cream or a slow-releasing suppository or ring that you place in your vagina — can increase blood flow to the vagina and help improve desire. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe a combination of estrogen and progesterone.
Avatar m tn Ovariectomy and estrogen supplementation were used to evaluate the effect of estrogen on HBV titers in transgenic mice with replicating HBV in hepatocytes. The effect of estrogen signaling on transcription of HBV genes, and the mechanisms of regulation, were studied in HepG2 cells. RESULTS: HBV titers increased in female mice after ovariectomy and decreased in male mice supplemented with estrogen. Hepatic expression of estrogen receptor (ER)? was increased by estrogen exposure.
Avatar f tn So I guess what I am saying is Anyones estrogen can be out of whack. Boy (guys have estrogen also in their body) ,girl or woman in peri-menapause. This is a natural suppliment. But, IF YOU ARE ON BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, IT WILL KILL IT, AND YOU COULD GET PREGNANT. Also if you ae on an estrogen birth control that may be what is causing you headaches.
Avatar f tn In pre-menopausal women, the ovaries create most of the estrogen, and after primary treatment, taking Tamoxifen will be sufficient to block estrogen from cancer cells. If needed, for young women with estrogen-sensitive breast cancer, ovaries can be temporarily shut down with ovarian suppression injections. For high-risk women, ovaries can be surgically removed (oophorectomy).
Avatar f tn I have a book called Menopause and the Mind and it has all the symptoms listed of when there is estrogen loss in some women. I have all of the symptoms, and there are a lot of them. I am 99.9% sure that I got this way because of my sharp decline in estrogen after having my twins. It all started the day after they were born. I would feel normal then not then normal then not. Eventually it settled into the freaked out feeling and has been that way ever since.
Avatar n tn This type of treatment is one of the appropriate hormone (anti-estrogen) treatments of estrogen receptive breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
973741 tn?1342342773 When I did IVF, they put me on big doses of estrogen and progesterone. After my son was born, I kept on hormones because I was going to do IVF again. No other child was forthcoming (after many other IVF rounds), and after what was apparently the last try, I stayed on a light dose of estrogen with progesterone half the month.
