Avatar m tn Is soy formula safe to give baby boys? I have heard that there are hormones in it.
Avatar f tn Some babies just spit up no matter what. My second and third are big spitters but they are perfectly healthy. As long as baby is gaining weight and doesn't seem to be in discomfort I wouldn't worry about it. Also I don't like soy baby formula because it has a form of estrogen in it from the soy itself and I don't think its good for babies. If baby seems like there is pain when spitting up it could be that he has reflux and needs to be put on a med like zantac.
Avatar f tn So I just got back from my sons pediatrician appt and basically she was saying what everyone has said its kinda making me upset I love my son more then anything in the world nd they keep saying just breastfeed every 2 hours no formula now she is saying the formula is notdigisting in his stomach if his poop smells has anyone heard of that?
Avatar f tn Soy is bad for boys though it has estrogen in it. Do a google search on soy products and boys.
Avatar f tn Actually, you've got problems with the DHA made from the algae, too. It's not generally absorbed by humans. Fish eat red marine algae naturally, which is how they get the DHA that is one of the two omega 3 oils people take fish oil for, but people don't. People do eat a lot of different algaes, but not red algae. That's why farm raised fish don't have omega 3 fats in them -- they don't eat the algae.
587083 tn?1327120262 With menopause your body stops making estrogen. Eating soy products seems to boost the estrogen a bit, but is that good? I was a regular consumer of soy milk, tofu, edamame and flax seed after menopause. After my diagnosis of breast cancer (estrogen positive) my oncologist recommended I avoid soy products because even the weak phytoestrogens may stimulate cancer cells. Research is not conclusive but better to be safe. As the addage goes, 'all things in moderation.
Avatar f tn I think that we all need to be careful with some of the herbal products in so far as we often don't know where our levels are of hormones. For instance, we can load up on products that stimulate estrogen (such as soy and other herbal preps) which can upset a balance needed between estrogen and progesterone. During menopause, both levels drop but, progesterone drops the most. So, while our estrogen levels fall by a certain percentage, our progesterone may drop far more.
Avatar f tn As for Soy, Asians eat a lot of soy in their diet, Soy formula is a good choice for infants, Soy-containing foods help prevent osteoporosis, Soy is a healthy food for adults, Soy helps improve libido in men. The above about Soy is false. Those who eat large amounts of soy, especially non-fermented soy, have severe hormonal imbalances that are very difficult or impossible to correct without eliminating or drastically reducing soy in the diet. i have seen soy as an ingredient added to tea bags!
Avatar f tn Try soy as a last resort but if soy works, keep trying to switch back to regular formula every month or so, because long-term soy use may not be healthy for babies. Advise your pediatrician of formula changes.
Avatar m tn had changed her regular formula to soy and her constipation issues were gone. At the age of one when she was put on cows milk the constipation issues returned. After struggling with on and off constipation I had put her on soy milk at the age of 4. Now, about 4 months later since I put her on soy milk I learned of the high estrogen content. I am concerned about this and wish to remove her from soy and try almond milk (she has no tree nut allergies).

Avatar f tn But, I ate soy meat and drank soy milk. These raise you estrogen. Also I drank bottled water in plastic. WEll laying off of these helped some , got hormone free reg milk and cut down on soy meats but it took taking Indole-3 carbinol 400 mg. a day to work. Everytime I try to quit taking this migraines return. So I know it its working. Now maybe 1 day of my period or rarely two I will have a migraine and sometimes not at all. If I do have them now they are less severe.
Avatar m tn re already dealing with thryoid issues, as the estrogen levels are still affected by the thryoid and vice versa, whether male or female. It is estrogen in particular that soy affects in a huge way. Dr. Mercola explains more thoroughly and better than I can even begin to repeat why the traditionally fermented soy products are the only soy products that are even safe to consume.
8541403 tn?1409425380 ( when I took him to the Dr she told me that the only time she recommends Similac soy is when a baby has been having diarrhea to help from its poop and that she only recommended it til bm was formed because studies found that the soy has to much estrogen hormones in it and can cause long term effects.. oh I hope they fig out for sure if that's what it is seeing ur baby uncomfortable is the worst thing in the world !
Avatar f tn Your milk won't last very long if you use formula. Breastfeeding is so much easier no bottles to wash or heat up in the middle of the night. Just sayin,...
316994 tn?1259003438 so I was wondering what the benefits and the side effects if any with using this formula.. also the soy formula looks way different then the enfamil lipil I was using... its alot thicker and stickier.. is this normal?
Avatar f tn Yes, I was on estrogen patches when I was first diagnosed with B6 toxicity, and in fact had been slowing ramping up on the estrogen. Estrogen reportedly increases your need for B6, which seems counterintuitive, since I had more B6 toxicity with higher levels of estrogen. Perhaps estrogen causes B6 to store more readily in the muscle? I have no idea, but there IS an effect, somehow. Also, during my B6 toxicity recovery, things were always much worse before my period.
Avatar f tn Also, just so you are aware, “natural” hormone replacement has the same risks of estrogen exposure as “clinical” HRT. Estrogen is estrogen, whether it is from soy or the lab. This is why we recommend that women with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer avoid HRT as well as soy and other “natural” estrogen products.
1039061 tn?1257878294 In women, Soy also mimics estrogen. So if you indulge in a soy filled meal, and then dont for a few days, the body can see this as estrogen fluctuations. Being a guy, I have no experience with this but have read it quite a few times in different places. One thing that is for sure: All hormones play tug of war with each other, so its best to keep them as balanced as possible. I think the difference is between fermented soy and um-fermented soy. - something for you to goggle.
551604 tn?1333983135 tiredbuthappy- what have you heard about soy formula? The only thing I have heard is that soy naturally contains estrogen. In recent news there have been jet fuel ingredients found in cow-based formulas and none in the soy-based formulas. So I was interested to hear what information you know of because we will most likely go straight to soy formula with this baby in the event I can't nurse.
Avatar n tn Flax seed and other oilseeds contained the highest total phytoestrogen content, followed by soy bean and tofu. The highest concentrations of Isoflavones are found in soy bean and soy bean products followed by legumes, whereas lignans are the primary source of phytoestrogen found in nuts and oilseeds (e.g. flax) and also found in cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables. Phytoestrogen content varies in different foods, and may vary significantly within the same group of foods (e.g.
Avatar n tn Formula is tricky. Every baby is different and will have different needs. Some babies are picky and others aren't. I would suggest starting with Enfamil Newborn and then adjusting as your baby grows and or needs change.
689528 tn?1364135841 With my kids that have been on soy formula, I usually start around11 months adding regular milk with the formula If I notice any digestive issues I back off and wait a bit. I slowly increased he milk and decrease the formula. This has been very successful. One of my kids did continue to have a lactose intolerance and was on lactaid for a year or so post-formula but he's been on regular milk since then and has no issues.
Avatar f tn My 4 month old son can only tolerate soy formula. I keep hearing all this stuff about soy being dangerous because of estrogens and that it can affect a baby's fertility and cause early puberty, etc. I am so nervous about giving him soy now. Should I try something else like alimentum or nutramigen (haven't tried them yet but they are so expensive) and avoid soy if possible? I just want to do what is best for him!
Avatar f tn My baby couldn't handle Infamil. It made her so sick while we were in the hospital. I put her on similac sensitive amd she's doing much better.
