Avatar f tn A woman with a light period is not gaining much thickness in her endometrial lining during the early part of the menstrual cycle. This is usually an indication that estrogen levels are lower than normal. If estrogen levels are low, progesterone levels are likely to also be low and a woman may or may not ovulate with her cycles.
20922415 tn?1661860103 It is the main and vital hormone that plays a significant role in menstrual cycle health preparing the body for conception and development of pregnancy. 1. Progesterone throughout the cycle: During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month.

Avatar n tn This results in retention of fluid in the breasts, and in the proliferation of the breast glands. If a mammogram were done at this time, the breasts may appear to be denser and contain areas which may mimic the appearance of a breast lump. So, ideally, a mammogram should be done a week after menstruation, when all these breast changes have already resolved.
Avatar f tn Headaches in women, particularly migraines, have been related to changes in the levels of the female hormone estrogen during a woman's menstrual cycle. Estrogen levels drop immediately before the start of the menstrual flow. Premenstrual migraines regularly occur during or after the time when the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, decrease to their lowest levels.
Avatar f tn One told me to have them tested on the 3rd day OF(within) the mentrual cycle, the other said I should be tested on the 3rd day AFTER the menstrual cycle. Also I saw on the internet that some people tested the first way, some other tested the second way. I am really confused!! I googled for follicular phase, it lasts for about 13 days when the mentrual cycle began. So both times are included in this phase, and the lab references are in this phase, too.
Avatar n tn I started taking Clomid on November 6th through the 10th (days 3-7). I then took estrogen pills for five days. I was told to have intercourse every other day from the 13th through the 19th. I took an OPK several times during that period, but I never had an LH surge. Does this mean there is no way I am pregnant? I am now taking progesterone until I can test on the 30th. Also, should we still keep having intercourse in case I ovulate late? I thank you for your response?
570004 tn?1226980196 Over the past several months (since about July – a month or two after I started on levothyroxine) I've noticed that my menstrual cycle is about a week shorter than it used to be. It was about 36 days before, but now it seems to be about 28 days at most - if anything it's getting shorter; not going back to the way it was before. Does anyone know if this is normal / related to hypothyroidism? I am 31 years old. Thank you.
1437126 tn?1284099058 I now shift to homeopathic treatment and to my surprise I was pain free during the menstrual cycle. I searched from the internet and found many websites and blogs saying Endometriosis is cause due to secondary dysmenorrhea. Will endometriosis be cured if secondary dysmenorrhea is the root cause?
216278 tn?1308861082 Its ability to mimic estrogen makes it a valuable female supplement. Short-term, daily use may help stimulate menstrual flow in women suffering from dysmenorrhea. In menstruating women, take during the follicular phase (first half) of your cycle. Do not take this supplement if pregnant or breastfeeding. • Calcium Strengthens bones and teeth, helps prevent muscle cramping. Take with Vitamin D.
Avatar f tn I've been taking both Topamax and Elavil for several years to prevent migraine headaches and I continue to have 4-6 headaches per month; after logging my headaches for years, it has become clear that those 4-6 headaches every month are menstrual migraines and the 2 different prevention meds are doing little if nothing to prevent those headaches.
Avatar f tn s sperm is partly the problem here. If you are aware of your menstrual cycle and try to conceive on or around the day you ovulate then you will have better success. There are products you can buy to show when you are ovulating. The ovulation only lasts around 12 hours , but sperm can last up to 5 days, so if you are regular with your menstrual cycle you can work out the date and try then.
Avatar n tn The most common explanation for bilateral (both sides) breast swelling, lumpiness and tenderness is hormonal fluctuation. This could be due to menstrual cycle or birth control pills, for example. If you are concerned, you should have your doctor check this out.
Avatar m tn m not a doctor and I have no experience with medicine, but from what I have researched online about the hormones that control your menstrual cycle, and from my experience taking birth control, you could be having symptoms of estrogen dominance as withdrawal from taking birth control. It is easy enough from the North American diet for the body to produce more estrogen than it does progesterone. Both of these hormones need to be in your body for you to get your period.
Avatar f tn Hi, i have also experienced what Emily (above) has, but my situation is a little more complicated! Quoted from above: "The consistency and amount are dependent on the physiological hormone changes in the menstrual cycle" and "Nearing Ovulation (increasing estrogen):progressive increase in cervical mucus" Now here is my situation-I am pregnant and about two weeks away from the delivery date, so obviously i havn't been having any periods for awhile now!!!!
Avatar f tn Ovarian cysts can affect the menstrual cycle. That said, in perimenopause estrogen and progesterone levels are irregular and missed menstrual periods are a symptom.
Avatar f tn What is happening is that you are not ovulating. In a normal cycle, every month the ovaries produce first estrogen--this causes the lining of the uterus to grow thicker, then at midcycle ovulation occurs and the cyst that forms where the egg was released produces progesterone. Progesterone causes the lining to stop growing and prepare for pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, then menstruation occurs.
Avatar m tn Her cardiologist now believes her condition, still diagnosed as Tako Tsubo Syndrome, may indeed be linked to hormonal changes, (specifically, lower Estrogen levels), during her menstrual cycle. We requested and received a 30 day Holter monitor so her cardiologist can monitor my Wife's heart rhythm during her period, which should start next week. We also have an appointment with her OB/GYN on Friday to discuss her condition. I will update Friday.
Avatar f tn Menstrual headaches present with migraine-type pain that occurs shortly before, during, or immediately after menstruation or at mid-cycle (at time of ovulation). This is due to irregularities in estrogen levels. Treatment is the same with migraine treatment. Small doses of vasoconstrictors and anti-inflammatory drugs taken before and during menstrual period may prevent headaches. Take care and best regards.
1273473 tn?1270775840 Treatment, and HCV, all had an impact on my menstrual cycle. In my first treatment I did have one or two "heavier" bleeds that seemed to last a little longer than usual, possible due to my blood being thinner whilst on tx. On my 2nd treatment my periods stopped altogether and haven't returned. As the liver is integral in the production of hormones this was not surprising to me. I believe I have had an early menopause due to having and HCV and treating HCV.
Avatar f tn Hormones play a crucial role in regulating your menstrual cycle. Even slight imbalances can cause delays or irregularities. Underlying Health Conditions: Conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can cause irregular periods. Since you're concerned about fertility and menstrual health, you might find pcosferticure.com a useful resource.
Avatar n tn as far as your estrogen levels are concerned, mine were extremely low but my RE wasnt worried and assured me i still have a chance to conceive. ususally it takes about 1 year after you stop your birth control to get pregnant. it may be harder since your peroids are irregular which means you'll ovulate later in each cycle. my guess is since you havent have your peroid in 4 -5 months you can still get pregnant.
Avatar m tn I think you should ask her doctor for more information besides just the word "cysts." There are different kinds, and they probably have different causes. Here are some. Related to the menstrual cycle: Follicular cyst. A follicular cyst begins when the follicle doesn't release its egg at mid-month, but continues to grow. Corpus luteum cyst. When a follicle releases its egg, it begins producing estrogen and progesterone for conception.
Avatar n tn Alesse to control my irregular menstrual cycle and iron for anemia. Since March, my weight loss has stalled, even though I am still counting calories and burning five hundred calories five days a week at the gym. Could the cause of the stall be either of the new meds?
