Avatar f tn Almond milk is better its higher in calcium than regular milk. I can't drink it plain so I put strawberries and bananas in it and make a shake.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your comment. I have never heard of casein. I just thought it was cow's milk overall constipating my daughter. Would you know if I give her protein power in almond milk is that equivalent to protein content found in cow's milk? If you do know of any brands of protein powder that are natural than chemically combined, I will go to an organic store to find out more as well. Thank you.
470885 tn?1326329037 I started mixing formula and cow's milk at 11 months, never asked the dr, just did it on my own...and at 1 year I had Elijah on milk only. If you're breast feeding still *I* don't see a problem with you mixing breast milk and cow's milk to see if he'll take a bottle or sippy that way.
Avatar n tn Do you mean mother's milk, or formula, or cow's milk? If mother's milk and he was before, see his pediatrician. If formula and you are not breast feeding, see his pediatrician. If he is not interested in drinking cow's milk but he will drink breast milk or formula, don't worry. It's too early for him to drink cow's milk anyway. But if you mean he is not eating anything at all, go right now to the doctor with him.
Avatar f tn For a nine year old, this is complicated. Goat's milk is milk, and though it's easier on the human body than cow's milk, it's still milk, so the question is why milk is being discontinued. A lactose intolerant person might very well still be lactose intolerant to goat's milk, for example, but someone who has digestive problems with cow's milk might not with goat's milk. There's also a taste issue.
1339680 tn?1276744901 My baby has been breast fed just for two months.after that we fed him on buffalo milk.but he passes stools frequently, usually whenever he is taking milk.now we are giving him cow's milk, but the situation has not changed much. Also he wakes up at night for feed, usually for 2 or more times.i want him to sleep through the night and also a proper stool passing schedule.
Avatar f tn Here is a Q&A the answer is answered by world renound Dr Sears Q  My baby is ten and a half months old and has been exclusively breastfed since birth. She refuses formula and bottles defiantly. However, she will drink water, but only from a cup. Recently, she has stopped wanting to nurse, except once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I'd like to give her something other than water, especially at bedtime, to help get her through the night.
Avatar f tn You don't need dairy, you can get the nutrients from somewhere else whether that is different foods or supplements.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your response. We are due in to the doctor on Mon for his 1 year checkup and I will ask the dr about doing an evaluation. Are there any good alternatives to pediasure for children with cow's milk allergies. I am going to have him tested to verify his allergy is with cow's milk, but he recently broke out in hives.. which seemed to reappear when reintroducing the milk. This is the primary reason we put weaning on hold after beginning a couple of weeks ago.
Avatar n tn Breast milk is better for babies than cow's milk. There is a nutritional shift in human milk that happens soon if your child is about to turn 1, but it does not mean cow's milk is better for a human baby, it is not.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter was first diagnosed with lactose intolerance about two years ago. She has not eaten any dairy products at all since. We went back to the doctor this past August(we see a gastroenterologist) and told her that my daughter was not able to tolerate any milk at all. She never eats dairy unless it is by accident because she can most certainly tell if she has had milk. One time I bought Wonder bread and my daughter ate some.
Avatar f tn Over the last few years, I have noticed that I get migraine headaches and nausea quite often. This seems to happen when I regularly eat dairy products made from cow's milk. My doctor has not found any instance of tumors, so I am pretty sure that's not the problem. I have started eating more soy-based products, and it seems to help. I have not been diagnosed with any particular allergy just yet. Is it possible Is it possible to develop an adult onset allergy to cow's milk?
Avatar f tn T4 is converted to T3 in the liver (60%), gut (20%) and in peripheral cells (20%). Milk thistle is an excellent to help to detox the liver and probiotics can help with gut issues. Also if you have a fatty liver (either due to alcohol or too much fructose from refined sugar/HFCS) you need to address this as well.
Avatar n tn I agree that he has some lactose intolerance. Ice cream and cow's milk in particular trigger burping and/or asthma itself.
Avatar n tn Hi...does it matter if I drink almond milk instead of cow's milk? How much calcium do I need every day?
Avatar f tn To find out whether your child is having contact dermatitis to milk(eczema)or he is having milk allergy(rashes are present in the mild form of milk allergy),skin tests and food challenge tests have to be done by an allergist.Pls consult him for that. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn There are other ways to get calcium. You might google "diets for people with dairy sensitivity" and see where you get. Also, if it's just cow's milk that does it, you might try goat's milk and goat cheese.
Avatar m tn we switched to almond milk) because every time she consumes milk, she gets severe stomach pain and she feels dizzy. So, we were thinking what we changed in her diet at the time if weight gain. She started consuming excessive amounts of soy: soy milk (for protein), soy yogurt, soy butter, soy based protein bars, soy based cereal, etc. Well, she had been off of soy for a few weeks, and she got down to 93 pounds.
587083 tn?1327120262 With menopause your body stops making estrogen. Eating soy products seems to boost the estrogen a bit, but is that good? I was a regular consumer of soy milk, tofu, edamame and flax seed after menopause. After my diagnosis of breast cancer (estrogen positive) my oncologist recommended I avoid soy products because even the weak phytoestrogens may stimulate cancer cells. Research is not conclusive but better to be safe. As the addage goes, 'all things in moderation.
Avatar m tn Remember that allergies are in the same category as autoimmune disorders. The things we're allergic to are not in fact generally harmful to us, though sometimes we are allergic to things that are harmful, such as cow's milk or toxins in our environment. If this is in fact an allergy problem, you want to try to tamp down or balance the immune system response, if you can do that.
Avatar n tn s milk is the #1 cause of ear infections in kids. Maybe check with your pediatrician about getting milk completely out of her diet for about two months and see if this helps. Did they test for fungal or yeast infections in her ears? Antibiotics won't help that. The foods we eat, if we cannot digest them properly or if we are allergic to them, can cause inflammation and seem to provide "food" for the little organisms to grow. And the ears are a hot spot for problems.
Avatar f tn Does she drink cow's milk as I have heard this can be a cause ..
400358 tn?1320234443 I wouldn't give an 8 month old much water, there is a risk of hypoxia unless you know the maximum amounts that are safe. I would hesitate to give a child water all day at such a young age. My son was breastfeeding and also drinking formula at that age, and I gave it to him any time he asked. Like eternidad, my son's pediatrician also told me no juice, apparently as far as food value goes, it is about like sugar water.
Avatar f tn Are you talking about just plain milk? Or baby formula? Even at 6 months and eating other food, she should still be on formula or mother's milk, not cow's milk.
Avatar n tn Because he seems to be improving in some ways at least, it does seem as though there is a chance of recovery. Are you in a place where you can get a product called "KMR?" (It stands for "kitten milk replacer," and it is made by PetAg, I think.) If this were my kitten, I would give him KMR rather than just glucose water. Or, I'd give him broth (such as, chicken broth) or anything with a milk base, but perhaps not cow's milk.
284738 tn?1283106819 The constipation is from acid blockers causing a poor absorption of nutrients. Get the book, WHY STOMACH ACID IS GOOD FOR YOU. Spitting up is pretty normal for most babies up to 6 months. Also agreed that reflux can be triggered by allergies like in cow's milk formula and soy. A good one if you have to go with formula is neocate or nannycare goat milk formula. Reflux meds do not correct the problem but make it worse. The problem is poor digestion...he needs MORE acid, NOT less!
