Avatar m tn The vitamins and calcium with D3 are a good start. However, in order to absorb the Calcium and other vitamins she needs to make her own estrogen. I take Siberian Eleuthero (Ginseng) and Magnesium glycinate to help me make estrogen and build my bones. I have osteopenia also. For her stomach problems, I think she should be taking acidophilus and enzymes. I stopped taking PPIs and started taking Gluten Cutter from Walmart as it contains over 10 different enzymes.

Avatar f tn So your Moms doctor wants her to have brittle bones on top of her other problems? My mother has been on hormone replacement since she was 38 and she is now 78. I am so glad her Cardiologist And Ob/Gyn talked and decided that poor bone density would have the biggest impact on her quality of live. Your mother GYN is right. Good for him for taking a tough stance. My mothers lives a much richer life because of her strong bones.
Avatar f tn As we age the bones can lose density and become weak and fragile. With a weakened bone, any fall could result in a fracture. Fractures most commonly occur in the spine, wrist and hips, other bones such as the arm or pelvis can also be affected. If you and someone you know has osteoporosis, the doctor will normally prescribe calcium and vitamin D to be taken every day. Calcium builds up the bones and Vitamin D helps the body to absorb the calcium.
Avatar n tn Letrozole is an estrogen blocker per se, prevents the conversion of the body's male hormones to estrogen and therefore slows maturation of the bones,It is used in breast cancer and tends to lower the body's estrogen and may raise testosterone levels, it is sometimes used with growth hormone. however it can also affect the liver and use of it is controversial in regards to its true benefit.
Avatar n tn It seems, for some men who suffer from either aromatise deficiency or estrogen resistance, the bones do not close and continue to grow during adulthood, otherwise, it is not normally expected.
14855819 tn?1444342513 I also feel like I need to keep taking some sort of pill containing estrogen to keep my period symptoms from possibly becoming worse. Basically, I want to know just what could be going on, and what I might be able to do.
Avatar n tn I did not have any blood test for this its not necessary if your ovaries are gone you have no estrogen,.Calcium is good, for bones, I had restless legs and leg cramps right after my hyster but they stopped when i started bioidenticals...a multivitamin is a good idea too.
Avatar n tn Day #2 had mild strange pain in nipple area of affected breast and same in opposite breast. My bones are strong at this point, & Oncologist said if you start with strong bones you will most likely end with strong bones. I was afraid of damage to my heart after 33 RT's so had an Echo Cardiogram done. I found I have Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (upper normal) and Diastolic Dysfunction.
Avatar f tn Arimidex stops this conversion thus inhibiting the estrogen circulating in the body.My Oncologist told me that estrogen can be also found in muscles, bones and skin.Your oncologist is right that even if you remove the ovaries, your body still produces estrogen.Take care..
Avatar n tn It is not unheard of for athletes that do not get their period to have osteoporosis or osteopenia and stress fractures because their bones are not getting the estrogen they need for good bone strength and development. I highly recommend that you see your gynecologist to make sure the only reason that you are not getting your period is that you are underweight and if there is no other reason then that to get on some sort of estrogen replacement or birth control pills.
Avatar n tn I have severe osteoporosis as a result. I am 22 years old. I was put on birth control for the estrogen to help replenish my bones, and return my period. (I do not menstruate without the pill) I have doubts of my being able to actually carry a child in the future, but was considering a surrogate mother. Is there anyway to tell if I'm even producing eggs anymore? Is a surrogate, with my egg and husband's sperm possible?
Avatar f tn The Estrace is a bioidentical estrogen, too, but when placed in the Vagina it will stay in that area and not add to the overall amount of estrogen in your system. I have found it to be very helpful, tho. The directions usually suggest you use it every night for two weeks and then about three times a week after that. You deserve the best and if I were you, I would look into this subject further. You will have to advocate for yourself.
Avatar n tn s health initiative (WHI) study does suggest that ERT may be associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer (note this is estrogen plus progesterone, there is no reported increase with estrogen by itself in WHI study). Plus remember tha there have been no studies looking at estrogen increasing ovarian cancer recurrence in women with a known ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn But I have visual migraines that cause me to. E on a low estrogen kind of birth control, so it was that, pill, arm implant, or iud. I did the pill for a while, but I'm not responsible enough to take it daily at the same time.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Are you very thin? Just asking. But in general, as we lose estrogen during menopause, osteoporosis is more likely to develop. Here's a fact sheet on it. https://www.niams.nih.gov/Health_Info/Bone/Osteoporosis/osteoporosis_ff.asp Just one more pain in the butt thing to think about as we get older. Grrr.
1127040 tn?1289718662 However, when the heart is in distress it can make it seem like pains are eminating from anywhere in the chest, back, shoulders, arms, neck, jaw. All the local areas to the heart. A friend of mine had chest pains for several months and he swore blind it was a pulled chest muscle in the ribs. It wasn't until he had a heart attack/stenting that the pains finally went. His pains only occured during exertion, NEVER at rest.
Avatar f tn I need help asking a doctor to really take a look at my painful bones in my lower legs. They are very painful on light touching -- they feel as if I had banged my shin on something, although I did not and the tenderness has continued for two years. I can barely tolerate anyone handling the tops of my feet (pedicurist, husband). Sometimes my lower legs just ache. My left ankle often swells to a huge size with pitting edema.
492898 tn?1222243598 As you probably already know, Tamoxifen and the aromatase inhibitors work in differerent ways. Tamifxifen blocks the estrogen receptor in the breast, whereas aromatase inhibitors block an enzyme called aromatase and keep if from converting androgen into estrogen. (Postmenopausal women get most of their estrogen from that conversion process, while premenopausal women get most of their estrogen from their ovaries.
6782447 tn?1384747238 Also to bring to your kind notice that a Dr in Singapore after looking at MRI said that there is a nerve pinched between 2 bones in her backbone (below neck) because of which this problem is happening and he recommended a laser operation. We thought of taking 2nd opinion and every single renowned neurologist in India said that there is no need of this laser operation. So we refrained from this operation. Do you think there is any possibility of pinching of nerve causing all this problem.
Avatar n tn Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen naturally produced in your body. You may have had mastectomies and reconstruction but there is always breast tissue left behind as it's impossible to get it all. A lot of women think that if they have their ovaries removed or if they've gone through menopause that they don't have estrogen but it's still there, the adrenals produce it. If you have an estrogen positive cancer, you want to block it.
