Avatar n tn Hi there, Oral contraceptives and birth control pills contain estrogen. There may be an initial increase in hair growth or reduction in hair loss experienced by few women when they start taking birth control pills or estrogen replacement pills. Since you have been taking it continuously estrogen levels will stabilize and the natural hair growth cycle might be restored. Long term use of hormonal contraceptives should be discouraged.

Avatar n tn Testosterone causes hair growth. I wonder if you could safely take that alone for hair growth? However, it could cause some facial hair. That would be something you need to weigh the pros and cons. From what I understand, hair loss is a normal part of menopause. I guess it depends on the degree of your hair loss as to whether you want to do something about it. This is the Ovarian Cancer forum. You might want to find an area of MedHelp that would pertain more to your particular problem.
Avatar n tn Adrenarche is what you are talking about, the adrenal gland kicks in a little earlier than normal giving us some expression of normal but annoying male hormones causing body odor, pubertal hair growth and some advancement of bone maturity, however, obesity itself can advance the bones as well and I would seriously look at the weight to be sure that the weight is controlled well, rapid weight gain and increased insulin production can also stimulate bone maturation and also adrenarche is influenc
Avatar f tn Since you used it for such a short amount of time, it probably only caused the growth of pubic hair and not much else. Did it at least correct the fused labia? Well, I hope that you get some answers from the endocrinologist. Good luck to you and your baby girl.
Avatar f tn I taught it was an old wives tale but I found out that frequent heart burn means you have more estrogen an estrogen is essential to hair growth I have only had it a lot the last month but on my 36wk ultrasound yesterday I saw lots of hair
Avatar m tn birth control pill--in other words, one that contains estrogen. That will help with hair growth. The hair that you have is probably permanent but can be removed with laser or electrolysis. You definitely want to stop it now though! I also think you should call your doctor to be certain that there is no need for hormone testing--I might consider a free testosterone level and a DHEAS Good luck!
Avatar f tn I had a 12 cm cyst on my left ovary removed a couple weeks ago via a laparotomy (major surgery because I waited too long), they also removed my ovary that was ruined by the 'monster'. Trust me, don't wait on this thing too long. I started having pains about 5 months ago and dismissed it initially as an odd period cycle.

Avatar f tn This is very common - up to 10% of all reproductive age women have PCOS. The diagnosis is made from examination to see the extent of excess hair growth, an ultrasound of the ovaries, and blood tests to look at various hormones including testosterone. If you are overweight, which is pretty common with this condition, then weight loss (does not need to be much, often just 5%-10% does the trick) often helps normalize periods.
Avatar f tn I am in the UK and approx 18 months ago my dr prescribed a cream for me called Vaniqa. Its supposed to slow/decrease the rate of hair growth. I tried it for 6 months and did notice that the facial hair slowed down............. but to be honest I discontinued use of the cream. I've suffered Hirsutism for over 20 years and while my normal hair colouring if fair this unwelcome excess body hair is very dark.

Avatar n tn m taking other vitamins, including Biotin, B complex, fish oil, iron, zinc, vitamin D, and magnesium, in hopes of encouraging hair growth, but my hair continues to fall out and it's becoming very concerning. I had my labs checked shortly before starting the DIM supplements and everything came back normal, though my TSH was fairly low (0.74), but my doctor said that the lower that number was, the better, despite the fact that I have thought I might have low thyroid for years.
Avatar n tn Dear Chris, megace is progesterone. For cancer of the uterus, estrogen is the hormone that can stimulate growth of cancer. megace is actually a therapy fro endometrial cancer as it inhibits growth of the endometrial lining. I suspect you are given megace as an appetite stimulant.

Avatar f tn Estrogen controls many cellular processes including growth, differentiation and function of the reproductive system. Estrogen is also responsible for the growth and maintenance of the skeleton and the normal function of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. There really isn't any easy description of these, I suggest asking your physician, he/she will be able to give you a better idea of what these two do in easy, to understand terms. I got the above info from the net.

Avatar f tn The different methods of hair removal are shaving, chemical depilation by using depilatory creams, temporary epilation by plucking, tweezing, waxing and permanent epilation by electrolysis, thermolysis and laser hair removal. But if the hair growth is excessive then hirsutism has to be ruled out. Hirsutism is usually caused by hormonal imbalance and in women PCOS is one of the leading causes of hirsutism and infertility.
Avatar m tn Hi there. Welcome. We do have a PCOS forum just to let you know. They may be able to help you. I, in all honesty, would call your doctor. They can talk to you over the phone or have nurses that do so. They've recently prescribed medication (the cream) that isn't doing what they had hoped. I'd allow them to guide you through what to now do.
Avatar f tn Hi Josee2: I've been having the very same problems. My hair has become so thin that I'm doing the female version of the "male combover"! LOL If I could just get the hair that's growing on my chin to change places with the hair I'm losing from my head....I'd be all set! ;-P As for hair regrowth....well, all of these shampoos and snake oil bottles of **** don't tend to do a lot but drain your wallet.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been diagnosised with this disorder for several years based on my symptoms. (Irregular periods, extra hair growth, over weight) But, I have never had any tests that I am aware of like a blood test. I have a seizure disorder and my seizures seem to follow the cycles of my periods. I am on medication for them but they aren't controlled during these times of the month. I have 2 cycles a month, with one heavier than the other. I also have break through spotting throughout the month.
