Avatar f tn Okay, I was diagnosed with hashimotos and have been also taking Prometrium for over a year. Doing really well on it. I also developed what appears to be a fibrocystic breast (just one) going to get a mammogram just to rule out anything bad, etc. Well, recently, I have lost some weight...suddenly the breast condition got worse, I started spotting day 9 of cycle after stopping period on day 7 and I am having headaches.
Avatar n tn I have been eating healthy, lots of veggies, and limiting my calories to about 1200 per day. I do a weight loss routine on my treadmill for 30 minutes per day burning @200 calories at least 4-5 times per week. I weigh 173 pounds, which is up 3 pounds from when I started. My PCP felt my Prozac, which I take for chronis pain, may be the culprit, but I was weaned off of it about 3 weeks ago.

Avatar m tn When I workout I mainly lift weights so I expect that I should gain weight rather than loose it right? The weight loss has been pretty drastic. A couple of months ago I was about 240ish pounds. Then I dropped down to 225 pounds. At that time I wasnt really eating, as I didnt have an appetite. Then, I was making my self eat. I would eat a lot as well. My weight would go up to about 227 pounds then go right back to 225. I went to the doctor because of this and he tested me for diabetes.

Avatar f tn High levels of estrogen cause unexplained weight gain and feeling fatigued or lethargic. Low thyroid hormone is a consideration since there is family history of thyroid disease but high estrogen is a more likely cause in my opinion. A good article on high estrogen is "High Estrogen Overload Symptoms. Dangers Every Woman Should Be Aware Of" from the Healthy You Naturally website. An excerpt....

This is very frustrating for women who are pear shaped as they may develop cellulite around the hips and thighs. Pear shaped women are known as Gynaeoid shaped women and they often have a weight problem in the lower part of their body.

Avatar f tn She explained the inability to lose weight due to estrogen being decreased, but since we still need the estrogen (that ironically and sadly) our body is not producing as much anymore, the body gets it from our fat storeage, so in essence our body is not letting go of fat as easy, because it is using the estrogen stores in our fat. She also said our body has estrogen receptors everywhere, from our brains to our toes, and metabolism is one area affected from estrogen loss.
Avatar f tn An endocrinologist will definitely be able to help you with this. Excessive weight worsens the symptoms of PCOS. Hence weight loss by whatever means is a must. Weight loss is best achieved by dietary modification in consultation with a dietician and regular exercise. As you are already going to the gym, an appointment with a dietician can be done. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Estrogen deficiency is what occurs from loss of an ovary. And depression is common from premature estrogen deficiency. This study talks about it (copy and paste into your web browswer) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6196781/ Depression is treatable though. Your doctor could visit the idea of hormone replacement. But probably a better idea is treatment for depression that could be short term. An SSRI can be very beneficial at times like this.

1039061 tn?1257878294 So if you indulge in a soy filled meal, and then dont for a few days, the body can see this as estrogen fluctuations. Being a guy, I have no experience with this but have read it quite a few times in different places. One thing that is for sure: All hormones play tug of war with each other, so its best to keep them as balanced as possible. I think the difference is between fermented soy and um-fermented soy. - something for you to goggle.
Avatar n tn It is not unheard of for athletes that do not get their period to have osteoporosis or osteopenia and stress fractures because their bones are not getting the estrogen they need for good bone strength and development. I highly recommend that you see your gynecologist to make sure the only reason that you are not getting your period is that you are underweight and if there is no other reason then that to get on some sort of estrogen replacement or birth control pills.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, hysterectomy can really mess with the endocrine system. And there is a 40% chance of ovarian failure due to the loss of blood flow as well as loss of the feedback loop with the uterus. However, women are seldom told these facts. Your TSH result would seem to indicate hyperthyroidism but not sure about the T4. Is that total T4 or free T4 and what is the lab range shown on your results?
Avatar n tn I had a radical hysterectomy done 9 years ago. Avatar f tn 10 weeks ago I started taking my Westhroid once a day instead of dividing it into two doses. Could this be the cause of my hair loss? Thank you for any help or opinions. The doctor who prescribed NDT did so at my request. He told me to take it once a day. I don't think that he is knowledgable enough about NDT to address this question. I have taken Naturethroid or Westhroid for years and have always divided my dose in half.
