Avatar n tn This type of treatment is one of the appropriate hormone (anti-estrogen) treatments of estrogen receptive breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
Avatar m tn Hm, very good question and I can see why you question that. https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-5186/estradiol-oral/details. Femoston is the brand name of estradiol. And I don't see it used in that way. For heavy periods, it's not uncommon for girls to be put on birth control. But this one? Weird choice it appears. Some birth control pills use estrogen to decrease period issues and prevent pregnancy. But Femoston seems to be used more for peri menopausal and post menopausal women.
Avatar m tn The researchers surmise that estrogen may have a protective benefit for younger women with HCV. They recommend the use of estrogen replacement therapy for menopausal women. Another interesting discovery appeared in this study. In general, viral loads dropped with age except in the group of post-menopausal women. There was no explanation for this. The second study examined similar issues.
Avatar f tn Will be talking to the hepatologist about treatment plans probably in two weeks. Have an endoscopy scheduled this Tuesday. Thanks for your input ahead of time.
Avatar f tn These menopausal symptoms can also be the result of chemotherapy, ovarian ablation, and hormone therapy. Women can get relief from these symptoms by opting for Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women. It helps in balancing the estrogen and progesterone levels.
1112541 tn?1286311213 Some herbal products (like soy isoflavones, red clover and some Chinese herbs) can act like estrogen in our bodies, and may not be safe for women who need to avoid estrogen. Also, there are some antidepressants that are supposed to be helpful for those of us who can't take the hormones, so that might be another option you could ask your doctor about. Take care!
Avatar n tn Have you considered trying hormones - estrogen and/or testosterone? There are also over-the-counter menopausal supplements such as black cohosh that may help. I personally could not function until I got enough estrogen into my system. I don't think I'd want to be without it. But it's a personal choice to be made after researching the risks and benefits. The ovaries of intact women produce hormones their whole lives for good health.
Avatar f tn t always tell you but anyone who has had breast cancer and sensative to estrogen can not use added estrogen. You may not be affected with this problem but anyone reading this should be aware that there are many women who can no longer use added estrogen because of health issures.
973741 tn?1342342773 Hi specialmom. I used flaxseeds (ground in a coffee grinder) for awhile (years ago) along with estrogen but don't recall the effects. And since I was also on estrogen, it wouldn't be a "fair" assessment anyway. I have read that it helps some women.
Avatar n tn re in the reproductive age group, Tamoxifen is still your primary option for hormonal treatment. For post-menopausal women who have breast cancer, and are estrogen receptor (ER) or progesterone receptor (PR) positive, switching from Tamoxifen to Aromasin would confer an advantage in terms of reducing the risk of cancer recurrence. The most common side effects associated with Tamoxifen are hot flashes, vaginal dryness, nausea and weight gain.
Avatar m tn The treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in men and breast cancer in post-menopausal women is to use a class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors. According to Jaroslav Drsata, a scientist in the Czech Republic, the enzyme-blocking properties of saw palmetto may include aromatase.
Avatar n tn Some post-menopausal women still get hot flashes and night sweats; this can go on for weeks/months/ and less commonly, for years. I personally have never heard of anyone this has happened to, but this is what my doctor has told me. I do not think it is common that it goes on for years--I think more like weeks or months. I was upset when I heard this and sure hope mine go away at or near the 12-month of no period point! Today I had a MAJOR hot flash at the baseball game.
Avatar f tn Either you were too scared because of the side effects of HRT or you experienced no relief from the disruptive menopausal symptoms. Well, like many other exhausted and frustrated menopausal women, you finally have the solution. Amberen is the only clinically proven product on the market today that uses your own hormones to alleviate your menopausal symptoms. It is not a drug, hormone, soy, cohosh, stimulant or herbs. It is not a pharmaceutical product.
Avatar f tn In pre-menopausal women, the ovaries create most of the estrogen, and after primary treatment, taking Tamoxifen will be sufficient to block estrogen from cancer cells. If needed, for young women with estrogen-sensitive breast cancer, ovaries can be temporarily shut down with ovarian suppression injections. For high-risk women, ovaries can be surgically removed (oophorectomy).
Avatar f tn How is your estrogen and your DHEA-S? When your doc tests your testosterone, does he test bio-available testosterone, and does the doc test sex binding hormones, LH, FSH, to get the entire pic of your androgens and how your body is using the testosterone? Estrogen and testosterone and very very closely related - so it could be that your testosterone is simply converting over to estrogen instead of staying as testosterone. This cannot be controlled really - it just happens.
Avatar f tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. Both of these medications have similar FDA approved indications.
Avatar f tn Why would you be given estrogen with elevated estrogen? My reasons for weight gain/difficulty losing weight were severe insulin resistance and untreated hypothyroidism. My hip to waist ratio was 0.96 due to insulin resistance.
Avatar m tn In chronic hepatitis C, the female gender has long been associated with decreased progression to fibrosis,[6, 7] which is slower in pre-menopausal women than in men and post-menopausal women.[8] Most women with hepatitis C cirrhosis are post-menopausal. Women generally have a lower prevalence of additional risk factors for fibrosis – alcohol, smoking and iron overload.
Avatar f tn It is probably hormonal (peri-menopausal or menopausal). I would suggest having your female hormone labs checked. I have the same problem. I had a hyster when I was 36 and my breasts from time to time seem bigger and tender. I still have my ovaries too.
Avatar n tn I totally agree with everything Maggie367 has said in her post above. A LOT of women have postmenopausal bleeding and it turns out to be nothing but, it warrants a check up with your doc to just be on the safe side. A lot of women also continue having "phantom period" symptoms, getting all of the PMS symptoms but, no periods. It's quite common actually. Do make an appointment with your doc.
352007 tn?1372857881 For those who are women and are diagnosed with MS who are premenapausal as well as postmenapausal with hormonal therapy, do you find that prior to your menses that you're symptoms worsen or every other month or does nothing happen at all?
Avatar f tn However, an increasted risk for it is associated with the use of combination estrogen/progestin HRT, so avoiding that medication is probably the main thing you can do to avoid lobular BC. (One study found that women who took that form of HRT for 3 years or more had 4 times the risk for ILC.
Avatar f tn Menopause is often thought of as a time of declining estrogen, but it is actually common for women to experience surges of abnormally high estrogen levels in the menopausal years, as well as earlier in life. This misconception has led many millions of women to engage in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to restore lost” estrogen, hoping to address the above list of conditions. This additional estrogen may only worsen the problem and even set the stage for the development of deadly disease.
Avatar f tn Hi Eileen611,I am 55 years old have had 2 csecs and also am post menopausal. I just had both ovaries removed with the tubes, done on an outpatient scenario. When the doctor went in lapro, he did find that I had 7 tumors that has basically been showing up as one large tumor on the ultrasound, there also was quite a bit of scar tissue from the csecs, but that seemed to be no problem during the surgery.
Avatar n tn s very common for women to go a full year then, the ovaries kick back in again for a bit and another period hits or, one can go back into cycling again for awhile. (I had 3 more periods last year...Feb., July and Dec.). She did, however, do an ultrasound to check the thickness of my uterine lining and said that it was a little thickened but, she wasn't overly concerned as I may have more periods (which I did).
110491 tn?1274481937 Testosterone is made by the ovaries as well as with the help of the adrenal glands. In women without ovaries, all testosterone and estrogen requires the precursor androstenedione; this precursor is synthesized by the adrenal cortex. This is why even post-menopausal women have some estrogen and testosterone. I don't have much of the first one and none of the other.
Avatar f tn Ranges can vary a bit by lab. However, they should not be radically different. Estradiol, estrone, and estriol are forms of estrogen with estradiol and estrone being the primary (and maybe only) systemic forms of estrogen. My lab's ranges show a max non-pregnancy and non-menopausal value of estradiol to be 498 pg/mL and estrone 268 pg/mL. Estradiol can exceed 4300 in the first trimester of pregnancy. And post-menopausal levels are less than 54 and less than 65, respectively.
