Avatar n tn ve suffered from extreme hot flashes to the point where I was on a snowing mountain and had to strip off to a singlet. It happens daily, Is this normal- or a side affect from my period?
Avatar f tn My doc mentioned estrogen too, if my hot flashes were too much but I declined. The hot flashes actually went away for about 6 - 8 months and I thought maybe it was a change of climate and also I did some online reading and found that some women say some foods, like spicy foods might trigger hot flashes so I limited my diet. They're back now though and I'm not sure why except I am back to eating more variety in foods, even spicy foods.

I am on 200 mg nightly; so far I have been waking up and had insomnia; will this get better and go away; I have only taken it for two nights; also how long does it take before one might notice their hot flashes have decrease? My dr. said I might have to go up to 400 mg.

Avatar f tn Thank you for writing back to me. I would give anything to stop these night sweats. They are destroying my sleep, and I can barely function. Could you just tell me the names of the herbs, please. I'm post menopausal, but have been on an estrogen patch for years. The flashes were controlled until this summer. You're right, it was the same time I was diagnosed with the B6 toxicity. I'm also on 100mg of Wellbrutin which I 've heard can also cause sweats.
Avatar f tn 075mcg generic levothyroxine for the past 6 yrs. I am also past menopause but continue to have hot flashes. they subside for a while but about every 3 months or so come back w/ a vengeance. i am taking various menopausal vitamins and supplelments, but those have stopped working and again the flashes are back. i am now beginning to wonder if the hot flashes are related to the thyroid and not menopause. Would taking a brand name rather than a generic drug help?
Avatar f tn I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind. I'm just wondering why this would start after so many years and if anyone else has experienced this.
Avatar n tn 1. Accupuncture 2. Relaxation therapy 3. Regular exercise 4. Reduction in weight/body mass index (If overweight, try to lose 10% of weight. This may also lower risk for BC recurrence in hormone receptor positive BC.) 5, Clonodine (also used for hypertension) 6. Gabapentin ( also used for seizure disorders) 7.
Avatar n tn I think the most common symptom of low estrogen is hot flashes. If you're not having those, you might be OK on the amount of estrogen. Try what the gyn says and if it doesn't work, get your dose tweaked.
378102 tn?1215571666 Finally my hot flashes are almost gone... maybe one a day now down from 1000 a day last September.... I was also told no soy products as I have thyroid problems on top of everything else.. the flashes do stop... now I am having visiting vegas flashes expecting 118 today... yeah.....
Avatar f tn Black cohosh. Used in Europe for more than 40 years, this herb may help moderate hot flashes, mood swings and insomnia, and has proven to be effective in several studies. For relief of menopausal symptoms, especially hot flashes, begin taking 20 mg twice a day for six weeks, then try increasing the dose to 40 mg twice per day if hot flashes do not decrease in severity or intensity.
429647 tn?1249753429 how about asking your doc if the tumor was estrogen positive or not.
Avatar f tn s the case then it could explain your hot flashes and deflating breasts. Did you have hot flashes before you started taking maca? Is there some reason you are not taking estrogen?
Avatar f tn I have been on estrogen replacement since my surgery in 1998. I still have moderate-severe hot flashes and they seem to be getting more intense with age. I switched from oral Premarin which covered me pretty well but I didn't want to be taking pills the rest of my life. Since then I have tried a variety of patches that are really not very effective on a regular basis and very expensive. At my age, what do you recommend. Is Premarin dangerous (risk of DVT).
Avatar f tn I had my hystercomy 12/2006....I have had hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings almost every night before and after my hystercomy. My mother-in-law told me that I did not have a total hystercomy if I am still having night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, and etc..... my question is.....Am I going crazy or is it normal to have those systoms?
Avatar f tn And I do always worry about Breast Cancer links and supplemental hormones including and especially estrogen. There are some otc products that might help you better for hot flashes. This is all just my opinion.
Avatar f tn I had a FULL hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. I was put on HRT. I stopped taking it without doctor knowing about 2 weeks ago because of the horrible headaches. I feel fine without it and definitely don't have the headaches. I'm 42, my sex drive is fine and I have a had a couple of hot flashes but nothing crazy. What happens if I stay off of the HRT?
1219580 tn?1297218139 I am on Crinone - vaginal progesterone 3x day and estrace tabs 3x - 2x oral 1 vag. it's all strange..... we saw heartbeat fri but still very early. I was looking online and it seems being hot or having hot flashes is pretty common. And yes!! Can't wait for things to be "normal"...
973741 tn?1342342773 Yes, I've read that it helps too but don't know anyone who has a real life story to tell me. Hm. You know what is odd? I got sick, have lost some weight. It's also turned chillier here and I am not having hot flashes at night at all. I'm sleeping pretty well. Makes me wonder if they really were hot flashes. And my moods seem better. I haven't had a period in 5 months. Maybe I'm headed toward being more even with the hormones. Lordy, I hope so.
Avatar n tn Some post-menopausal women still get hot flashes and night sweats; this can go on for weeks/months/ and less commonly, for years. I personally have never heard of anyone this has happened to, but this is what my doctor has told me. I do not think it is common that it goes on for years--I think more like weeks or months. I was upset when I heard this and sure hope mine go away at or near the 12-month of no period point! Today I had a MAJOR hot flash at the baseball game.
Avatar n tn 7 months ago I started having hot flashes which have become almost unbearable now. One of the hot flashes lasted in excess of 3 hours and left me completely drained of energy. For the past 5 months I have been on a tablet Angeliq and although the hot flashes are less, they still occur at the most inconvenient times. The doctor recently advised me to add a Premarin tablet (the green one, small dose) to the Angeliq and I now have one or two hot flashes every day.
Avatar f tn If you are a very active and fit person your hot flashes could still be just normal for your hormones. Interactions with other meds may have something to do this it too. What are your last tests results?
Avatar f tn Started having sever hot-flashes so my doctor put me on the Vivelle Dot. It took care of the hot-flashes but caused me to gain 10 pounds in a 6 week period. My doc said the weight gain was from menopause. Well, I took the patch off 2 weeks ago and threw it away, and I have now lost 6 of those pounds and feel much better. I think it was causing depressiont too. I have been on bio-identical hormones for a few years - progesterone cream and DHA cream - and have done fine.
279234 tn?1363105249 Hi, I'm 37 and I've had a whole list of complications when it came to female issues. I had a partial hysterectomy in 2006 due to a prolapsed uterus. In 2008, I develop a hemorrhagic cyst on my left ovary. It grew to the size of a grape fruit and relocated to where my uterus use to be, attached itself to my abdominal wall, bladder, and bowel.
414018 tn?1268611672 Terrific story! Thanks. : ) And thanks for all your hard work. Is your OVCA estrogen-dependent? Have you asked your doctor about taking anti-estrogen medication? I'm on one called Aromasin. It kills up to 95% of the estrogen in your body. I'm hoping it works for OVCA; it's in clinical trials for it now (it's used for breast cancer at the moment.) And hey, at least you're entering menopause as your winter is approaching in Australia. Happy hot flashes!
