Avatar m tn I know there is a connection with HIV and high Triglycerides and such but I am unsure of if it would be the ART or the virus itself that can cause it? Reason I ask is I have had a couple of tests, but made a couple of mistakes since then...my lipid profile showed massive elevations in triglycerides (almost 1000) I drank a lot of soda and smoked so i know those had something to do with it.
Avatar n tn Infection is the most common cause CRP levels fluctuate from day to day, and levels increase with aging, high blood pressure, alcohol use, smoking, low levels of physical activity, chronic fatigue, coffee consumption, having elevated triglycerides, insulin resistance or diabetes, taking estrogen, eating a high protein diet, and suffering sleep disturbances, or depression.
Avatar f tn shtml Transdermal estrogen does not raise HDL and usually does not lower LDL cholesterol as much as oral estrogen, and it does not affect triglycerides, so it may be a better choice in women with elevated triglyceride levels. Avoiding the first pass through the liver also may prevent the increased risk of blood clots and gallbladder problems associated with oral estrogens.
Avatar f tn I am not sure why they say this about me. Oh, and my triglycerides and lipids are always perfect. Any ideas? I am a 56 y/o female with a few pounds to lose but it is extremely difficult when your thyroid is out of whack.
Avatar f tn To answer your question about triglycerides and HDL - There are no lower limits about triglycerides, although a number below 10 can be considered too low. Some reasons would be: malnutrition, a diet way too low in fat, or an overactive thyroid function. For the HDL there is also no upper limits, so I imagined that 109 is fine. The Mayo clinic on their website states - "The evidence so far looks good that increasing HDL cholesterol reduces your risk of dying of heart disease.
1488429 tn?1289222119 A thyroid disorder can be the underlying cause effecting the sense of smell. Also, some medicaions. But you should see your doctor as the condition can be a serious health condition. A smell disorder can be an early sign of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, or multiple sclerosis. It can also accompany or be a sign of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and malnutrition. Hope this helps. Thanks for your question, and if you have any followup questions you are welcome to respond.
317787 tn?1473358451 The weight gain is a symptom of hypothyroidism, as is high cholesterol and triglycerides... You have the range for the triglycerides, but no result. Does she have any other symptoms of being hypo, such as constipation, muscle/joint aches/pains, hair loss, fatigue, facial puffiness, etc? There are tons more... I'm just trying to think of the main ones I had... lol High platelet count can be caused by numerous things, including a lot of exercise, stress, infection, inflammation, etc.
955035 tn?1246539172 Have you ever had a female hormone panel done? This would include estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and free testosterone, among other hormones.
Avatar m tn This year my triglycerides were at 535, I stopped taking a med and they went down to 212 over 3 last 3 months. My last lipid panel showed triglycerides 212, Cholesterol 191, LDL 122 and HDL 26. Results in 2020 were roughly the same numbers. I don’t really go to a General Practitioner unless it’s an emergency, do I need to see one regarding the slightly elevated triglycerides and the really low HDL? Would rather not go if not necessary. These numbers were fasting from Midnight on.
6916000 tn?1386095142 When I consulted two different gynocologists, one told me to take progesterone pills whereas other told me to take ovrall (hormonal contraceptives that contain both estrogen and progesterone. What do I do? Is there a third option like an antibiotic or something? Btw, the polycysts were only on my right ovary and all of them were smaller than 8cm. These caused me irregular and very heavy periods. Ive theard that PCOS generally causes only light periods so why am I having heavy ones?

Avatar m tn Total cholesterol is made up of HDL and LDL cholesterol but also factors in VLDL and triglycerides. You can not get your total cholesterol number without all of this factored in. Perhaps your VLDL (very low density lipids) or triglycerides are out of whack and higher than they should be. Do you know what these numbers are as well on your report? This article is excellent at explaining it all. https://my.clevelandclinic.
Avatar f tn My HRT is Progesterone Drops, Estrogen Drops, and DHEA pills. I was put on this because all of my hormone levels are very low, but they are not going back up even though I have been on the HRT for about 7 months now. My testosterone actually keeps dropping. All of my doctors are stumped. My Endocrinologist doesn't know what to do either.
Avatar n tn My testosterone level and triglycerides level are high. The doctor ordered glucose tolerance test and sure enough the results came back that I have insulin resistance. The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea.
Avatar n tn total cholesterol = 487, and triglycerides were over 2000, about 10 years ago. I have a genetic condition that causes this. So, in spite of the risk of combining statins and fenofibrates, my GP placed me on both medicines, after consulting with his cardio doc friend. I can't remember how long I was on these medications, but I know that I had to stop statins in general, because my body just will not tolerate them. I continued to take Tricor for quite some time.
Avatar n tn After 25 years of trying to correct hyper-cholesterol and triglycerides, I find triglycerides tricky. Triglyceride levels can quickly change depending on diet and exercise levels; certainly a high-sugar/low exercise regimen will raise them substantially. Also, any drug that slows the heart rate will have an effect on one's metabolism. Beta Blockers, Ace Inhibitors and Calcium blockers all can lower the heart rate, and I wonder if it could raise triglycerides?
Avatar n tn My doctor says my liver enzymes were always kind of high, even before being diagnosed with sarcoid. Now my doc wants me on synthroid for this and my triglycerides went up to 240? Is the sarcoid still in my body, perhaps in my liver, causing the high enzymes, low thyroid, etc... Thank you.
Avatar n tn It is from high triglycerides. I am on trycor. My question is ....my 6 year old has mono. And the last couple of days my side has been hurting, throat and I have swollen gland in my neck.
Avatar f tn My 16yo dd, recently had some blood work. TSH 3.2 (.45-4.5), T4 12.7 (4.5-12) and T3 uptake 17 (23-35). Incidentally she has been on Yaz for 4 years for excess androgens. Recently, her cholesterol(280) and triglycerides(244) have gone thru he roof. She doesn't drink or smoke, is not over weight and rarely drinks a soda. She has been complaining of being dizzy and has lost a ton of hair. My mother has hashimotos hypothyroid. Does this sound thyroid related?
