Avatar f tn My doctor specifically wanted me on the patch and then the gel because of elevated liver enzymes. It was so long ago that I can't remember exactly how he explained it. Bottom line was, it was easier on the liver. http://www.project-aware.org/Managing/Hrt/estrogen.shtml Transdermal estrogen does not raise HDL and usually does not lower LDL cholesterol as much as oral estrogen, and it does not affect triglycerides, so it may be a better choice in women with elevated triglyceride levels.
Avatar n tn I was told that as long as they were not compromising the function of my liver to not worry about them and to have another ultrasound in 3 months. I'm not someone who just sits around and waits for something to get worse before doing something. I'd like to find out what caused them so I may possibly modify it before more damage occurs. Anyone else have some insight? I have had two children?? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
427265 tn?1444076436 I believe the interferon definitely affects hormone production although I don't know the actual mechanics of it. Irregular periods, heavy flow, and early menopause are all associated with HCV. I was using a natural progesterone lozenge prior to tx but had to discontinue it as progesterone was on the list of contraindicated medications... Here a few things I found on the topic: "The relationship between the liver and hormones is an interesting one.
Avatar f tn Yes- its because we lose our Estogen - which protects the liver and balances our hormones and metabolism. I am going to Sono Bello to get work done- doctor approved because I've gained like 10 lbs a year since I went into menopause. So I'm considered Obese and now I also have high Cholesterol, aargh ! I was completely active all my life then a few car accidents and menopause, routine Life Ins. exam liver enzymes are high- and find out i have Hep C from blood transfusion 23 years ago.
Avatar f tn I am currently starting estrogen/progest/test therapy,,lozenges and cream so as not to be absorbed by liver. There is a slight passing through the liver, but a very small percentage compared to pills. I have not consulted an endocrinolgist as I am having my levels tested in 6 weeks again. I suspect that the hormones will balance out as time goes on and off treatment which is what I am hoping for. Thanks for your response.
Avatar n tn He developed an appendicitis last week and had to have an appendectomy and while they were in surgery they did a liver biopsy, it shows scar tissue and some abnormal cell changes that the Liver Specialist said it looks like drug toxicity from the Levo since that is the only medication he is on. He never takes any OTC pain relievers or any other meds or supplements.
Avatar f tn I have been on most that you have named, carbo/taxol, doxil, gemzar, topotecan, and now avastin/abraxane. I was dx with mets to the liver and all of these drugs have helped at least a little bit. They just don't work long enough, and when one stops working, it is time to move on to something else. I think that the best thing for you to do is to ask your Dr what he thinks would be a good course of action for you.
Avatar m tn m a 35 yr old male who has recently been diagnosed with a liver hemangioma (1.4x1.7 cm). Since liver hemangioma and melatonin seems to have some relationship I'm wondering if it is safe for me to use melatonin to aid my sleep? Thank you very much for your advice.
Avatar f tn s and have been told that they are caused by vaginal atrophy post menopause. I also was diagnosed with a liver disorder several years ago and everything I read says that Estrogen of any kind is contraindicated. My Urogyn seems to think a very low dose vaginal estrogen would be appropriate but it worries me. Help, I can't take any more utis!
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken over-the-counter estrogen? Did you find that it worked just as good as the prescription estrogen, better or worse? Thanks.
1743133 tn?1311182382 Endometriosis, ovarian cysts, first-trimester pregnancy, benign breast disease, and kidney and liver disease are just some of the noncancerous conditions, including some medications that can raise your CA 27.29 level. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best.
Avatar f tn I just last month, after 3 years of misery and laporscopic surgeries, and a colonoscopy got the right doctor. I am on the depo provera shot and that has made a world of difference. At my time of menstration, I would have debilitating cramping and severe diarrhea. I often would have loss of bowel control with no warning. I went to a specialist at a women's hopsital in P'burgh and thank GOD I did. I will end up with a complete hystorectomy at some point but not yet.
Avatar m tn Ovariectomy and estrogen supplementation were used to evaluate the effect of estrogen on HBV titers in transgenic mice with replicating HBV in hepatocytes. The effect of estrogen signaling on transcription of HBV genes, and the mechanisms of regulation, were studied in HepG2 cells. RESULTS: HBV titers increased in female mice after ovariectomy and decreased in male mice supplemented with estrogen. Hepatic expression of estrogen receptor (ER)? was increased by estrogen exposure.
Avatar m tn As I understand it, when one injects testosterone (lets say Testosterone Enanthate) the body converts (with an enzyme) the excess testosterone into estrogen. The pituitary gland also senses this huge influx of testosterone and sends a message to the testes in the form of Oestrogen to shut down the bodies natural production of testosterone.
Avatar n tn I got a prescription for it and have been on it for almost a year. It cuts the estrogen production in the body, so that if your cancer is estrogen receptive, it's less likely that it will recur. I'm hoping for the best, because the side effects are kinda tough. So, yep, you bettcha I'm on it!
Avatar n tn If you are a female over 40 years, then menopause can be a cause. Low estrogen and low thyroid function is often the cause. Liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia can make a person appear drunk. Poor sleep pattern and sleep problems like sleep apnea too can cause brain fog. Sleep studies by sleep specialists can help diagnose this. Low Vit D or Vit B12 too could be the cause.
1638247 tn?1300467050 As I said, the bloating will go down as soon as you are taking enough progesterone to balance the estrogen. Our bodies can make estrogen and we get it from food since it is artificially added! It's crazy! Write back and let me know what you think. There are some products you can take to counteract estrogen dominance. Also you need lots of vitamin D and a good B product. I get Bs from NeuroBiologix in a skin cream form. No oral Bs. They don't seem to work for me.
Avatar m tn Hair loss due to alcohol consumption is mainly due to the fact that alcohol affects the levels of estrogen and zinc in the body, which subsequently affect hair growth. Excessive drinking RAISES the level of estrogen, high levels of estrogen result in hair loss. Excessive drinking REDUCES zinc levels in the body. Zinc is essential for healthy hair growth. In addition, constant consumption of alcohol can also induce a lower level of vitamins B and C in your body.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info but I need pure Progesterone, no estrogen as its the main problem in trying to fix. I guess I need to go abroad to get the meds i need and yes no cream sadly.
Avatar m tn As per your lab results, free testosterone level is on the low side and the estradiol level is on the high side, upsetting the ratio of estrogen to testosterone. Also the SGPT level is on the higher side, indicating a remote possibilioty for a fatty liver. Are you alchoholic or have been using any drugs? and what is your body mass index? You need to consult a good physician and get an overall health check up done, especially with regard to your liver health.
Avatar f tn ve heard people have liver transplants from NAFLD and the fat causes scarring and damage and inflammation.
Avatar f tn ve been searching the net trying to find information on estrodial production and the liver. I am ER+PR-. On a different forum I was told that alchohol consumtion (any kind) increases the estrodial produced by the liver. I can't find anything that suggests that. I also have read where red wine is good for ovarian cancer. I am so confused. Is there anywhere on the net that I could get more information on this subject. Thank you....
Avatar f tn Everything I have read seems to indicate that estrogen and also estrogen replacement therapy slow down the progression of fibrosis. I copied and pasted a few links here but just Google Hepatitis C liver fibrosis estrogen replacement and all sorts of sites will come up for one to read. "Our results support experimental data and have important clinical implications for the management of postmenopausal women.
Avatar f tn Has your doctor ever checked your blood level of estrogen or estradiol? Some women do better on the estrogen patch or one of the gels. And some find that they need some testosterone to function. I also use estradiol tablets but I insert mine vaginally and it seems to absorb better that way. I only need to do it 3x a week at this point.
Avatar f tn In turn the technician who completely violated his duties went on to tell me the results and that in fact I did NOT have gallstones but a swollen liver and that I should go to the doctor immediately. Mind you this was on a Saturday. I was frantic, afraid and uneasy. When I got to my doctor on Monday he told me it was just fatty liver. The actual Recommendations from the ultrasound said, "Fatty liver with prominent portal triad markings...
