407961 tn?1202013647 I would be interested to hear what your doctors say...my stroke was caused by birth control pills(bcp) as well. I take Plavix and was wondering if it is safe to take during pregnancy. It is important for you to maintain your blood thinners b/c if your stroke was caused by the estrogen in the BCP's, your blood needs to be thin so the estrogen from the pregnancy won't cause more blood clots....my Dr.
233616 tn?1312787196 estrogen liver fibrosis ....and get 684,000 hits. Apparently the benefit to protecting the liver is well documented and the research has been around for a while. Yet my liver doctor didn't mention it, or suggest I go back on it.....but I did it through my endocrinologist as soon as I found out. I'm wondering how many ladies in here are aware of this, have any doctors told you??? or whether any men have considered a small dose to help slow the progression of this disease?
Avatar n tn She is home and independent with good recovery from the stroke. She lives alone. Prior to stroke she was on estrogen for several decades. She is 85 years old. Is this from lingering neurological complications? Will this improve with time? Should she have a urinalysis on a regular basis when no pain is involved? THANK YOU!
Avatar f tn Just to add to what Lauren said regarding tamoxifen vs. other AI's, they do work differently in the body. Tamoxifen works by blocking the body's use of estrogen, whereas AI's reduce the amount of estrogen present in the body. In studies of breast cancer patients, AI's have proven to work better than tamoxifen in preventing recurrence, and there are far fewer serious side effects with AI's than with tamoxifen, too. Tamoxifen can cause blood clots, and stroke..
Avatar m tn If you have high blood pressure and are taking estrogen based birth control pills, you are at a greater risk for heart attack or stroke...again unrelated to having a gall bladder or not having a gall bladder.
Avatar f tn •Use of estrogen alone and estrogen plus a progestogen is associated with a lower incidence of hip and vertebral fractures. •For osteoporotic women older than 60 years, tibolone is associated with significantly lower rates of vertebral and nonvertebral fractures. •Treatment with the selective estrogen receptor modulator raloxifene is associated with increased bone mineral density and lower rates of vertebral, but not hip, fractures.
280418 tn?1306325910 Also, a woman with migraine has a 4 fold increased risk of developing stroke, and this risk increases 7 fold if that woman uses a low dose estrogen containing birth control method. This is why females with migraines should not use any estrogen containing birth control methods. They should only be resorting to the progesterone containing methods like depot Provera injections that you had used.
Avatar m tn I had mild stroke after 1st surgery left side affected, 2nd surgery 2 weeks ago to remove battery and electrode, in order to be able to do a 2nd MRI. If the numbness is due to stroke how long would symptoms last? and advice would be appeciated. I have gotten overall worse miserable.
Avatar n tn ve had 24/7 migraines following a stroke at age 56. I took no estrogen the first year. Then I went on an estrogen patch, then another one with a higher dose, and then another still higher dose and no difference with the migraines which were gradually becoming better from other treatments. So the estrogen may not be the cause. But if I'm even a few hours late with changing the patch, my migraines become severe. Any change in the hormones can trigger migraines.
Avatar m tn Hi Guys, i'm basically 32, morbidly Obese, Height 5'7''/67inches, Weight 245 Pounds/110KG, Finally I went to see a renowned Endocrinologist of my City, he suggested me to do couple of blood tests, results are as below: ➢ Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) Test for Diabetes (Blood glucose) – 6.3 nmol/L = eAG of 134 ➢ 2-Hour Insulin Glucose Challenge Test Results: CPS-2HOURS (Cohas) = 5.06nmol/L Insulin (2HOURS) = >2089 pmol/L ➢ Insulin1 – 370 pmol/L ➢ CPS = 2.
Avatar f tn However, age-appropriate screening for risk factors for stroke and heart disease (for example, cholesterol levels, blood sugar) is important regardless of use of imitrex. Cholesterol levels should be checked regularly and treated if present, and if you have diabetes, strict control of it will minimize your risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, cessation of smoking if you smoke will reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke.
Avatar n tn The thing is that i have cancer risk and also stroke risk on my mother´s side of the family. So, they prescribed aromataze as estrogen inhibitor, but this does not lower the risk of trombosis or osteoporosis (I already have osteopenia). I am just trying to weigh the cost-benefit of the treatment, since psychologically i really hate taking drugs of any kind...If i knew for sure that my risk does not increase significantly if i don´t take 5 years of this drug, i wouldn´t take it.
Avatar f tn and if i do go do i goto a normal clinic or since these symptoms are pretty bad since there have been people who died from this patch due to stroke and blood clots do i just need to goto the er?? I thought about going to the er but since the symptoms have slowed, some gone others not, what should i do??
Avatar f tn My head gets light and my hands get tingly and numb. My speech last night was very slow and at times slurred. It took about 30 min and it all went away. My pulse stays regular, if i close my eyes and raise my hands as you would in a stroke test, theyre fine. I called my dr after the first 2 times and he told me to continue the progestrone and to keep an eye on it. Anyone have an idea on what could be causing it? Its scaring me! Thanks so much.
3917844 tn?1348593639 Three years ago I suffered a stroke. Due to my stroke I was told that birth control or extra estrogen could promote another stroke so I elected to have my fallopian tubes removed as to not have to worry about birth control. I didn't notice any significant change, just a couple of added lbs but that was it. This however has had a significant impact on me and I'm trying to understand why. Am I being ridiculous or overly emotional?
Avatar f tn Sorry for all your troubles! I sure can relate to the problems caused by hysterectomy! Mine was 8 years ago and I still mourn the losses. Are you saying you have tried all HRT's? My gynecologist (my ex-gyn since my surgery) prescribed the highest dose Vivelle-Dot patch and it was a dismal failure. The only benefit was a well lubricated vagina yet I still had absolutely no desire for sex (still don't though).
Avatar f tn i cant have estrogen either fruits and vegetables i can have. the stroke i had was from a clot. it was a right hemisphere cerebellar wedge infarction or something like that.
405855 tn?1217100767 What is the correlation of estrogen and follicles? What should the estrogen number be before ovulation. Can this number be affected if you are taking Femara. On CD11, I had 5 follis - 20, 15, 18, 17, 16, 12 but my estrogen was only 23, is it possible? My lining was so think 4 mm only.
Avatar f tn I remember that prior to starting treatment in Sept 09, I read somewhere that being post menopause would be a negative strike against me but I still opted to NOT take estrogen. I have been in surgical menopause since 1996, I took estrogen for 10 years and then quit because of the increased chance of breast cancer after taking estrogen so many years. I finished treatment (without taking estrogen since 2006) and I achieved SVR.
Avatar m tn I went through a serious bout of stress from my job a couple of years ago and ended up leaving. My hair thinned, I started getting fat round my waste and on my chest giving me the dreaded man boobs look. The stress and lack of sleep got so bad at times that I often forgot what day it was and could not sleep or stop my hands from shaking. Now the problem remains and I can't get rid of it. My DHEA is fine and so is my testosterone.
Avatar m tn three months ago I had Pnemonia and even with using bi -est, I am having hot flashes and night sweats which has never happened to me on a constant basis. My husband thinks the pnemunia/fever rearranged my hormones and it will take awhile for them to settle down. I am 57 and was pretty stable on the bi-est. has this ever happened to anyone else?? Thx!
Avatar m tn Elevated estrogen levels really do cause men to look and somewhat act more like women and less like men. High estrogen levels in men can double the risk of stroke and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. Some research has also linked high estrogen levels to enlargement of the prostate and Prostate Cancer. When the rise in estrogen levels is accompanied by a decline in testosterone levels which is typically the case these risks are even greater.
429647 tn?1249753429 my ttumor was tested and it was estrogen positive i am on an estrogen blocker.. how about asking your doc if the tumor was estrogen positive or not.
