Avatar n tn How does high prolactin affect the skin and hair? my skin got saggy, puffy and pale. I am on cabergoline now and wonder if it will help it. Could it have been a decrease in estrogen? My hair seems thinner and "off" Can prolactin also affect allergies? my skin is also blotchy now and my allergies seem crazy.
Avatar f tn the prolactin level is not soley the test to monitor your ovulation. Did you have other tests - like a thyroid lab test and the FSH levels? w/ estrogen - testosterone and progesterone? If you are not menstrating - for sure those levels need to be done.
15522385 tn?1441143430 Has anyone else suffered from high Prolactin and if so, did your estrogen levels return to normal with treatment? Did you begin to ovulate again? Anything I should be aware of through the diagnostic process? My biggest fear is that I will never have children. Something, the only thing, that I have always known I wanted in life. If anyone has undergone treatment for elevated prolactin and then later conceived, I would love to hear your story as well!
Avatar n tn I think i have found that high prolactin usually goes hand in hand with high estrogen, and high estrogen can cause fibroids. I am 30 and facing needing a hysterectomy due to 4 LARGE fibroids which the docs keep telling me, "some people just grow them" without really ever checking any further. I am on a mission of sorts to learn what I can as this response does not sit well with me and i feel there has to be a root cause. HELP!
Avatar n tn , thank gosh)and said my prolactin level was too high. They checked it again later that year and the level was ok for someone who was not preggo. My boobs have never stopped leaking. They leak only enough that you can squeeze a drop of milk out if you are trying to. I was reaading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and it dawned on me that this might be our fertility issue. Apparently if prolactin levels are too high it inhibits estrogen making.
Avatar f tn I was thinking of prolactin, rather than estrogen. Here is from another website: Prolactin is a hormone released by the pituitary gland that stimulates breast development and milk production in women.
Avatar f tn I would see if they tested all the pituitary hormones and not just prolactin as you may be mis-diagnosed. Other hormones and actually meds and illness can cause lactation, but usually with a raise in prolactin. Get copies.
Avatar f tn Other causes could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and uterine abnormalities like fibroid and cervical dysplasia. Your doctor may consider tests like serum HCG, blood sugar levels, thyroid function test, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSA), estrogen, and testosterone.

I just spoke to the clinic and they dont want me to start the nasal spray -as it looks like I havent ovulated - blood test done on CD20 at 9am. I detected an LH surge last Tuesday (19th Feb). Avatar f tn s been 5 days and no period. My total testosterone was 103(normal 8-60) and free was normal at 1.1. My prolactin was 13.3 and reportedly normal. My TSH was normal. My fasting insulin serum was low at less than 2. Please help! Thanks I have some hair I have to pluck on chin. I am under to normal weight. I also he anxiety and am constantly "wired".
Avatar f tn As it stands now, my period was due 02/16 and is still m.i.a. She has done a TSH blood test and prolactin test which I am waiting for the results for. Any further information or advice would be greatly appreciated. She said that if my levels were normal, the next step would be to check for tubal blockage and then possibly do an induction?? I don't know what all that means or what it involves?
Avatar f tn Progesterone 4.5ng/ml and Estrogen (E2) 105.0pg/ml. He was saying that an increase prolactin can lead to non ovulation. I believe its going to be well with me as I really nead a baby now. Pls advice!!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn I have low normal cortisol, very high DHEAS, low estrogen, low normal fT3 and fT4 and my growth hormone is too low. My main symptoms are all the time- anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, muscle weakness and pains, dizziness, weight loss, brain fog, I can't make no sports, because I feel too fatigued after it. I also had very low libido which is better now, since I'm using bio identical estrogen gel.
Avatar f tn However, TRH also prompts the pituitary to release more of the hormone prolactin. Elevations of prolactin can interfere with ovulation by suppressing release of the hormones LH and FSH, which stimulate the ovary. Low levels of thyroid hormone can also interfere with the rate at which your body metabolizes sex hormones, which can cause ovulatory disorders.
Avatar m tn On the hormone front, may be you should do a complete hormone check up including estrogen level, thyroid, and adrenal hormones. Other things to be checked are blood sugar and blood pressure. For your brain related complaints you may consult a neurologist, especially if hormone tests do not provide any clue.It is really unfortunate that doctors simply terminate their diagnosis with out finding a solution to the patient's problems.
Avatar m tn 60 last time it was checked. What other hormones need to be checked? I have elevated testosterone and estrogen, and have just started progesterone. Im just not sure what caused this prolactin secreting tumour. From what Ive read prolactin is usually elevated due to hypothyroid, Im just wondering after all these years of not getting the proper treatment prehaps this is what could have caused it. Iam only 24.
Avatar f tn DO you know if it can have an effect on estrogen and progesterone? And what other hormones need to be looked at? What else it can effect?
Avatar m tn All I have heard about is Aromatase inhibitors, Testosterone therapy and the cure for high prolactin, which I dont have. I am eager to start some course of action , and I think my doctor will prescribe me something at my next appointment, but I want to make sure that it is right. I am guessing he will prescribe aromatase inhibitors. Do you think these will work? Will I really be normal performance wise?

Avatar f tn It is also possible that the lining of your uterus is very thin due to lack of estrogen stimulation and that is the cause of the bleeding. Either way, I would prescribe Prometrium for 10-14 days to slow down the flow of blood and stabilize the uterine lining. I would probably then watch to see if you would begin regular ovulatory cycles, which shouldn't be excessively heavy. If not, cyclic progesterone might be one option for treatment. Good luck!
Avatar f tn (sadly, in women who smoke, lung cancer is the most common cancer and is a big killer) Breast cancer is associated with high estrogen stimulation, obesity, and family history. Mammograms are a wonderful and effective screening test for breast cancer. Depending on family history, mammogram screening should start at age 40. Depression is serious, disabling, and occasionally, life threatening, illness. There is no compelling data to suggest that SSRIs are related to breast cancer. .
Avatar n tn m feeling fine once I get up in the morning and exercise...I have excellent insurance, and think I am prime for rearch and this hospital is #1 for research in NY ,if not the country. What's your opinion?
Avatar m tn Are they treating him for everything thing that is off? If prolactin is off, odds are androgens are off too - testosterone, estrogen - so he may need some help there. Have they tested all the thyroid etc. Frankly a tumor that big is going to press on the pit and suppress a lot of hormones - they should be replacing a lot of things. Are they? There are a couple of meds - bromocriptine and dostinex so one or the other will be used.
Avatar f tn We have received results for his fsh,lh, prolactin and testosterone levels and they are still very high following acupuncture. But they have greatly reduced since two weeks ago. His FSH is now 46 (having gone down from 86). Since acupuncture works on a long term basis we have to wait for probably another month to get a clear result as to whether his FSH has gone down from the original level (i.e. 29).
Avatar f tn When taking birth control pills - for a long period - (Over a year) the body shuts down the other female hormone panels to some degree. You keep pumping in that estrogen with synthetic medicine and than other things start to fail. Estrogen dominance is linked to hypothyroidism and adrenal ( cortisol) issues. The more you take in ( estrogen) the more the thyroid will slow down it's receptors to pump out what you need to stabilize the body.
