Progesterone is needed to oppose oestrogen in men. If this goes on for long enough a man (yes, and a woman) can become oestrogen Dominant (too much oestrogen relative to Testosterone). By lowering stress and thus.. reducing cortisol, my progesterone levels should return to normal levels. If that is the case then why wouldn't it counter the extra oestrogen in my body automatically and remove the effects of oestrogen dominance?

Although all 3 are aromatase inhibitors, exemestane is a steroidal product that binds irreversibly to the estrogen receptor; the other 2 products are both nonsteroidal and are reversible inhibitors.

There is a link between low oestrogen and urinary infections as well for many women and I use oestrogen cream for vaginal prolapse, and for urine infections as well. I think what everyone should be consdiering (and is talked about) is phytoestrogens compared to oestrogen/estrogen that your body makes. Remember that plant phytoestrogens are less that oestrogen so that's why they are important in cancer treatment (for estrogen based cancers) they mimic oestrogen and can bond/prevent cancer that way. My Doctor has diagnosed me with reverse T3 and oestrogen dominence and has put me on progesterone to balance the oestrogen, t3 for my thyroid and Dhea (as I am low in DHEA and Testosterone) as he says it will be used, and if necessary by body will convert what it needs to Testosterone. However I just read an article which states Hashi patients often convert DHEA to Oestrogen which exasperates Oestrogen dominence. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I think i have found that high prolactin usually goes hand in hand with high estrogen, and high estrogen can cause fibroids. I am 30 and facing needing a hysterectomy due to 4 LARGE fibroids which the docs keep telling me, "some people just grow them" without really ever checking any further. I am 51 and going through peri menopause and had my hormone levels checked my Estrogen is 5x the amount it should be . As I understand it, when one injects testosterone (lets say Testosterone Enanthate) the body converts (with an enzyme) the excess testosterone into estrogen. The pituitary gland also senses this huge influx of testosterone and sends a message to the testes in the form of Oestrogen to shut down the bodies natural production of testosterone.

However,at menopause, the ovaries no longer respond to the stimulation from the Fsh and Lh so as to produce oestrogen and progesterone. In that case the inhibitory action they exert is lost so the body continue to produce both Fsh and Lh in high amount and that is responsible for the hot flashes which women in menopause experience .however, the little estrogen you still see are not actually produce by the ovaries but come from pheripheral tissues eg fat and skin .

I think there is said to be a difference between vaginal and oral as far as how much estrogen travels in your system.

My progesterone and DHEA levels were completely out of range and estrogen was at the very bottom of the range. My doc says low DHEA causes cortisol to increase which causes adrenal fatigue. My human growth hormone was also at the very bottom of the range. All this has caused me to have osteoporosis in my 30's (probably earlier, I was just never tested).

I have ben taking thyroxine for 9 years and various HRT for 8 on my GP's advice. Hypothyroid symptoms returned noticeably a few weeks ago and I have now had my thyroxine dose increased to 200mcg. I return to the DR on Friday to discuss the results of blood tests taken last week and am concerned that my use of HRT is not going to be taken into account. Is it right that oestrogen affects thyroxin levels and that the HRT is likely to be causing me problems?

I have had 2 fresh cycles of IVF with one pg that ended in mc at 12 weeks and am ready to get on the ivf bandwagon again. I was told that this is normal in some women and is usually due to high levels of oestrogen (estrogen in US) .. unfortunately I wasn't trying to conceive then though!! I don't think it's anything to worry about ... if it does get heavier though, I would see your doc .. but as long as it's light and brief I'm pretty sure that's what it would be.

to block the production of Estrogen and usually given for a period of 5 years. Truly your surgery was less than your relatives but your cancer is not since you do have positive nodes. Taking two pills a day is a bit creepy, because if you have endo, then taking two pills will give you twice the oestrogen of one pill and feed it MORE. I went from 30 up to 50 and it got worse. because of that :( so be careful.

There may be lots of immature follicles, but none large enough to rupture and fertilize. This accounts for an elevated estrogen level but a low progesterone level in PCOS cycles. My theory can be documented by watching the follicles with transvaginal ultrasound. Good luck!

nerve endings that are over sensitive and therefore register pain constantly.....my cancer was oestrogen positive and therefore no tamoxifen etc. So far all scans are clear..BUT you give me hope to go back and do more investigation. As for taking oestrogen, I did get consult gyn and because I have endometriosis, using just oestrogen is not an option for me, that's why I went back on combined pill. Gyn was not happy as I am a hight risk of dvt etc and has refused to give me a script. I understood the risks when I asked gp for it but I think I will just suck it up and see how I go unless you have any advice on this for me.

Estrogen dominance is more common because while both progesterone and estrogen levels fall during perimenopause, progesterone drops further than estrogen so that the ratio is less in progesterone than estrogen. Two to 3 pads daily is perfectly acceptable and nothing to be concerned about. They consider it "extensive bleeding" when you are soaking through a thick pad an hour or less for more than 24 hours. You're not even close!

I use oestrogen 25 mcg, and progesterone every second month. Now I have had progesterone for 14 days, and have had slight bleeding for three days. I have had no bleeding for over 25 years. Please tell me after afull hysterectomy , does she need oestrogen and progesterone, or one or the other. She was on oestrogen patches with no joy , now on oestrogen tablets and the weight gain and bloating is making her very unhappy , the doctors say the weight gain is nothing to do with the operation..that is the biggest load of codswollop even i have heard.
