Avatar n tn 1 When absorbed, DIM promotes estrogen metabolism to produce healthy and cancer-protective 2-hydroxy estrogens,2 and minimizes the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes,3 thereby reducing cellular inflammation. Activating these pathways encourages remarkable weight loss and hormonal balance and provides many other benefits towards healthy aging.
Avatar f tn Okay, I was diagnosed with hashimotos and have been also taking Prometrium for over a year. Doing really well on it. I also developed what appears to be a fibrocystic breast (just one) going to get a mammogram just to rule out anything bad, etc. Well, recently, I have lost some weight...suddenly the breast condition got worse, I started spotting day 9 of cycle after stopping period on day 7 and I am having headaches.
Avatar f tn As I've mentioned in my previous post, I have the strong feeling that I have a hormone imbalance. For 3 years, I've been overemotional/irritable/nervous, have had light/skipped periods, persistent acne,(I'm 20 and I don't feel like this should be happening), and hot flashes. These problems have gotten progressively worse over the years. The problem is though, that I feel like I have the symptoms of both estrogen dominance and estrogen deficiency.
Avatar f tn Menopause is often thought of as a time of declining estrogen, but it is actually common for women to experience surges of abnormally high estrogen levels in the menopausal years, as well as earlier in life. This misconception has led many millions of women to engage in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to restore lost” estrogen, hoping to address the above list of conditions. This additional estrogen may only worsen the problem and even set the stage for the development of deadly disease.
Avatar f tn ve been reading about as I asked for progesterone and estrogen testing - thyroid was not something I considered. Thanks for any help or insight.
Avatar f tn Excess estrogen can affect levels of Free thyroid hormones, if the ratio of progesterone to estrogen is too low. That results in excess TBG which ties up more of the Total T4 and T3 and reduces Free T4 and Free T3. Since you don't have reliable test results, you can't be sure whether this is an issue or not. Hypo patients are frequently too low in the ranges for Vitamin d, B12 and ferritin.
Avatar f tn I have gained about 8 pounds and I am freaking out! I have been extremely co scoops of my diet and etc. my doctor suggested we lower the dose to the .375 to see if it will help! How long will it be before I see the weight come off?
Avatar m tn Hi flasunshine, Thank you for the Kind note! I wanted to tell you what my GYN told me AFTER my Hysterectomy back in 1991. I'm NOT able to take ANY type of estrogen as I have metabolism problems with my medications and the estrogen didn't do ANYTHiNG for my system at all. We even tried the estrogen patches and I was allergic to the adhesive that was used by that particular pharmaceutical company that made my patches. TERRIBLE itching and breaking out!!
Avatar n tn The things you are describing like strong heart beat, feeling that your metabolism is high, and insomnia are actually all very common in pregnancy. Some women have horrible insomnia in pregnancy... you may be one of those unlucky ones. Bear with it, another 8 - 9 weeks and you will have your baby here. Stay as active as you can and try napping if you can't sleep that much. Have you checked out the pregnancy medical support communities (under the forums here).
640719 tn?1277140030 Definitely. In fact, as we age, FT3 and FT4 levels tend to go down. It's part of the reason older people slow down. I tend to think that demand also goes down. What about menopause? Is that a factor? Changing estrogen levels also affect levels and demand.
698356 tn?1240150727 From its lofty position above the rest of the body it sends signals to the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, ovaries and testes, directing them to produce thyroid hormone, cortisol, estrogen, testosterone, and many more. These hormones have dramatic effects on metabolism, blood pressure, sexuality, reproduction, and other vital body functions.

486919 tn?1280184140 Hello, I'm having problems with my metabolism. I'm a very big man, over 300 lbs, but very active. Most people can't believe how much i weigh when we talk about size, most people think I weigh about 250. I have been dieting for about a year and have lost over 30 lbs.. But in the last 3 or 4 months, my weight has moved up and down. I'm at 329 right now and it has moved as low as 315 to as high as 335. I have not changed my diet and have even tried exercising a little bit more.
1397290 tn?1357777871 Calorie-intake should be according to your physical activity. 2800-3000 is quite a lot, which if you don't gain of it, you should perhaps seek professional aid.
1203175 tn?1265553335 Anyone know how to kick start your metabolism so you start losing pounds, other than weight loss medications? Will not use those.
Avatar f tn I'm 18 , I do a lot of sports .. And I do not eat that much .... Why can't I go under 65kg ?
Avatar f tn If you really want to kick-start your metabolism, you may also try dividing your meals up into smaller portions that you eat more often throughout the day. Every time you eat, it helps your metabolism rise, so as strange as it may sound, eating frequently can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Take care!
Avatar f tn I just remembered how my hair fell out a lot after my first child was born, before I was hypoT. Maybe ANY hormonal imbalance contributes to hair loss? We all know how a limping thyroid throws the entire hormonal (aka endocrine) system out of balance. Perhaps once our thyroid is balanced, we still have to contend with getting all our other hormones balanced. Maybe having our thyroid back up and running isn't enough to repair and balance the rest of our system that got out-of-whack.
703031 tn?1398963307 The doc related it to the antibodies destroying my thyroid and causing hypothyrosis which slowed my metabolism down and raised hormone dose every half year. Five years ago, the ob/gyn suggested the depo shot for birth control due to health problems caused by estrogen in the pill. I was on L-Thyroxin 125µ, weighted 60kg and had not PCOS. From that point, I constantly gained about five kgs a year. Endocrinologist and ob/gyn related it to hypothyrosis.
