Avatar f tn ve been reading about as I asked for progesterone and estrogen testing - thyroid was not something I considered. Thanks for any help or insight.
3046028 tn?1340538562 ve read oestrogen affects the blood cholesterol levels and also regulates the circulation of LDL and HDL. Interesting. According to Dr Sandra Cabot "the risk of cardiovascular disease can be reduced by 50% by taking oestrogen at or soon after the menopause". Phytoestrogens are a natural alternative to hormone replacement therapy. Found naturally in plants, phytoestrogens may help protect against breast cancer, bone loss, hot flashes, and high cholesterol.
1174225 tn?1269628721 Dark chocolate also has fewer calories than other varieties, and when eaten in moderation, it lowers unhealthy LDL cholesterol and prevents plaque from building up in your arteries. Pomegranates Pomegranates have up to three times the antioxidants of red wine and green tea and the juice has been shown to reduce artery-clogging plaque, which in turn prevents heart disease and stroke.
Avatar f tn Your total Cholesterol at 228 is bordeline high - Below 200 is desirable Your LDL at 113 is near ideal - You mentioned that there is a history of heart disease in your family, so your LDL should be below 110, and idealy below 70 if your MD thinks that you are at very high risk of heart disease.
955035 tn?1246539172 Have you ever had a female hormone panel done? This would include estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and free testosterone, among other hormones.
Avatar m tn We eat salmon, skinless boneless chicken breasts, fish, (pork about once every two months now), along with vegetables, rice, and fruit. My triglyerides are 35, LDL 96 and HDL 54 and I am now 44 in age. Diet definitely does reduce Cholesterol. Organic Red rice is suppose to be good for your heart.
Avatar n tn A HDL is identical to a LDL, the only difference is the marker. Both HDL and LDL have fat in them, and HDL could be converted into a LDL by changing its marker. This is the beauty of lipids. Even sex hormones are in proteins and have markers, it's a highly used system. A HDL molecule simply has the right shape/key to chemically lock on to an LDL and chemically alter the marker on the LDL, then they seperate.
Avatar n tn Taking both the HDL and LDL actual numbers and percentile them on the range is good to do. Example would be if your LDL (bad) level is 15% higher than the high point on the reference range you need to look at the HDL (good) cholesterol number and if that is about 15% higher also like LDL you may not have a real concern with cholesterol at all and the abnormal levels are usually due to the abnormal thyroid function at this time.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind what role HDL plays, it binds with the LDL or bad cholesterol and takes it back to the liver to be eliminated or recycled. Your LDL level is very low and near optimal. The less LDL in your system, the less HDL you need. The best way to increase HDL is exercise, but only after you have discussed it with your doctor. To have an effect on HDL, you really need between 30 - 60 mins a day at 75% of your max predicted heart rate (220-age) most days of the week.
1815939 tn?1377991799 Interesting ,however is that patients that do have elevated LDL .have somewhat better response to tx. and it is synonymous with having the preferable CC allele I don't believe I ever read anything that signifies the meaning of the LDL lowering from "being " on tx. though. Will A higher plasma level of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is an independent predictor of SVR to Peg-IFN plus RBV, both in HCV-monoinfected and in HIV/HCV- coinfected patients.
Avatar n tn How do you view a reduction in both LDL and HDL? I have heard that the risk of CAD goes down proportionately with the decrease in LDL. That is, for ever 1% decrease in LDL, the risk of CAD goes down by 1%. I have also heard that for each 1mg (mg rather than %) increase in HDL, the risk of CAD goes down by 2%. Is this correct? Does this formular hold true when the patients LDL and HDL are low to begin with. My LDL went from 80 to 39 and HDL from 50 to 34.
Avatar f tn Hi !! My wife( Age 33yrs ) has a TSH level of 320 and LDL of 172 .She was perfectly normal 1.5 yrs back . I have the following questions. Kindly reply 1) Is she susceptible to Heart Attack? 2) The doctor has prescribed her Thyroup 25mcg, surbex gold and de cal. are the medicines correct ? 3) Does High TSH levels lead to high LDL ? 4) is there any restriction on food for her ? 5) The doctor has not prescribed any medicines for her LDL . does she need medicines for treating LDL ?
Avatar f tn My Blood pressure is normal, My cholestrol was 207 mg/dl, LDL = 160 mg/dl and HDL= 40mg/dl from 2011 to june 2015 with few up and downs but in reports of oct 2015 and march 2016 my cholestrol is increase up to 260 mg/dl, LDL = 198mg/dl, HDL=51mg/dl, triglycerides = 100mg/dl , my other results are Liver function test result are ALT/SPGT = 16U/L, SGOT = 19U/L, alkaline phosphate = 114 U/L , i am vitamin D deficient. march 2016 current level of vitmain D(25-OH) =26ng/ml .
Avatar m tn thanks ps doctor does not seem concered, says lose weight and excersize.
Avatar m tn Your HDL is a little bit low, but again its all about ratio. Your LDL is very low, 2.2mmol/L and for heart diseased people in the UK they recommend 4mmol/L or less. You are well below the limit. You basically have 2.75 LDL lipids to every HDL. This is a great ratio. Even if heart disease runs in your family, I wouldn't go onto medication unless they dramatically increase. If your Doctor recommends it, I would ask why, given your ratio is so good.
5536886 tn?1455827346 Calcium has long been know for lowering LDL as it binds with LDL in the small intestine and prevents it from being absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead it is eliminated so I guess the inverse would also be true that low calcium levels are a risk factor for elevated LDL.
Avatar f tn I started out tired in the fall. Now I have a goiter and suffer from internal shaking (head, arms, legs). Exercise aggravates the problem. I stopped taking birth control pills in March. However, since June I haven't had a menstrual cycle, and my estrogen is high. Can anyone help with these lab results? My endocrinologist has me all over the place--neurologist, sleep study, lab work, ENT--no answers. January: TSH .784 (.350-5.
Avatar f tn When it comes to fat, trans fat is considered by some doctors to be the worst of them all because of its double-barreled impact on your cholesterol levels. Unlike other fats, trans fat — also called trans fatty acids — both raises your "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and lowers your "good" (HDL) cholesterol. A high LDL cholesterol level in combination with a low HDL cholesterol level significantly increases your risk of heart disease.
Avatar f tn Then they come home to children, housework, etc. I think some of that knocks out some of the high HDL and maybe raises the LDL. So, I would not bank on that anymore. I won't say I researched any of my opinion, because I did not. I do remember hearing it either on TV or reading it somewhere. It's been a few years so I really don't remember where. I will say your answers to all are very, very good but I can't agree with you on this one.
Avatar n tn ve had tinnitus continuous for 4 years, and burning skin pain that started on my face and upper arms and now is also on my legs. I have flare ups that last for days, weeks or even longer. They come on suddenly and leave suddenly. This time my legs also felt wobbly, with the left one being worse than the right one. Skin looks normal, no rash or warmth. Cold air makes it feel much worse. I get cold sores occasionally and take valtrex as needed. I'm otherwise very healthy, 47y/o female.
326176 tn?1239515689 Has everyone gone nuts on here lately? Anyway, the same as peanuts, around a handful 3-4 times a week will supplement the body enough. This is about a quarter of a cup full. The added benefits for raising HDL is that it will give greater control over your LDL. HDL are the cleanup tools for excess LDL, everytime they see one doing nothing special, they tap it on the shoulder and say "OI, Get back to the Liver for recycling". So the more HDL per LDL, the better the balance in your body.
Avatar m tn My LDL level is 132 and cholesterol is 210 and HDL is 63. What should I do now to be healthy? This discussion is related to Free Live Web Chat w/ Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist - Noon Today!.
Avatar n tn The only abnormality was the HDL at 33, which is low. However, I am wondering if a LDL of 73 qualifies as low and perhaps as hypobetalipoproteinemia? I have read that in persons without the genetic disorder, this can be indicative of certain cancers. I have been having various GI problems such as bloating, bulky stools that float, strangely shaped stools, and loud abdominal noises. A colonoscopy was normal. Also, a CT scan of the pelvis one year ago revealed a 1.
