Avatar f tn I had a hysterctomy almost 3 years ago at the age of 35 for a borderline serous tumor. My oncologist put me on an estrogen replacement patch and I have been using them ever since. With all the stuff in the news lately about HRT and their new findings, I would love to know your opinion. Are these studies only on women who have gone through natural menopause or do they also include women who were put into surgical menopause at a young age?
Avatar n tn It is often called an “anti-estrogen.” As a treatment for breast cancer, the drug slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that are present in the body. As adjuvant therapy, tamoxifen helps prevent the original breast cancer from returning and also helps prevent the development of new cancers in the other breast. The cost of Tamoxifen varies, depending where you live. The information could be given to you by asking your local Pharmacist.

Avatar f tn Estrogen rises with the growth of your follicles, and the follicle growth is based on how well your body responds to the FSH medication...not estrogen. But either way, since this is an IVF cycle, you will be on estrogen supplements anyway to help thicken the lining and get it ready for implantation. And just FYI, I wouldn't try any natural remedies to alter your hormone levels. Certain herbs, for example, can actually interfere with the medication you will be taking....
Avatar n tn Hi Sandra, Granulosa cell tumors produce estrogen and estrogen levels are a good marker to evaluate for recurrence. I am not aware of any studies showing that estrogen causes these tumors to grow. I have pasted a very nice review from emedicine below. best wishes Background Three major types of ovarian neoplasms are described, with epithelial cell tumors (70%) comprising the largest group of tumors.
Avatar m tn Many HCV patients have low pituitary function, and growth hormone can help with fatigue there, because normal levels will return the body to normal rates of repair. Same with other hormones, but you need tests to determine what you are low on. If you are referencing female hormones, estrogen has been shown to decrease the rate at which fibrosis occurs, and does help females with fatigue as it allows for better rest. For guys, and some women there are risks that may outweigh those benefits.
Avatar n tn Estrogen is the hormone responsible foe epiphyseal closure for both men and women. It seems, for some men who suffer from either aromatise deficiency or estrogen resistance, the bones do not close and continue to grow during adulthood, otherwise, it is not normally expected.
Avatar f tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. Both of these medications have similar FDA approved indications.
Avatar m tn t had a checkup for a year or more, she could go in for one now and mention any issues dealing with estrogen and having no libido, as you describe, during that appointment. Of course, with any sexual activities, you need to entertain a good amount of foreplay with her that might trigger her libido.
492898 tn?1222243598 Laboratory tests are performed after surgery or biopsy to determine if the breast cancer cells are hormone receptor positive. Hormone receptor positive breast cancer is depended on estrogen hormone for multiplication and growth and it is rational to block the hormones on which the tumor cells are feeding. Contrary to many people’s belief; hormonal therapy is a more effective form of breast caner adjuvant therapy compared to chemotherapy.
Avatar f tn She also has me taking 5mg DHEA as well as glutamine for my gut and Rejuvamax to increase my growth hormone which was also low and Dim to lower the bad estrogen. I'm also taking Dim to lower the bad estrogen. She said as low as all my levels were, it will take 3-4 months to start feeling a difference. I just can't believe I saw 5 endos and none of them ever tested my hormones. They need to change their specialty to just diabetes docs and not say they're hormone experts.
Avatar f tn I have asked my oncologist these questions and he just says that taking the AI's is the best proven way to try to stop the recurrence of breast cancer. What I am finding is that the "older" doctors have been doing it this way for 20+ years and are not willing to change. When I asked him to check my hormone levels - he said that was "garbage in garbage out" since hormone levels vary there is no reason to check them.
Avatar n tn My pathology report showed that my ovarian cancer was estrogen receptive/reactive. So why is HRT okay? My local gyno-oncologist and my gyno-oncologist at the Fred Hutchinson Center in Seattle both indicated it was okay. I like being on estrogen, but I am concerned because it seems risky. What is your opinion?
Avatar m tn Low growth hormone should mean more testing - however, insurance in the US (and I assume elsewhere) will not pay on the IGF-1 test as growth hormone pulses so you can take it at different times and it would be different so you have to have several tests to show low and then a stimulation test in order to get medication. I take it myself. GH should also be tested at least once just for source.
Avatar f tn Hello, After hysterectomy, hormone replacement therapy would consist of estrogen alone usually given daily by pill or sometimes weekly or biweekly skin patch. However hormonal replacement therapy should be given for a short time only as long term use may be associated with a small increase in breast cancer. In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and start with hormone replacemenr therapy.
Avatar n tn Hi. ER means "Estrogen Receptor" and PR means "Progesterone Receptor". ER/PR refers to the amount of hormone receptors found on the surface of cancer cells which your breast cancer has. Having a lot of these receptors (or a positive ER/PR) indicates that the cancer is hormone-sensitive and would benefit from treatment which would counteract the effects of estrogen stimulation.
Avatar n tn Even though you have had a hysterectomy, one of the three types of estrogen, Estrone, is still produced by body tissues, especially fat and muscle. The tamoxifen also blocks this type of estrogen from fueling the growth of cancer cells. I think that you should talk with your doctor about your side effects and see what can be done to mitigate them. Evaluate your treatment plan and side effects and whether aromatase inhibitors might be a treatment option.
Avatar f tn As I've mentioned in my previous post, I have the strong feeling that I have a hormone imbalance. For 3 years, I've been overemotional/irritable/nervous, have had light/skipped periods, persistent acne,(I'm 20 and I don't feel like this should be happening), and hot flashes. These problems have gotten progressively worse over the years. The problem is though, that I feel like I have the symptoms of both estrogen dominance and estrogen deficiency.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Oral contraceptives and birth control pills contain estrogen. There may be an initial increase in hair growth or reduction in hair loss experienced by few women when they start taking birth control pills or estrogen replacement pills. Since you have been taking it continuously estrogen levels will stabilize and the natural hair growth cycle might be restored. Long term use of hormonal contraceptives should be discouraged.
Avatar f tn 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 35 I had a hysterectomy for a borderline tumor. Because I had my ovaries removed and am young, my oncologist has me on estrogen only replacement. With all the new information in the news now I don't know what to think. The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it.
Avatar f tn Estrogen controls many cellular processes including growth, differentiation and function of the reproductive system. Estrogen is also responsible for the growth and maintenance of the skeleton and the normal function of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. There really isn't any easy description of these, I suggest asking your physician, he/she will be able to give you a better idea of what these two do in easy, to understand terms. I got the above info from the net.
Avatar f tn I was sure it was something hormone related and would appreciate any input. My doctor thinks my symptoms are from sleep deprivation. I have dealt with depression for 10 years now and know this is more but I don't know what. Stats: 33 yo female 172 lb, 5'4" Mirena IUD Estrogen Total 691 pg/mL (no range given.
