Avatar f tn Estrogen controls many cellular processes including growth, differentiation and function of the reproductive system. Estrogen is also responsible for the growth and maintenance of the skeleton and the normal function of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. There really isn't any easy description of these, I suggest asking your physician, he/she will be able to give you a better idea of what these two do in easy, to understand terms. I got the above info from the net.

1752977 tn?1418221796 Sounds like you may have a high testosterone and/or low estrogen level. This may have also contributed to the miscarriages, but not necessarily. Hope you get an answer soon!
Avatar m tn Both of you are having problems with hair regrowth after treatments, if you are getting very thin and fine hair, then have it cut like what is called and Italian cut with a razor and very short that will give it strength for follicular oxygenation and take Biotin [H] a vitamin for hair regrowth. Please ask your doctors if you can take Biotin, if so then you will see it grow healthy and strong in a few months. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterctomy almost 3 years ago at the age of 35 for a borderline serous tumor. My oncologist put me on an estrogen replacement patch and I have been using them ever since. With all the stuff in the news lately about HRT and their new findings, I would love to know your opinion. Are these studies only on women who have gone through natural menopause or do they also include women who were put into surgical menopause at a young age?
Avatar f tn Estrogen rises with the growth of your follicles, and the follicle growth is based on how well your body responds to the FSH medication...not estrogen. But either way, since this is an IVF cycle, you will be on estrogen supplements anyway to help thicken the lining and get it ready for implantation. And just FYI, I wouldn't try any natural remedies to alter your hormone levels. Certain herbs, for example, can actually interfere with the medication you will be taking....
Avatar m tn High estrogen production thru supplementation or diet rich in phytochemicals producing estrogen are linked with tumor growth. The relation is not clear buy significant with breast cancer I don't see anything bad with taking Effexor with DHEA supplementation but the optimal way to go would be to take choline, alpha GCP, L-Huperzine and vinpocetine with the DHEA. I would let you do the research and let you figure out by yourself why this combination will be useful.
Avatar n tn This is kind of a personal queston but i am desperate! I am still an A Cup and i would like to know how do i get it to grow bigger faster? Should i take estrogen pills or what?? PLEASE HELP!!
429647 tn?1249753429 only to find out that her cancer is estrogen postive and probably caused or in some part aided in the growth of her masses. This is a very touchy subject on this forum, and as much as I love and adore Mary, she and I are on opposite sides on this one. Flashes are horrid, I will agree that I have had a really tough time with them as well as the other symptoms of menopause....but, you know what....I am alive. Gather all the facts you can....best of luck.
Avatar n tn My pathology report showed that my ovarian cancer was estrogen receptive/reactive. So why is HRT okay? My local gyno-oncologist and my gyno-oncologist at the Fred Hutchinson Center in Seattle both indicated it was okay. I like being on estrogen, but I am concerned because it seems risky. What is your opinion?
1268796 tn?1332893451 I had grade C embryos as a result of the long lupron protocol. My RE thinks that it was not a good protocol for me and my Estrogen levels were all over the map. my E2 started high and I was a quick responder with too many follicles, dropped the stims dose but it still went up. they were worried and tweaked the protocol and ended up with a drop in estrogen and had to trigger me right away.
Avatar m tn t had a checkup for a year or more, she could go in for one now and mention any issues dealing with estrogen and having no libido, as you describe, during that appointment. Of course, with any sexual activities, you need to entertain a good amount of foreplay with her that might trigger her libido.
Avatar n tn It seems, for some men who suffer from either aromatise deficiency or estrogen resistance, the bones do not close and continue to grow during adulthood, otherwise, it is not normally expected.
Avatar n tn I would check out that link to make sure there is some hard science to back it up, because cancer does like estrogen and a large load of blood glucose does cause a temporary insulin surge. I would guess unrefined sugar and most carbohydrate foods probably cause a bit less of a glucose load in the bloodstream and therefore less of an insulin surge than refined sugar products, and my guess is that there should be a lot of information out there in the diabetes literature.
Avatar n tn Hi Sandra, Granulosa cell tumors produce estrogen and estrogen levels are a good marker to evaluate for recurrence. I am not aware of any studies showing that estrogen causes these tumors to grow. I have pasted a very nice review from emedicine below. best wishes Background Three major types of ovarian neoplasms are described, with epithelial cell tumors (70%) comprising the largest group of tumors.
Avatar n tn In vitro studies concluded that females with current or past breast cancer should be aware of the risks of potential tumor growth when taking soy products, as they can stimulate the growth of estrogen receptor-positive cells in vitro. The potential for tumor growth was found related only with small concentration of genistein and protective effects were found with larger concentrations of the same phytoestrogen.
189192 tn?1261341628 ve never had problems developing follies in the past, but my dr put me on estrogen to thicken my lining. The estrogen acted like a birthcontrol pill and prevented follie growth so that was when he put me on the follistim. He still has me taking the estrogen and says the follistim will overide the affects of the estrogen pills. After todays u/s, I'm starting to wonder if that is really true. Anybody have an u/s around 4 days after starting follistims?
Avatar n tn Letrozole is an estrogen blocker per se, prevents the conversion of the body's male hormones to estrogen and therefore slows maturation of the bones,It is used in breast cancer and tends to lower the body's estrogen and may raise testosterone levels, it is sometimes used with growth hormone. however it can also affect the liver and use of it is controversial in regards to its true benefit.
Avatar f tn I believe my doc once told me that getting put on birth control can help control that by increasing the amount of estrogen and progesterone in your body. I am unsure though because I am on the pill and still get the occasional hair or two on my neck.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Oral contraceptives and birth control pills contain estrogen. There may be an initial increase in hair growth or reduction in hair loss experienced by few women when they start taking birth control pills or estrogen replacement pills. Since you have been taking it continuously estrogen levels will stabilize and the natural hair growth cycle might be restored. Long term use of hormonal contraceptives should be discouraged.
Avatar n tn In situ or “in its original place” means that the abnormal growth remains inside the lobule and does not spread to surrounding tissues. People diagnosed with LCIS tend to have more than one lobule affected. Treatment of LCIS is focused on risk reduction for development of cancer and usually falls into one of 3 categories; careful observation, medications to decrease estrogen, or some women might opt for surgery to remove the breasts (prophylactic mastectomy).
Avatar n tn Hi. ER means "Estrogen Receptor" and PR means "Progesterone Receptor". ER/PR refers to the amount of hormone receptors found on the surface of cancer cells which your breast cancer has. Having a lot of these receptors (or a positive ER/PR) indicates that the cancer is hormone-sensitive and would benefit from treatment which would counteract the effects of estrogen stimulation.
Avatar f tn but when i did a cycle with follistim/lupron my follie growth stalled compeltely and then my estrogen nosedived. so it was cancelled. they just want to give you a boost i would think.
