Avatar m tn I did read that certain people who carry a specific Gene, found out with special bloodwork done by gynocolgists, are more likely to get ovarian, breast and also colon cancers. I never had the test, but my father died of colon cancer and my mom has breast cancer (DCIS). Increased estrogen also plays a part. Are you in menopause yet? I thought I was. but just got my period after 1 whole year of not having it, so now am wondering if the upsurge in hormones is behind all of this.

Avatar f tn I had stage 4 endo at age 33 and the doctor said I needed a full hysterectomy which removed ovaries, uterus and cervix. The doc said it was so bad that if I don't have the surgery when I menstruate I would cough blood if it moved to my lungs. I had the surgery and have been on the estradial patch for at least 5 years. I am on .1 and .5 patch every 4 days. I am now 40 and just went to a new doc and she was shocked I was on such a high dose.
378425 tn?1305628294 Triple negative, indicates that the cancer cells tested negative for estrogen and progesterone receptors (ER- and PR-), and HER2 (HER2-). Testing negative for all three means the cancer is triple-negative. This type of breast cancer, signifies that these particular breast cancer cells lack both estrogen and progesterone receptors and do not overexpress the HER-2 protein like other breast cancers.
394052 tn?1203100849 My family has a strong history of cancer. Grandmother with breast cancer at 94, mother with colon cancer at age 73, uncle lung cancer, uncle stomach cancer, aunt with colon cancer, great aunt leukemia. These are all on maternal side. Brother now with prostate cancer at age 55 and me with stage 1b clear cell ovarian cancer at age 55 (no sign of disease now). I realize with older people and cancer, the docs have always told me, well they were just old enough.
Avatar n tn Regarding the cancer history, I had one grandmother with lung cancer, one grandmother with cervical cancer and then CLL, one grandfather with colon cancer and then lung cancer, and another grandfather with three different types of colon cancers. None of the grandparents with >2 cancers had faced recurrences or metastases and each cancer occurrence happened decades apart in each person; these were all net new cancer occurrences.
Avatar n tn My pathology report showed that my ovarian cancer was estrogen receptive/reactive. So why is HRT okay? My local gyno-oncologist and my gyno-oncologist at the Fred Hutchinson Center in Seattle both indicated it was okay. I like being on estrogen, but I am concerned because it seems risky. What is your opinion?
587083 tn?1327120262 Also what about the underarm deodorant that contains aluminum, could this cause cancer? My mother is 93 and never had breast cancer but my sister had it last year, was operated went for 6 weeks on radiotherapy and now she is doing just fine. Please give an answer to my question.Thank you.
Avatar m tn t try OTC medications as they can mimic soy in the body, which cancer cells can view as estrogen. It sounds like you have your cancer under control. So, talk to your doctor and see if you can come up with some alternatives that would help you with the side effects. Best wishes to you.
Avatar n tn Hi. Just saw my GYN for my annual exam and pap, and we discussed many things, including my family history. My father had colon cancer before age 50. He's 73, alive and kicking and gets scoped every 18 months or so. He's had polyps here and there but I've never seen him have to go through anything major since the first cancer incidence, thank god! No FAP etc.
Avatar f tn The PRESSURE EXERTED by the blood inside the colon tissue must be less than the pressure exerted by the liquid food inside the colon for water to move into the colon tissue. This is how the colon works, and the odds are your Doctor doesn't know this so he keeps giving her antidiarhea meds. Do you Live near a Super Walmart? Just go to the Vitamin section and find cayenne pepper and papaya enzyme or Bromelain!
Avatar f tn I'm a 22 year old female, overweight, with pcos and endometriosis, but am otherwise healthy. Around 6 months ago I had a bowel movement with some pain. When I wiped it was all blood and a little bit of clotting. The bowl was bright red too. Every BM after that had a little bit of blood for a day or too and then it went away. I haven't thought about it since, but it happened again yesterday.
Avatar f tn WEll I finally went to a colon and rectal dr and he did some lighted scope just looking at rectal area, and he said he saw nothing bad at all, but wants me to have a colonoscopy to figure out why I have red in bowel movements. Sometimes its streaked red and other times its maroonish looking and other times theres like maroonish clots in it. Sometimes well only like once there was a small purplish maroonish) clot on toilet paper, so I am really scared about colon cancer at my age.
Avatar f tn does coughing and wheezing more {as asmatic anyway} have any bearings on colon cancer
429647 tn?1249753429 only to find out that her cancer is estrogen postive and probably caused or in some part aided in the growth of her masses. This is a very touchy subject on this forum, and as much as I love and adore Mary, she and I are on opposite sides on this one. Flashes are horrid, I will agree that I have had a really tough time with them as well as the other symptoms of menopause....but, you know what....I am alive. Gather all the facts you can....best of luck.
Avatar n tn For example if it started in his colon and spread someplace else, this is still considered colon cancer. There are chemo drugs specifically for colon cancer and he should go with those. Everyone is different when it comes to side effects and we don't know until we try it. I hope your dad beats this!!
Avatar n tn The lab report showed the cancer to be estrogen resceptor negative. I did not require any chemotherpy or other treatment. Now I am 55 and having SEVERE menopausal systoms. Are there any hormonal treatment options for me? I am very healthy otherwise.
11548417 tn?1506080564 My sister was diagnosed with colon cancer with small metastasis on liver. The colon cancer is surgically removed and the plan was to remove the liver metastasis also surgically. No further treatment would be necessary. To be sure that no other metastases were overseen, a PET scan was done. Besides the liver metastasis, some activity was seen in the breast area. Biopsy revealed breast cancer with a positive lymph node in the armpit.
Avatar f tn You have symptoms of high estrogen and high estrogen as one of the possible causes of high SHBG. There is a herb called chasteberry (vitex agnus-castus) which helps to balance out estrogen and progesterone.
566073 tn?1219434819 At your age, you are just replacing what your body would naturally give you if you had not had your surgery. You can ask your doctor about testing the tumor for estrogen and progesterone receptors. Theorectically, if your tumor has estrogen receptors, if there are any other tumor cells left, they might be stimulated to grow. But mucinous tumors in general are not stimulated by estrogen. A stage Ia cancer should be cured by a radical hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn sent him for a catscan which we told he had colon blockage and now liver cancer. We are told the liver cancer is in-operatable. They sent him home and told him to us mild laxatives to clear up his blocked colon. He is miserable, has severe cramps, and lots of pain. He is eating ok and going to the bathroom very little. He is going for a second opinion on the liver cancer but I am concerned about his colon, any ideas?
Avatar f tn 2-1/2 years ago I had breast cancer and was prescribed Anastrazole which blocks the estrogen from my body as the tumor was estrogen feeding. All of a sudden and very quickly I have now developed crepey skin on my arms and cleavage. Has anyone else noticed this from taking an estrogen-blocking agent? I am so tempted to stop taking this pill, but I have 2-1/2 more years to go and don't want cancer to recur. I am 69 but I will look like 95 by the time this is over.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on your eight years! I hate to be the one to say this but there is no such thing as "out of the woods" with cancer, I wish there was. What you've done is reduced your risk for another estrogen positive breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But that doesn't mean you won't get a different type of breast cancer in the remaining breast tissue or another part of your body. But you know as well as I do that each year we are NED with cancer is better for our odds.
Avatar f tn There are several kinds of viral hepatitis (for instance Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C) and there is auto-immune hep and alcoholic hep, as well as others. Any of these can cause fibrosis and/or chirrosis in the liver. Do you know what type of hepatitis he has?
Avatar f tn Estring, for example, releases over 90 days an amount equivalent to taking oral estrogen for just 2 days, and Vagifem, aready a very low dose estrogen product, is now available in a 10 mcg dose, as well as the original 20 mcg dose. (Both of these are reported to be preferrable to a similar third product, Estrace.) These products also appear to have a very, very low level of systemic absorption.
Avatar f tn Just to add to what Lauren said regarding tamoxifen vs. other AI's, they do work differently in the body. Tamoxifen works by blocking the body's use of estrogen, whereas AI's reduce the amount of estrogen present in the body. In studies of breast cancer patients, AI's have proven to work better than tamoxifen in preventing recurrence, and there are far fewer serious side effects with AI's than with tamoxifen, too. Tamoxifen can cause blood clots, and stroke..
Avatar f tn Colon cancer can be extremely hereditary! My mother-in-law has 4th stage colon cancer and it was recommended to my husband and his sister to have a colonoscopy at 40 years old. He did and they found 1 small (3mm) sized tumor that was found to be pre-cancerous. His sister's result was clear. So, that's 50% chance right there. I agree with quinroxanne, be very vigilant! Good luck.
