Actually, I read an article that showed that estrogen has a protective effect on the liver. Think about it, men have a faster fibrosis rate than women and usually get cirrhosis sooner, etc. If women go into menopause and don't replace that lost estrogen, then they are at the same risk as men and their fibrosis rate increases.
