Common Questions and Answers about Estradiol estrone estriol

Avatar f tn Estradiol, estrone, and estriol are forms of estrogen with estradiol and estrone being the primary (and maybe only) systemic forms of estrogen. My lab's ranges show a max non-pregnancy and non-menopausal value of estradiol to be 498 pg/mL and estrone 268 pg/mL. Estradiol can exceed 4300 in the first trimester of pregnancy. And post-menopausal levels are less than 54 and less than 65, respectively.
594914 tn?1245263684 estrone, estradiol (the most abundant) and estriol. Overall, estrogen is produced in the ovaries, adrenal glands and fat tissues. More specifically, the estradiol and estrone forms are produced in the ovaries, while estriol is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. In women, estrogen circulates in the bloodstream and binds to estrogen receptors on cells in targeted tissues, affecting not only the breast and uterus, but also the brain, bone, liver, heart and other tissues.
1651832 tn?1301690605 It was used (and probably still is) in Bi-est, which is an estrogen combination of Estradiol and Estriol that you can usually only pick up from a Compounding pharmacy. It was big in Europe (as I recall...) but it was because it was tougher to get it here in the US and the push to use mostly or only Estradiol was not as prevalent at that time. It was also supposed to be the next big thing regarding protection against breast cancer.
Avatar f tn In my situation, one of my hormone doctors kept increasing the level of Progesterone and decreasing the level of Estradiol. I was a bit of a mess for quite awhile on this protcol. It wasn't until I switched to Estradiol only (various forms are available from either a compounder or from an all purpose pharmacy. I currently use the Vivelle dot) and a little bit of Testosterone. You are right about the testosterone.
Avatar f tn That's interesting. I wouldn't think that estrogen (estriol or estradiol) cream would cause most of those symptoms. However, it could affect your menstrual cycle.
Avatar n tn I am thinking of adding a supplement with the arimidex (broccoli seed extract - a natural aromatase inhibitor) and monitoring estradiol/estrone with blood tests after starting the supplement. If there were a negative interaction between the arimidex and the broccoli seed extract, how accurate would the blood test's estrogen results be?
Avatar f tn the cream is fine, but if you are working with someone who likes to mix estradiol with estriol, that should be a big discussion. Estradiol is now the preferred estrogen. Much of the hoopla around Estriol years ago has died down. I did not do well on it when I tried it in Bi-est (two estrogens in bio form... estradiol and estriol).
Avatar f tn Hey, I'm a 60 year old women who is on Armour thyroid, and I am menopasal, I had a estradiol test, I believe it was 30 but should be 90 if I'm remembering right. Should I have a Progesterin test also? I read that Estriol is a good estrogene suppliment to use, I guess its used vaginally is that right? and it says I should use Progesterone along with it, do they have a progesteron that can be used vaginally? or is the cream good?
Avatar n tn There is one theory of thought that it may be estrone that really feeds breast cancer. Estrone is what our fat cells produce after menopause. Estradiol is what our ovaries made in our 20's and 30's. "Screaming to be Heard" by Dr. Elizabeth Vliet is a wonderful resource. I highly recommend it. My gyn./oncologist did tell me not to eat a lot of soy but said black cohosh (I think I spelled that wrong) was okay.
Avatar m tn i started to investigate whether there is something wrong or not.at some point i stumbled upon estradiol and estrogen.i had an estradiol level of 85 and an estrone level of 256 with upper limit of 50 and 155 respectively.my testosterone levels were normal.total t 9.5 and free 24 with upper limits of 12 and 50 respectively.!my platelets were lower than normal but never below 100k.also, red blood cell count were most times higher that normal even though i have anemia(MCV<80).
Avatar n tn some estrogen.. estradiol... until you are about 75 or 80. Your ovaries will also continue to drip some testosterone until you are about age 75. Of course, you won't get much in the way of these hormones but you get some. If your ovaries are going to be removed, and this is where it gets complicated, your body will continue to crave estrogen and will try to make it from a by-product from the fat (mainly stored around our mid section since it is more redily available) in your body.
599170 tn?1300973893 Estradiol is considered one of the better estrogens to use and the current thinking is that the Estrone (which the body makes especially if there is no Estradiol supplementation) is simply not the best for our bodies. My understanding is that the supplemental Estradiol will help keep you well and that if you exercise (aerobics and work with weights) then the fat cells will utilize the Estrogen in the fat cells and will not turn to fat.
Avatar f tn Women who use the Vivelle patch or Climara patch are using estradiol supplementation.... Estrace is also Estradiol and it is a bioidentical form of the estradiol so that it mimics completely the Estradiol that the body used to make in abundance during the reproductive years.
Avatar n tn And, it was honest. I so often feel the same way. I take estradiol (the only estrogen to use in my opinion) and Testosterone. My husband has been trying to get to the root of some problems that have caused a huge lack of desire... we think it is related to Sleep apnea and he will be tested... yeah! But, when I mentioned this to my doctor, he said, "Oh, you don't need the testosterone, then.
Avatar f tn I was on it for years but the doc kept increasing my dose and lowering the estradiol. I was eventually a mess. I have been helped by cutting out the Progesterone and just using testosterone and Estradiol. You can find more information on this from Dr. Vliet and any of her great books. Other problems include vaginal atrophy and dryness, all of which can alter the position of the ureter. I, for one, refuse to stand upside down to finish urinating, but I have had to do that from time to time.
Avatar m tn Low vit D, A1C creeping up, very high good and bad cholesterol, crazy high estradiol and high estrone, (was on oral estradial) low cortisol 7-9am and 10-12pm, high melatonin 3-5 pm and 2:30 to 3:30. I stopped the estradiol, have been taking many supplements for a year since these tests to support adrenals and thyroid support complex, plus prometrium to balance out the high estrogen.
Avatar n tn I have come to strongly believe that our bodies do need estrogen (specifically estradiol, which is what we use, Cherie, by virtue of using the Vivelle, although estradiol can be used in cream form and in a pill, but I am not familiar with the pill form). One local doctor says that our bodies 'Crave' estrogen. Our bodies will make estrogen from the fat in our bodies if the ovaries are not there.. or are not producing enough to meet the demands our body requires.
Avatar f tn Mayfly, It is so hard to say if the patch of Vivelle caused the weight gain. This is such a complicated subject. I am wondering if your body was making Estrogen in the form of Estrone (which is the 'menopause' estrogen that is made as a by-product from the fat in our system... and this fat is what causes the fat around our middle section so that it is readily available for use by the body since women's bodies crave estrogen)...
Avatar n tn I just want to encourage you to do some more research into the different types of estrogens available. More and more physicians who know anything at all about HRT or BHRT (Bioidentical HRT) do not recommend the type of estrogen that is in Birth Control pills for menopausal use.
Avatar m tn Various forms of iodine, including SSKI, can help your body to metabolize estrone (a slightly carcinogenic human estrogen) and 16-alpha-hydroxyestrone (a much more dangerous metabolite of human estrogen) into estriol, an anti-carcinogenic––or at worst, neutral––form of human estrogen. Iodine’s benefits may save you the pain and embarrassment of some sensitive conditions “But what ever happened to the old way iodine was used?” you might wonder. “What about applying it to my skin?
