If less than 60 years old and taking tamoxifen or toremifene, the blood levels of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and estradiol should be in the post-menopausal range. My estradiol (estrogen) blood level is at a negative 20 at the moment, and I take Aromasin only every other day. Please ask your doc about it; swelling of the feet doesn't seem to be a common symptom of it. It's got other side effects that are icky, like sore hands and hot flashes, but so what. I'm alive! I have been on tamoxifen. I was dx in 6/06 .. finished chemo 11/06 .. CA125 began rising in January 07 and crept up 8 to 10 pts a month until July 07 when my MD put me on tamoxifen. My counts returned to acceptable level by 12/31/07, but have been rising again. Up to now, there has not been any disease seen on any scan so the tamoxifen was a good med to try and it worked for me for a good 6 months.

I have not had a period since the first chemo treatment two years ago. I have also just been diagnosed with CAD -- Coronary Artery disease. I am frightened of the side effects of Tamoxifen re strokes and heart attacks. My radiologist said that my cancer was the least aggressive -- small -- lymph node negative -- tumour removed with good margins -- he does not feel I will benefit that much from Tamoxifen -- however my oncologist wants me to take it to prevent reoccurence. I am aware that provera is contraindicated in case of hormone-driven breast cancer, but was wondering whether the fact that I am taking tamoxifen as prevention and the fact that provera is given for four months make any difference? I am also wondering if I will have to choose between what cancer to try and prevent, that of the womb or that of the (other) breast? I am 36 and at the moment do not consider hysterectomy an option. I developed bilateral pulmonary embolisms a few days ago due to a dvt in my thigh which i was unaware of. I am on clexane injections for the next 6 months. Is it safe to continue on the tamoxifen? Is there an alternative to this medication that does not have such serious side effects.

In fact, I have LCIS and Tamoxifen is usually prescribed for that, but my oncologist and I decided it wouldn't be right for me. You would just need to be sure the doctor has all the information needed including the name of your other doctor/s, so they can consult and share your medical history.

It was high grade 3, ER+ PR+ HER2/neu+ I had two lumpectomys, 37 treatments of radiation and began Tamoxifen 2 years ago. I would like to stop the Tamoxifen and give myself one year to try and conceive. It is really my last chance. My oncologist prefer that I wait for five years of remission as well as five years of Tamoxifen. Obviously I do not have the time to wait. I guess my question is based on my history is there anything present that would predict a higher reoccurence rate?
