Avatar m tn Having higher than normal levels of estrogen though are linked to prostate cancer and heart disease. And they are probably going to want to make sure there is nothing like a tumor in your testes. There's also all those other things like enlarged breast tissue, loss of muscle mass and erectile dysfunction that can happen too if estrogen gets too out of control for a dude. None of this is to scare you, but just that you want to follow up on this.
Avatar m tn It is believed that artificially raising the testosterone levels (by taking supplements) can trigger some prostate problems, even prostate cancer. The mechanisms are not clear but for the case of cancer, it is said that suddenly higher testosterone, at levels the orgasnism is not accustomed to, can awaken dormant cancerous cells that otherwise could remain inactive and harmless.
Avatar m tn I took them for about 3 years and have been free of them for about 3 years also. Is this Gynecomastia, cancer or another syndrome and will it disappear soon enough. I have been worried about going to a doctor because i am embarassed to tell my parents. My friends comment on them and I am embarrassed to do anything. Also it feels as though they have a tougher kind of 'ball' inside them which is making them larger and they are tender and hurt if firmly pressed. Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Just keep an eye on it and test every few months. If your prostate has been removed and you still produce psa, it merely means that some of the prostate cells escaped removal and are still producing psa. ASlso your gleason score is quite low so the cancer you HAD was not a viable life threadening type. Congrats on that!
Avatar m tn Just to say again, there is no such disease as prostatitis. All that means is you have an inflamed prostate but doesn't tell you why you have one, and certainly having one doesn't cause gas. It pushes on the bladder, not the digestive system. You also don't get an inflamed prostate by sitting around, you don't sit on your prostate. Most people who have one are older men like me because it's a side effect of living a long life with a lot of testosterone.
Avatar f tn If you go on you tube and enter non invasive procedures for prostate cancer detection or prostaye cancer biopsy needle tracking and you see videos fron universities and prostate research and other different type entries. Any doctor of urology will also tell you it is possible but rarely happens which is not the all together the truth ..I have been researching this and other prostate information for 6 plus years. But enough said ...
Avatar f tn Well, management protocol of prostate cancer is not as well defined as other cancers and largely depends on the stage of the cancer. For localized lesions, gamma knife may be a suitable option with results as good as surgery and better results for maintenance of urinary continence. It would be best to discuss the pros and cons and the expected prognosis in detail with your treating oncologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn He had a biopsy and he had Gleason 7 cancer and atypical cells in another area of the prostate. After his prostate removal surgery, the atypical cells turned out to be Gleason 6, or 3 + 3, which is slow growing cancer. This is what I have learned with our journey and what you need to remember.... 1). This is a highly curable cancer if it is present. And if it is present, you cannot change it but only deal with what is in front of you.
Avatar n tn You could probably think of people with breast cancer who had spouses with prostate cancer as both cancers are pretty common. Since prostate cancer is common, you may also hear of spouses with other cancers – uterine, cervical, etc. There is a good screening method for cervical cancer, talk about it with your doctor. This has reduced the number of cervical cancer cases substantially. This is much better than being scared.
Avatar f tn I am going to schedule to have the Implanon removed. I had considered both of the IUD's and am not comfortable with the idea. I have family history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer so birth control with high estrogen really isn't an option for me either. I will probably end up on birth control pills because my doctor doesn't recommend the mini pill which I loved when I was breastfeeding.
Avatar n tn Towards the end of last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer, gleason 10. My psa was 18.1. I have since had the DiVinci surgery (which I fully recommend) and I am not undergoing radiation. None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn In general it is believed that asymptomatic men (which would mean without any symptoms referable to the prostate, and indirectly probably have a smaller prostate size) would also harbor prostate cancer as they age. About a third of such men would, but majority may remain without symptoms and die of other things such as old age.
Avatar f tn The last six months I started getting my P every month for 3 weeks! My doc first prescribed me an estrogen (Estradiol) pill and told me to take it when my P was longer then 10 days. Well that didn't work. Two months ago he put me on the patch. A new patch every week. It worked the first month and I got no period at all (which is what he told me would happen) now I'm starting to bleed again. I'm so frustrated and I'm worried that it's gonna be another month long period.
Avatar n tn If your dog is neutered, it will stop the levels of testosterone, which could cause prostate swelling and prostate cancer too. It would take a while to max. effect because he'd still have SOME testosterone in his system for a bit. But it would be a quicker option than medication. But it would be a good option only if he's generally in good fitness and condition for his age. The anaesthetic might stress him if he has heart or lung problems, or some other health problem.

Avatar m tn There is a book that came out last year discussing prostate surgery pros and cons...written by a doctor and a patient. very informative...sorry I forgot the title.
Avatar n tn - Prostate cancer. Prostate cancer cells in remaining prostate tissue or in other parts of your body can release PSA. Checking for signs of prostate cancer is the main reason men have PSA tests. - Recurrent benign prostate growth. Some prostate tissue remains even if your entire prostate is removed. This tissue may continue to grow, leading to increased PSA levels. - Inflammation of prostate tissue (prostatitis).
1651832 tn?1301690605 It was used (and probably still is) in Bi-est, which is an estrogen combination of Estradiol and Estriol that you can usually only pick up from a Compounding pharmacy. It was big in Europe (as I recall...) but it was because it was tougher to get it here in the US and the push to use mostly or only Estradiol was not as prevalent at that time. It was also supposed to be the next big thing regarding protection against breast cancer.
Avatar f tn We have been told that it is a T2c tumor (contained within the prostate) advanced and aggressive cancer. Surgery is not an option because "the cancer is too advanced and there is less than a 10% chance of getting all of the cancer". I am confused. Is this stage 2 as they have indicated with T2c, or stage 3, based on their comments? The recommended treatment is hormonal therapy (total androgen blockade) and radiation. Is this the best treatment to start with?

Avatar n tn From what I have learned, your numbers would indicate that your prostate cancer is very treatable and that with good treatments you would have about a 90% chance of cure. I had prostate cancer in 2005 and my numbers were psa of 6 and gleason of 3+3. I checked out all of the differnent types of treatments that are available and chose to have Proton Radiation treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda California.
Avatar n tn Have they done any scans to see if it has spread outside the prostate? As stated, if the cancer is confined to the prostate, it usually grows slowly and can be monitored. Best wishes to you and your family.
Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old and was treated for stage one prostate cancer last year. I had agressive treatment with a combination of external radiation and Brachytherapy. I now on Uromax tablets (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg) which is causing me severe pain when ejaculating. Please advice if there is anything I can as I am still very young.
