Hello, I have had menstrual migraines for over 30 years and as I get closer to menopause, things are getting worse. I had a hysterectomy last July and have been taking.25mg estradiol gel every night and when I first started taking it, it seemed like the headaches were not so bad. Now I am wondering if I should bump it up to .
I thought about testosterone replacement but with estradiol so high I wonder if I could have an aromatase deficiency and increase my testerone would increase my estradiol. I read about aromatase inhibitors which may be the answer. I should say that I'm in my mid 30s, obviously male, and rather overweight.
Could you please tell me how bad or how out of range my estradiol level is?

The surgery did provide pain relief from the painful periods, and constant fibroids, but 9 days after my surgery I started with a major depression that has not gone away. After having my bloodwork taken, my thyroid was hypo active and that was corrected. My estrogen was found to be at 0 which meant I was in menopause and we did not figure that out until at least 6 months after the surgery. The depression has been very bad.

no depression, lots of energy & vigor, libido was up, I was outgoing and excited about life. After feeling great for 1 day, the effects disappeared and I am back to the same drained and low-energy shell of a human. So my Endo increased the dosage to 10mg, and still no change in energy or mood.
It did relieve the hot flashes but I think it has also caused depression and joint pain (knees and feet). UGH! I just took it off and threw it away. NOT WORTH IT.
Those injections put me into INSTANT menopause and I started experiencing for the first time in my life SEVERE anxiety and depression (along with hot flashes, night sweats, etc.) HRT was not effective back then because Lupron blocks estrogen receptors - although my doc put me on Premarin anyway, leading to severe morning sickness on top of it all! I was only able to tolerate 3 of the prescribed 6 injections.
For menopausal reasons and especially at your age, I am glad to see your doctor gave you estradiol and only that (no other estrogens in the mix). As far as the patch goes, use trial and error if you have problems with it sticking. Also, sometimes if you are exercising frequently, you may be metabolizing the estradiol rather quickly, so keep a list of symptoms as they occur so that you can share this info with your doctor in case a dosing change has to be made.
DHEA is a precursor androgen - it does not stay as DHEA but converts to testosterone and estradiol. The low results should also trigger tests of those hormones as well to see if they are ok. As well, your adrenal function should be tested overall as there could be a defect. It could be a matter of replacing the DHEA, or it could be something else.
Sometimes you need very little DHEA anyway. I have no adrenals, no ovaries... and I take 25mg total to replace what my body needs.
How long after a confirmed pregnancy are you suppose to continue taking Estradiol? Just read on the internet that it can cause birth defects and I can't reach my doctor to confirm this.
I had moderate endometriosis (caused heavy painful periods)so I had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, d and c, and another HSG and the following month and any other time it has been tested, it has been in the 5 to 6 range. So even though the drs wont say one way or the other in my situation I think my endo. was making mine high. I havent researched it or anything but I have no other explaination except that. Maybe something to look into.
