Common Questions and Answers about Escitalopram withdrawal symptoms

lexapro

Avatar n tn I took Celexa for a few months then went off. I had horrible withdrawl type symptoms for about 3 weeks. After that I was fine! Hang in there, it will get better.
Avatar n tn When discontinuing an SSRI, such as Lexapro (Escitalopram), there is a possibility of experiencing withdrawal type symptoms if abruptly stopped thus tapering would be appropriate. Symptoms of withdrawal include irritability, dizziness, sensory disturbances, headache, insomnia, confusion, anxiety, and in severe cases seizures. If you follow a tapering schedule and these symptoms still occur, resuming your previous dose with a more gradual taper should be considered.
Avatar f tn I am a 19 year old male. I have suffered panic attacks for 2 years and just a few days ago (Wednesday, Feb. 5 '14) I was put on 10mg Escitalopram. Generic for lexapro. The first day I took it... I had a huge wave of happy emotions. 30 minutes later, I was crying and feeling sad. Then, my body started feeling really cold and really hot at the same Time. About an hour into taking it... I had a horrible panic attack. My hands were tingling and my feet were sweating.
Avatar m tn The transition was really difficult, but the withdrawal symptoms have gone away. Today the psychiatrist said to stop the escitalopram entirely and just take 10mg of Prozac each day. I am hopeful the Prozac will help her feel more energetic and motivated to do things and most importantly get her to stop thinking about suicide.
Avatar f tn I had the same problem with withdrawal symptoms when I had to get off lexapro the last time I was pregnant! It was awful! I felt like my head would shake and had a ringing in my ear. Eventually it wore off but I had to deal with my depression and anxiety all over again.
Avatar f tn Trust me, if there was a miracle pill we'd all be taking it!! Then again we wouldn't be here ;) 20 mgs is generally a low dose. You shouldn't have too many withdrawal symptoms from that if you taper off of it for a week. I'm not sure why your doctor suggested missing a day. Generally when you taper off you go from one dose to a lesser one to even a lower one, etc. If you want to cut it cold turkey and start with the other stuff, I wouldn't necessarily do that.
Avatar n tn I have taken 5 mg Cipralex (Lexapro, Escitalopram) for 6 days but I am stopping because I cannot deal with the side effects. Am I likely to develop any type of withdrawal symptoms after such a short period of time on the medication? I experienced withdrawal symptoms when weaning off Paxil three years ago.
Avatar m tn If you stop suddenly, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as sweating, uncontrollable shaking, anxiety, changes in behaviors, and possible seizures, etc. 2. Metoprolol ER 50mg - for high blood pressure It is important to manage your blood pressure, especially during pregnancy. If you stop taking your blood pressure medications while being hypertensive, you are at risk for strokes. Please do not stop taking metoprolol without consulting your physician.
19894882 tn?1486150524 After discontinuing the pill I (after consulting my doctor) I was having withdrawal symptoms almost immediately. The anxiety symptoms continued for a couple of days, I had insomnia, but when I did sleep I was having nightmares. The symptoms seemed to gradually subside after a few days, then after having one day of feeling myself again i started feeling the lightheadedness again (5 days after stopping pill). Is there anyone else out there with a similar story?
Avatar m tn It was found that SSRIs interfered with the Tamoxifen that she was taking. Both drugs have serious withdrawal symptoms if stopped for any reason, and it can show up within as little as 24 hours from ceasing the medication. I've seen these symptoms in my wife when she was ill and unable to hold food or her meds down. It is not pleasant. Coincidentally, just last week, she decided that she had had enough of the Effexor, and switched back to Paxil.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately my experience with paxil/seroxat/paroxetine was really bad. It took quite a while for withdrawal. The reason i tried it, is that i read that it goes well with lamictal. my pdoc was a fool i suppose, i tried many pdocs at the time, and since i tried lexapro/escitalopram/cipralex and drove me manic after 2 months I switched to paxil to realise that it's stronger. they say the strongest is effexor. I suppose all SSRI aren't suitable for BP.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with depression and social phobia from a psychiatrist.Initially i took escitalopram and olanzapine for one year but then i changed doctor because i didn't like him so much.I noticed that after the first couple of weeks of taking the meds my cognitive abilities dropped down a lot.The new doctor prescribed me prozac and rhisperdal but right now i also have short term memory problems.
Avatar f tn I was on Escitalopram for 6 days. Two days on 10 mg, then 4 days on 5 mg after I experienced bad side effects. The lower dose didn't seem to help my side effects, so my doctor decided to change medication after six days. Because of how poorly I reacted to the Escitalopram , I really didn't want to take something else and I have not since then. It has now been five weeks since I took the last dose of that Escitalopram.
Avatar f tn I was on it a good few years, then put on citalopram with subsequent major weight gain. Then trazodone which gave me palpatations as did escitalopram and had problems with others too, and prozac gave me weight gain too. Been on antidepressants 16 years or more, trying herbal antidepressants but losing my battle as my depression extremely bad just now and my fast pulse and palpatations are returning.
Avatar m tn I been taking Citalopram for several years and intend to keep on taking it however I have recently come across Escitalopram and it is almost half the price here where I live. When googling it, it seems to be part of the same family. Do you think I would be able to easily change from one to the other?
Avatar f tn That way you can distinguish withdrawal symptoms from side effects of starting Lexapro -- sometimes going back on a drug is different than the first time you took it. Since you've only been on Paxil such a short time, this shouldn't be a big problem, just a safety precaution. I got your PM, and this is what I would have said there.
Avatar f tn Just a warning, wellbutrin is a very stimulating antidepressant and can be rough for someone with primary anxiety, though it can be great for someone with primary anxiety. For sexual dysfunction it's usually combined with an ssri for primary anxiety, so I'm glad it's working for the above poster but take care with this drug.
Avatar f tn I became very depressed, and many of my old symptoms of panic and tension returned, as well as new symptoms such as pseudo-insomnia that lasted for weeks. I eventually discussed with my doctor the option of going back on antidepressants. So I started taking 5 mg of escitalopram again, but the side effects were extreme in the first few days: severe restlessness, panic, dark thoughts, and restless legs, especially at night and in the morning. It was unbearable, so I stopped after almost a week.
Avatar n tn If you were taking it regularly and stopped abruptly because of these symptoms, that can cause withdrawal, which can cause all of the things you were feeling. But most important, if this happened, did you go see your psychiatrist and tell him or here about it?
