If anyone has any experience with either of these meds escitalopram and lexapro which would you use?

I doubt it. Escitalopram is the generic of Lexapro. I asked my psychiatrist if the generic works any differently, as every now and then you hear of generics not working quite as well. She said there is virtually no difference in the drugs, except for the fact that one is a brand name and one is a generic. However, I recently went through the same thing as you. I'd been on Lexapro for eight years and did so well on it, and out of the blue it stopped working.

who said that the worst should be over by now (not) and that being an anxious person my original symptoms are back with a vengence he said I should not go back on Clonzapam but take Cipralex ( escitalopram oxalate). This scares me, what do I do. Dr. Mark Lupo your opinion please?

Last month when I flew back home to India for a holiday, my doctor there replenished my medication stock for me. But he gave me a 6 month supply of Escitalopram (Lexapro) instead of Citalopram. Escitalopram is just the S enantiomer of citalopram, and apparently has better anti-anxiety effects. Today I finished my previous stock of Citalopram. Unfortunately, my doctor here near my flat is on holiday, tomorrow is All Souls Day which is a holiday too.

Hi all I'm on day 4 taking cipralex after switching from escitalopram my question to you all is my anxiety is getting worse by the day and having to take a zopiclone to sleep at night will my anxiety slowly fade in time as I take the cipralex daily no other side effects to report just the heightened anxiety any info on this would be great Thanks Jessica

When discontinuing an SSRI, such as Lexapro (Escitalopram), there is a possibility of experiencing withdrawal type symptoms if abruptly stopped thus tapering would be appropriate. Symptoms of withdrawal include irritability, dizziness, sensory disturbances, headache, insomnia, confusion, anxiety, and in severe cases seizures. If you follow a tapering schedule and these symptoms still occur, resuming your previous dose with a more gradual taper should be considered.

Hi all I just found out Im pregnant. About 6 weeks. And I have been on the generic form of lexapro for anxiety and depression. My doctor made me get off of it 2 years ago with my last pregnancy and now i know once I tell him I am pregnant again it'll be the same response from him that I need to get off of my pill. after not getting a significant response on either venlafaxine or mirtazapine separately over the last year and have now commenced escitalopram in addition as this current medication regime with all to max UK doses i.e. 375mg,45mg & 20mg respectively. I've been on the escitalopram now for 5 weeks and having second thoughts about this medication thinking that i should have asked for perhaps wellbutrin.

One difference is that Celexa is available in generic form and Lexapro is not which means theoretically generic Celexa (generic form) should be less costly. Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety.

Hi, I agree with you the doctors told me I would LOOSE weight while taking the Escitalopram Oxalate, however I have gained weight. I would like to hear from anyone who has lost weight whilst on this drugs, cause I need some hints on diet etc...

celexa generic citalopram and brand name cipram in the the eastern countries is produced by the same Danish company which produces cipralex/lexapro/escitalopram. In different forums one finds many pts using it. it's weaker than lexapro, exactly half its therapeutic dose in maximum and minimum. BP pts take wellbutrin, celexa, lexapro in the majority of the cases. A few take seroxat/paxil to go with lamictal.

I been taking Citalopram for several years and intend to keep on taking it however I have recently come across Escitalopram and it is almost half the price here where I live. When googling it, it seems to be part of the same family. Do you think I would be able to easily change from one to the other?

Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work.
