Avatar f tn I don't know if your doc has discussed with you Xanax or something like it to take when you have a severe bout of anxiety. I use it and it works very well with no side effects. Take it as needed. It can be slightly addictive. The docs have me on it 3 times a day, but because I need it and am not on anything else at the moment.
Avatar f tn In my experience, prozac has been used more for depression than anxiety. Escitalopram (celexa) is one of the better medications for anxiety & depression. As CJ said above, a lower dose of escitalopram does not mean it's less effective. You're already taking the right steps to get better. You're on a waitlist to see a counsellor and yes 6 weeks seems like a long time but it will fly by.

What is the average delay time I can expect?

Lexapro--generic name escitalopram--is a medication that is prescribed for & quite effective at treating depression and anxiety disorders. It is often recommended that anti-depressant agents be continued for a period of at least 1 year, even if you now feel fine, in order to prevent relapse back into a depressive state.
Avatar f tn Hi I've been on wellbutrin for a few years but my doctor just added escitalopram (Lexapro ). I've been on it for five days now and I'm extremely tired I can't stay awake but can't sleep at night at all. I feel very weak and there was two days that I had tingling. Is this normal? Does the tiredness go away? I can't function like this.

Avatar m tn I decided to go to psychiatrist and so she saw severe anxiety and gave me ssri antidepressant escitalopram which made me a lot worse, my heart rate was 90-100 even when i wanted to go to sleep. Now she wants to put me on mirtazapine and i just can't understand how it can work because its serotonin and norepinephrine reuptaker, so how it will reduce my anxiety if i will have more norepinephrine in my blood, i thought they will block it, not increase it.

Avatar m tn Escitalopram is an oral drug that is used for treating depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Chemically, escitalopram is similar to citalopram (Celexa). Both are in the class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a class that also includes fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil) and sertraline (Zoloft). SSRIs work by affecting neurotransmitters in the brain, the chemical messengers that nerves use to communicate with one another.
Avatar m tn I been taking Citalopram for several years and intend to keep on taking it however I have recently come across Escitalopram and it is almost half the price here where I live. When googling it, it seems to be part of the same family. Do you think I would be able to easily change from one to the other?
Avatar f tn After many years of Anxiety/Depression and many different types of anti-depressants ...i have recently been prescribed Escitalopram 5mg. I was wondering if anyone had taken this medication and were the results good/bad/indifferent.
Avatar f tn Hello. Forgive me for this being so long, I just want to make sure I'm providing good context because I'm not exactly sure what's going on. I've had depression since childhood, and as of a few years ago I began developing some mild symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety does run in my family, but there's also been some question as to whether or not my sibling also has comorbid bipolar disorder. My previous doctor thought I may have bipolar 2, so she put me on escitalopram and lamictal.
Avatar n tn Hi Tom, Your pharmacist can best answer this one. But basically, they are both SSRI's(selective seretonin reuptake inhibitors)that are used to treat depression(and i think lexapro is also used to treat anxiety). You shouldn't take any drugs based on the advice of a friend, best to consult with your dr. I hope you find a way to deal with both your pain and depression. I been there. Nick.
