Epipen when to use

Common Questions and Answers about Epipen when to use

epipen

Avatar n tn Between the two maintaining your airway is the priority to any EMS or other medical professional, if it was me, I would not hesitate to use an epipen. It takes effect fast and it's effects wear off just as fast, long enough for a dose benadryl or a longer acting antihistamine or steroid... Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Avatar f tn This weekend was horrible, I had two reaction to the water, on friday it was with rain, and had to give me 2 shoots of Epipen, and than I was better but shaking badly from the Epipen, and yesturday just by sweat I did a reaction and again the Epipen but just once, and I didnt even went to the hospital after, his that dangerous if I dont go???? And his it dangerous I have to many shoots?????
Avatar f tn Hi catie, Well you don't have to take meds for food allergies - unless you eat the foods you're allergic to of course! Zyrtec is for the airborne allergies, such as pollen and dog hair, it's a strong antihistamine (anti-allergy) and its side affects can make you drowsy, but it doesn't affect me. I only take it during hay fever season, and avoid dogs. It's better than remembering to take a pill every day!
230262 tn?1316645934 t want to scare you but severe allergic reactions can be a serious problem. So do inquire about when to use the Epipen. I never use it immediately. I always try the benadryl first and it's very cheap. The Epipen is my just in case medicine.
Avatar n tn Unrefined all natural sea-salt 1 teaspoon with a glass of room temperature water x2, should help, until the sufferer gets to a doctor or clinic. Sometimes this remedy takes care of it, without having to see the doctor. Better yet, why not eliminate the Allergy. Visit a Holistic Allergy Elimination Therapist for that. "Allergy Antidotes" (the method I use here in Canada) is very efficient and usually permanent results within a few treatments. N.A.E.T. ( Dr.

645800 tn?1466860955 In the interim you need to have something like Medic Alert who could not only notify the paramedics, but could possibly notify someone around you who could come to your aid. You should teach everyone in your family how to use the EpiPen and all your close (in proximity and other) friends. There are also personal alarms that will sound shrilly if activated. That could alert family and neighbors.
Avatar f tn I have carried an epipen for the last 11 years for my son and Thank God we have not had to use it. But I was wondering if anyone did have an experience like this and had to use an epipen. Or if you have any information on urticaria pigmentosa? ( I know alot about it but I always would like to know more. Please share any information you may have or experiences you incountered.
Avatar n tn The doctor put me on 20mg dose of Doxepin concentrate at night, Zyrtec once a day in the mornings and then said I could take Benedryl in addition to that if I felt I needed it when symptoms come on. He actually suggested I use the Epi pen he has prescribed when I have symptoms. But I hate the way it makes me feel and will only use it if I REALLY need it. And those THINGS are so expensive!
Avatar m tn I would suggest you obtain a referral to an allergist or an ENT who does allergy testing. That is the only way to reliably know what is causing your allergic reaction. Some allergies can be life-threatening as they can precipitate anaphylactic shock in which the swelling can be so severe that it impairs the ability to breathe. Therefore, I would suggest you see someone as soon as possible. Also, keep an epi pen with you in case of an emergency. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
645800 tn?1466860955 With the talk of EpiPen in Michelle's post earlier today it got me thinking about my problem with needles and other self infecting skin damage devices. I am hoping that maybe someone will have some ideas or at least where to look for help with this. My problem isn't the normal fear of needles. I can get shot or blood drawn with no problems. Well except I have to be able to watch what is going on.If I can't see it happening I will pass out.
20451547 tn?1498215245 I have an epipen, I just never want to have to use it. What should I do about these frequent panic attacks? This is no fun....living like this....it stress me out super bad.
Avatar n tn It all depends on the patient as well because she may not have the same kind of reaction with the second medication that she had with the first. I am not a doctor but it is important to remember that when a doctor prescribes a medication they are only doing so because they believe the benefits outweigh the risks. I am assuming her doctor knows about the previous allergy and I would say if she takes the medication just watch her very closely for an adverse effects. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn I did buy the epipen, and do have it in my school bag just in case, but I did not need to use it even when I, soon after having taken the test, ate a fish nugget that I thought was a regular chicken nugget. I had no reaction! Could I be sensitised to the test? I do remember a while back that I sat inside of a fish restaurant that had no tables outside and my eye did begin to itch. I am inclined to believe that this was a coincidence (I am allergic to a few other things as well).
Avatar f tn The other day my friend had a major asthma attack that almost sent him to the ER-- he thankfully had an epipen nearby. He thinks what triggered it was a laxative (sennosides in pill form) he took a couple of hours before. Is this even possible? And if so, should he be avoiding all things laxative? I wouldn't be asking these questions here, but he is too stubborn to go to a doctor like he should.
Avatar n tn After the assistant put in the drops to dilate my eyes I passed out. Once I came to I vomited and continued to do so the rest of the day. I was disoriented, thinking I was walking one way and really going another. The eye doctor assured me that it was impossible to have an allergic reaction to these drops. Is it possible? I cringe even thinking about going back but know I need to.
Avatar f tn Yes, I take Rebif as well and I don't have any injection site problems. I just started 3 weeks ago though. But I take it at night right before I go to sleep. If I do it during the day, I get realllllllly sleepy. Hope everything turns out ok!
Avatar f tn This happened within a few min. When I went to the ER they told me I had lupus. I went to other docs then and was told that I did not have lupus. (that happened when i was 18), And two years ago, one doc told me I could have a rare form of cancer but for me not to be worried because at the moment my blood tests looked okay(really?!?!?) But I guess what my question is, what is wrong with me? Any ideas? I never had any issues up until I was 16.
560813 tn?1281606868 what day of cycle is best to use a trigger shot of novarel to induce ovulation I've heard cd12 or later what day of cycle is best
Avatar n tn Try to tell my story in short. November 2 I had a bowl of clam chowder (eaten many times in my life) and a half hour later I was in anaphylactic shock. I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself.
1984089 tn?1349482899 Not during pregnancy but I developed an allergy to apples since the birth of my first child. It's definitely a good idea to ask your doctor but I have started carrying a dose of Benadryl in my purse just in case of unexpected reactions.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have ingested or been exposed to something that is an allergen (to you). You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
Avatar n tn Back in August I was visiting South America Chile. while at lunch I helped myself with a small portion of ceviche (fresh fish salad). then I went back for some shrimp, and immediately I had the worst allergic reaction. I could not breath and ended up in the hospital which was fearly close. Dr. gave me an IV of Cortizon, and I was fine in no time. I had to take medication for one week he said not to eat chocolat, citrics, like oranges ,grape fruit, lemon, eggs.
Avatar m tn High IgE levels can be dangerous as they can trigger a severe allergic reaction in presence of an allergen or substance that your daughter may be allergic to. Hence, it is important for her to take an allergy panel test to know what she is allergic to. Maybe even you may know if she is allergic to something—like she sneezes or coughs or has running nose or she scratches in a particular environment or after a particular meal etc.
Avatar f tn Well, frankly, given how TriMix is administered, those must be pretty dang bad headaches, flushing and congestion to make it better than other choices! Yikes! I haven't found anything in reading up on TriMix side effects that suggest you can get a cumulative effect of the drug itself, like, it builds up in your body or something. I'd take the fact that the erection went down as a sign it doesn't build up, or it does fade away.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info. The ER doctor mentioned it could possibly be preservatives, but there isn't a way to test against those, at least that's what I was told. Is there? I've started keeping a daily food journal and of course avoiding the things I know for sure. It's just so frustrating because I've never had any problem with any food and now all of sudden I do. I was prescribed an Epipen, but with the last reaction I just had 3 days ago, I didn't have to use it.
