epipen

1639028 tn?1300617084 if you do do you struggel emotionally as well? what is it like for you? what symptoms do you get? how many reactions have you suffered from?
Avatar n tn m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
Avatar f tn a whole body reaction like that sounds a lot like a food allergy. and your reactions sound pretty serious. just as a warning, these type of allergies can cause more severe reactions the more you are exposed, so next time it happens it could be much worse. I would go to a doctor and get an epipen (spelling?). hopefully you will never need it, but it might save your life.
Avatar m tn I now carry an epipen but would really like to track down the food that caused me to go into shock. Has anyone had such a reaction to chives or green onions without being allergic to other foods in that family? Thanks for any help you can give me.
453255 tn?1205792176 I have anaphylaxis and severe asthma, and I have several known anaphylactic triggers, (such as all treenuts, certain types of pollen, and raw fruit - especially apples) - but my new allergist I recently met with explained to me the reason I am allergic to raw fruit such as apples, peaches, pairs plumbs is because of a condition called "Oral Allergy Syndrome" where my tongue recognizes the fruit as pollen in its raw state.
Avatar n tn I'm having the following symptoms whenever I ingest certain types of food: the inside of my mouth (cheeks/tongue) swells and it's painful to swallow. It started out happening everytime I ate something with mayonnaise. But I just recently had a reaction within 35 minutes after eating Lay's salt & vinegar potato chips and on another occasion, I haven't been able to pinpoint the food source.
645800 tn?1466860955 I am very allergic to bee and wasp stings to the point that I can die from a sting within about 1/2 hour or so. As a result I am suppose to carry an EpiPen with me at all times ( especially since there are a lot of wasps and bees around my home ). But despite this the couple of times I have been stung I have never been able to give myself the much needed shot. And to make matter worse I always have 2 reactions to each sting.
Avatar f tn I'm a healthy 24 year old female from Ohio.. have had all kinds of indoor and outdoor allergies since childhood, but around age 21, I developed several food allergies. mainly tree nuts, some beans, and fruit. I recently was retested to see if any of them went away, and it has only gotten severely worse! longer list of nuts, fruits, beans... it's beginning to seem the list of things I CAN eat is shorter than the list of things I CAN'T eat.
Avatar n tn I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
Avatar f tn Benadryl can help calm certain reactions if you don't have anything else on hand and it's safe for baby
Avatar n tn Here is a brief history/timeline of the "allergic reactions" I've had. Prior to this I have not had allergic reactions before. Also I live in Mexico and, so far, the doctors have been of no help. January 2012 - while vacationing at the beach had a big lump appear on the bottoms of each foot. It was hard, painful and itchy. At the time I was taking 2 anti-biotics for a bladder infection. I didn't not pay any attention to food or anything I consumed.
Avatar m tn Yes, we can develop allergies to different things throughout our lifetime as the allergy develops in response to a repeated stimulus. Its not common to develop anaphylactic reactions suddenly to commonly eaten food, but it can happen. Also, if there is no past history of allergic reactions to food, its less common or less likely to happen. The chances are less. Any further questions will be glad to answer. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn This can range from common hay fever to hives to asthma or anaphylactic reactions. Of these the anaphylactic reactions are the most severe forms and the symptoms can include breathlessness with stridor and with dropping of blood pressure resulting in loss of consciousness. It is a medical emergency and needs to be tackled immediately. Epipen is used in such situations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I have noticed a garlic smell on my hands in the last few weeks, I take levothyroxin for thyroid condition, the only medication I take. I recently am having allergic reactions to food. My dr. has prescribed a epipen to use in case of emergency, since I had a bad reaction to something which we haven't pinpointed as of yet about 10 days ago. I am beside myself trying to figure out what I am allergic to and why I'm suffering from so many different reactions to my system.
Avatar f tn Are allergic reactions to stings regional? If we return to the US will our son not be allergic to the wasp venom there?
Avatar f tn This weekend was horrible, I had two reaction to the water, on friday it was with rain, and had to give me 2 shoots of Epipen, and than I was better but shaking badly from the Epipen, and yesturday just by sweat I did a reaction and again the Epipen but just once, and I didnt even went to the hospital after, his that dangerous if I dont go???? And his it dangerous I have to many shoots?????
Avatar f tn I'm a 29/f. I had an MRI w/ contrast done to differentiate a mass found on my pineal gland 9/11/15. During the administration of the contrast dye, I suffered from an anaphylactic response within 60 seconds. Today, 10/19/15, I was suffering a headache and took Excedrin Extra Strength and suffered a mild/moderate allergic reaction (within minutes). I've taken Excedrin many times prior to this.
Avatar f tn Has anyone any experience with developing widespead multiple chemical sensitivity and allergic reactions to all kinds of foods and unknown allergens involving swelling of the tongue and respiratory distress following a medication for high blood pressure? This is a senior citizen who is in otherwise very good health but is losing so much weight because she cannot eat anything and this is baffling doctors.
Avatar n tn The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, and edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as severe idiosyncratic dermatologic reaction, usually after multiple doses. If drug allergy is suspected you need to discontinue the drug and report to your doctor immediately. In the future avoid further exposure to it as prevention is best.
Avatar m tn The past 18 months I have had 5 allergic reactions while eating or immediately following. I was skin tested by an allergist with benign findings. The meals consisted of pancakes/bacon, sausage gravy and biscuits, and steel cut oatmeal. The symptoms are itchy skin which spreads from neck to face and the remainder of the body (feels like heat swarming my legs and arms). My lips may or may not itch and my throat may start to swell.
