Epipen for hives

Common Questions and Answers about Epipen for hives

epipen

Avatar m tn First of all when your MD returns you want to look into getting an epipen for your wife. Even if the reaction was as mild as hives the next time she could go into full antiphlactic shock. You have to be quite tender with allergies and your wife's advanced age could pose a complication. It sounds as though the flu shot and the medications that she is on may have had an adverse affect combined. You should speak with your pharmacist since your MD isn;t available.
Avatar f tn Get tested for allergies. It sounds like you have ingested or been exposed to something that is an allergen (to you). You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 years ago and take levothyroxine 100mcgs daily. Last September I developed hives, my GP felt it was an allergy but since then I have had 3 anyphalactic shock episodes where I have had to be hospitalised, I now carry an Epipen.
Avatar f tn It started only in the injection site. But now its in other areas for ex my chest it itched so bad that I noticed a bruise, which is un normal for me.
Avatar f tn I have carried an epipen for the last 11 years for my son and Thank God we have not had to use it. But I was wondering if anyone did have an experience like this and had to use an epipen. Or if you have any information on urticaria pigmentosa? ( I know alot about it but I always would like to know more. Please share any information you may have or experiences you incountered.
Avatar f tn Hello, Water urticaria, or aquagenic urticaria, is a rare condition in which hives develop within 1 to 15 minutes after contact with water. The hives last for 10 to 120 minutes and do not seem to be caused by histamine release like the other physical hives. Most investigators believe that this condition is actually exquisite skin sensitivity to additives in the water such as chlorine but distilled water can also cause this reaction.
Avatar n tn i have had chronic hives for 15 years. they come and go. i know the pain of hives so my prayers go to anyone here with them. allergy tests show a moderate reaction to mold. my thyroid tests have always been normal but interestingly enough i recently had a test that show a high level of calcium in my blood caused by my parathyroid. (4 organs near the thyroid but unrelated) an endocrinologist will determine in a week if i need surgury.
Avatar n tn I have some serious allergies and often they close my throat. I live 20 minutes from the nearest doctor or hospital. Until recently I always felt safe because I could use an epipen and that would give me time to get help. But now I have been diagnosed with about 8000 PVCs a day, and was told by another sufferer that I shouldn't use an epipen anymore, that it's not a good idea for those with PVCs.
Avatar n tn I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
Avatar f tn For pollen, dog and cat hair try taking some antihistamine like Zyrtec (works well for me). For the food allergies, you just have to avoid them. Try Googling some gluten-free recipes.
Avatar m tn For the past five years, suddenly I can feel hives starting, and they become huge welts. My blood pressure drops, my pulse is hardly detectable, my face and lips swell, and once I became unconscious. By the time the ambulance got there, they could barely get a pressure or pulse. They said in a couple minutes, it would have been too late. I carry an epipen, and when I use it, I can get to the hospital before it is too late.

Avatar f tn Two days upon my return I broke out in hives. This was before eating breakfast. My allergist gave me allegra 180mg twice a day, a medrol shot and I had taken benadryl. The bloodwork showed an IGE level of 1400 but didn't specify the allergen. In March I began having shortness of breath and was hyperventilating., From there I had chronic diahrea. I had fatigue for weeks. Soon after that I was waking up with scratches all over my body.
Avatar f tn What about food allergies? I would think you would be on an antihistamine every day and carry an epipen for emergencies. Maybe there are shots you could take if they found out your triggers. Have you seen an actual allergist?
Avatar f tn Thank you for you reply. Thank God his symptoms are ssslllowwlly clearing. He still has spells of being cold yet his skin feels hot. We took him to a dermatologist who was a total jerk and looked at his hands and said he has eczema. He wouldn't even listen to what had been happening. Needless to say we're back at square one. I'm a little concerned now though because his skin doesn't seem to be able to sweat.
Avatar m tn m about to try drinking Green Tea and see if that helps with the symptoms. I really feel for those who have suffered w/ hives many of years. I don't know how you do it!! I've only had them periodically for 4 weeks and it's about driving me mad! Any help, suggestions, words of encouragement are welcomed. Thanks!

Avatar f tn Hi, I started getting hives 4 months postpartum and I have now experienced them every night for two months. I two get them on my face throat, eye balls and enternally, everywhere. I had blood work and they said everything is fine. I have a appointment to see a second allergist, but the first one could not figure it out. I changed my diet, tried to find things that could possibly be causing it and the bottom line is I haven't found anything.
Avatar n tn Also during this time my iron was low so I had to go to the hospital weekly for iron infusions. The hives lasted for a year exactly and went away on its on. Now I had my third child in December 2009. 3 months after having my child now I have just started getting hives again. I now each time I get them they get worse. Could it me linked to my pregnancies? Is it a hormone or blood imbalance? Who should I see?
Avatar n tn Is Epipen available in India? If not, what is the alternative emergency treatment for anaphylactic shock commonly used?
Avatar f tn Yes, we are wondering if his reaction was built up as a result was as a result of venom from other stings or if this reaction was from this particular wasp. We do know for certain that this was his only sting in the Philippines. We do know that this particular wasp is native to the tropics. The doctor here said that if we leave the country he might not react to other wasp stings in the US. We were just wondering if that advice is correct.
