Epipen for allergies

Common Questions and Answers about Epipen for allergies

epipen

Avatar n tn I have a friend who says she uses Benadryl for her allergies to ants and bees rather than an epipen because of the cost. I don't think I'd feel safe doing that, though. Again, thanks a bunch!
Avatar f tn For pollen, dog and cat hair try taking some antihistamine like Zyrtec (works well for me). For the food allergies, you just have to avoid them. Try Googling some gluten-free recipes.
230262 tn?1316645934 d suggest you get a pediatric Epipen. Personally I keep 2 on hand. You should have 1 at school for him and one either in your purse or at home. He should have one available at all times. These allergies accelerate quickly. Check for dosage with your doctor, but you can also use benadryl for allergic reactions. I'm so sorry this happened to your children. These stings hurt horribly! And right now with school starting, you all have enough on your plate. Good luck at the clinic tonight.
Avatar f tn Get tested for allergies. It sounds like you have ingested or been exposed to something that is an allergen (to you). You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
Avatar m tn Nicotine is a vasoconstricter, meaning it makes it harder to pump blood through microcirculation. Furthermore there is no antidote. Nicotine is is absolutely contraindicated. You have a potentially life-threatening problem that cannot be solved by home remedies. You do not know when the situation may deteriorate into what is called a "locked-lung" resulting in death. The fact you have observed the symtoms progressively get worse over a period of time disturbs me.
Avatar m tn I went out last night and was having a good time, I normally carry an epipen for my anaphylactic allergies but haven't had allergies for two years, I'm only Allergic to latex and bananas. I poured my own drinks because we had bottle service but then had to make a quick call so I handed my drink to one of my girlfriends and went outside, when I came back she had gone to the bathroom and had left my drink on the table I didn't think much of it and continued to drink my drink.
Avatar f tn , From there I had chronic diahrea. I had fatigue for weeks. Soon after that I was waking up with scratches all over my body. I began taking claritin everyday and using dove wash and cerave lotion. So when I was finally feeling better things changed. We went out to eat last weekend. I didn't feel too good since the pollen was high, the temp was high and it was humid. I had a foggy brain and was dizzy. At the restaurant I ordered grilled chicken with white rice and black beans.
Avatar f tn I'm a healthy 24 year old female from Ohio.. have had all kinds of indoor and outdoor allergies since childhood, but around age 21, I developed several food allergies. mainly tree nuts, some beans, and fruit. I recently was retested to see if any of them went away, and it has only gotten severely worse! longer list of nuts, fruits, beans... it's beginning to seem the list of things I CAN eat is shorter than the list of things I CAN'T eat.
Avatar m tn For some reason they won’t let me post my email address...I’m going to try posting and separating each letter v d w e b b e r @ m e .
1984089 tn?1349482899 Not during pregnancy but I developed an allergy to apples since the birth of my first child. It's definitely a good idea to ask your doctor but I have started carrying a dose of Benadryl in my purse just in case of unexpected reactions.
Avatar n tn I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
Avatar m tn First of all when your MD returns you want to look into getting an epipen for your wife. Even if the reaction was as mild as hives the next time she could go into full antiphlactic shock. You have to be quite tender with allergies and your wife's advanced age could pose a complication. It sounds as though the flu shot and the medications that she is on may have had an adverse affect combined. You should speak with your pharmacist since your MD isn;t available.
Avatar f tn I think you are saying that you have "urticaria." Try this. Get yourself a bottle of liquid Benadryl, commonly used for children's allergies. At the first suggestion of throat swelling take small sips of this antihistamine. Then drink a full dose. This has always controlled the swelling for me, but in my case I have eaten something that I am allergic to and the reaction starts in the throat. For you, the throat swelling seems to be part of a systemic reaction.
Avatar m tn In some cases, people who are allergic to wheat, beans (legumes), milk or other foods can have an allergic reaction to soy. You can confirm this by blood test to see for raised IgE levels and skin testing for soy products. I would suggest you obtain a referral to an allergist or an ENT who does allergy testing. Some allergies can be life-threatening as they can precipitate anaphylactic shock in which the swelling can be so severe that it impairs the ability to breathe.
Avatar f tn and your reactions sound pretty serious. just as a warning, these type of allergies can cause more severe reactions the more you are exposed, so next time it happens it could be much worse. I would go to a doctor and get an epipen (spelling?). hopefully you will never need it, but it might save your life.
Avatar n tn t been able to pinpoint the food source. Food allergy test came back negative, but inhalant allergies positive, so I take Zyrtec. I was told possible food intolerance. I've had 7 reactions since 11/2008 and now carry an Epipen. With the last 2 recent reactions, now my tongue forms a white coating on it and it's painful to the point where I lose my taste buds after the swelling goes down. I take Benadryl, some steroids and eventually it all goes away within 24-36 hours.
9552239 tn?1404989880 Hi Eve, Thanks for your message, sorry to hear about your allergies and it must be awful to have asthma. I had severe hay fever as a child and had an allergy test as a teenager - the result was allergies to pollen, grass, dust, mould and cats. I managed all that with anti-histamines and just tried to avoid triggers as much as possible - never thought too much about it.

Avatar n tn Hello, As your son is having symptoms of food allergy to variable foods,so it could be due to any of the constituents of these foods to which he is allergic.Skin tests and blood tests are good for air borne allergies but for food allergies, food challenge tests and elimination diets are the best. That is the reason that the allergist has asked you to reintroduce these foods.
Avatar f tn I'm a 29/f. I had an MRI w/ contrast done to differentiate a mass found on my pineal gland 9/11/15. During the administration of the contrast dye, I suffered from an anaphylactic response within 60 seconds. Today, 10/19/15, I was suffering a headache and took Excedrin Extra Strength and suffered a mild/moderate allergic reaction (within minutes). I've taken Excedrin many times prior to this.
