Epipen benadryl

Common Questions and Answers about Epipen benadryl

epipen

Avatar n tn I have a friend who says she uses Benadryl for her allergies to ants and bees rather than an epipen because of the cost. I don't think I'd feel safe doing that, though. Again, thanks a bunch!
Avatar f tn You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
230262 tn?1316645934 Hi Ohio: It's my experience and to my knowledge, once you've had a strong allergic reaction to something, yes, it will accelerate. And NO! Epipens are not expensive. I use Benadryl as my first line of defense once a reaction starts. Many times it works and I don't have to use the Epipen. I hate the way the Epipen makes me feel. So do ask your doctor. I don't want to scare you but severe allergic reactions can be a serious problem.
Avatar f tn I think you are saying that you have "urticaria." Try this. Get yourself a bottle of liquid Benadryl, commonly used for children's allergies. At the first suggestion of throat swelling take small sips of this antihistamine. Then drink a full dose. This has always controlled the swelling for me, but in my case I have eaten something that I am allergic to and the reaction starts in the throat. For you, the throat swelling seems to be part of a systemic reaction.
1322157 tn?1279656681 I had to get an Epipen. Before that it was 5 benadryl every 30 minutes until it abated. I'm allergic to everything.
Avatar n tn m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Avatar m tn About 6 months ago, I started getting throat irritation, sort of like itchiness, very deep in my throat near my larynx. I found that taking a half benadryl helped. That was my treatment for a while, but it's gotten much worse over time. It usually starts around 10am. There's a small itchiness deep in the throat, maybe some difficulty swallowing or a "thick" feeling like post-naasal drip.
Avatar f tn This weekend was horrible, I had two reaction to the water, on friday it was with rain, and had to give me 2 shoots of Epipen, and than I was better but shaking badly from the Epipen, and yesturday just by sweat I did a reaction and again the Epipen but just once, and I didnt even went to the hospital after, his that dangerous if I dont go???? And his it dangerous I have to many shoots?????
Avatar m tn I would say it could be due to additives in the food, but oatmeal does not have any. Still, these are serious symptoms, see another allergist if you are able and ask for the RAST test, this is a blood test that test for multiple foods, it is very accurate, I have had them, they are eye-openers.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
Avatar n tn In addition to the avoidance of allergen in your diet, you can take some OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin. They can relieve the symptoms. If your symptoms do not improve then pls consult an allergy specialist. You may need steroids or immunotherapy. Also wear an allergy bracelet in future describing your milk allergy and carry an epipen along with you so that life threatening anaphylaxis can be avoided. Please do keep me posted about the developments. Kind Rgds.
Avatar f tn My dr. has prescribed a epipen to use in case of emergency, since I had a bad reaction to something which we haven't pinpointed as of yet about 10 days ago. I am beside myself trying to figure out what I am allergic to and why I'm suffering from so many different reactions to my system. I want to know if this garlic smell could also be a reaction to food, I have not ingested garlic at all in the last few weeks.
Avatar f tn I took some benadryl and the sore throat/ drip went away. Later in the morning I started experiencing diarrhea. Nothing horrible, but it made me decide to go to urgent care. They said it was an allergic reaction and prescribed an epipen. I declined because I have no insurance. Since then I've seen another doctor who thinks its hsv 1. However I have not had any of the other symptoms of hsv. I've not had blistering, swollen glands, flu like symptoms. Any of that.
Avatar n tn I'm having the following symptoms whenever I ingest certain types of food: the inside of my mouth (cheeks/tongue) swells and it's painful to swallow. It started out happening everytime I ate something with mayonnaise. But I just recently had a reaction within 35 minutes after eating Lay's salt & vinegar potato chips and on another occasion, I haven't been able to pinpoint the food source.
Avatar f tn In Jan I traveld out of the US to the dominican republic. Two days upon my return I broke out in hives. This was before eating breakfast. My allergist gave me allegra 180mg twice a day, a medrol shot and I had taken benadryl. The bloodwork showed an IGE level of 1400 but didn't specify the allergen. In March I began having shortness of breath and was hyperventilating., From there I had chronic diahrea. I had fatigue for weeks.
Avatar n tn I had chronic, debilitating hives for 6 months. I went to 6 different doctors who put me on everything from doxepine, zyrtec, benadryl, you name it. Finally a specialist tested my antibodies. I always had a normal thyroid panel, so the doctors never tested my antibodies. I had elevated antibodies and was diagnosed with hashimotos. They put me on levoxyl eight years ago and I have not seen a hive since. My sister had the exact problem...normal TSH, chronic hives.
3986919 tn?1352125983 It seems you are really in good hands here - It must be scary to experience an escalating reaction like the one you describe. Do you have something to keep you like an epipen or benadryl or stronger if indeed you need to make that emergency run to ER? I hope so :( I don't know anything about mast cell, but praying you remain in good care. All the best to you today and the coming days, what a journey you are on.
Avatar f tn She put a wet facecloth on my face and it was red a swollen, and my saturation was going down, had angioadema, hard time to breath, and some blood test too, If I go in the water in a acute reaction I would die she said, and to relief the symptoms his to take my epipen and some Benadryl, Reactine and Zantac, and sometimes Atarax.
Avatar f tn The swollen areas had a painful itch and it hurt to walk or put pressure, this happened twice that year all my mom could tell me is to put some benadryl cream on(felt fresher, but did not cure), I had no insurance or medical I didn't want to owe money to the E.R.. Call me stupid if you want but please don't blame my mom at all. I had already gone to the hospital many times before that for swollen tonsils.
Avatar n tn You should have an Epipen with you if you have an allergic reaction, and it could save your life, I live in Canada too, and they did some allergy test and Im allergic to so many things but the weirdest thing Im allergic too and very hard to live with his WATER, Im deadly allergic to water :S
645800 tn?1466860955 I am very allergic to bee and wasp stings to the point that I can die from a sting within about 1/2 hour or so. As a result I am suppose to carry an EpiPen with me at all times ( especially since there are a lot of wasps and bees around my home ). But despite this the couple of times I have been stung I have never been able to give myself the much needed shot. And to make matter worse I always have 2 reactions to each sting.
Avatar f tn he recommended i take some benadryl and so far it has been a lot better. im just waiting for my scalp to kind of heal and calm down from the bleach. but thank you anyways. if anyone else is reading this i recommend taking benadryl like i did if the allergic reaction isnt EXTREME and is only some itching and burning. you can also go to a doctor to get their opinion if you would like, because i know going to the pharmasist helped me feel a lot better.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm sorry, I tried to clarify (poorly!) but the red spot does not itch and there is no negative sensation other than the warmth. I wouldn't notice it at all except it makes me feel very warm and is warm to the touch. And I didn't mention any migraine issues so I'm a little confused. No, I am not currently taking daily medication though I do take Zyrtec as needed for seasonal allergies.
Avatar m tn i try benadryl and still doesnt work for me. i went to the doctors and they said its just chronic allergies...she prescribed me epipen. What should i do because i cant take it anymore it keeps coming back..im a heavy set guy, i weight 245 and im 6'0. is this happening because im overweight? i seriously need your help people.
