Avatar m tn I am from India and I had gone to a Hospital for taking a vitamin injection. I had certain symptoms after 2 weeks and so I am a little anxious if some negligence at the hospital would have caused accidental HIV transmission ( though it is a decent sized hospital) . Though I understand the possibility is next to impossible, your responses would put my mind to rest.
Avatar f tn 4 days back i got an accidental needle prick in injection after giving intra-muscular injection to an 50 to 55 years old lady............... After that i had severe anxiety towards chances of HIV infection......... And i do not know whether that lady had HIV infection but she seems healthy.... Please do the needful..................
Avatar n tn m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
546639 tn?1219850831 Hi, I have never read of an inadvertent injection of a local anesthetic resulting in so many complications. There have been reports of an accidental intravascular injection resulting in sudden serious rhythm disturbances in the heart that can even cause a sudden stoppage of the heartbeat. In case, the clots are formed in the blood vessel (artery), they usually get trapped in the capillaries and don’t keep on traveling.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
Avatar m tn Once exposed to air the virus becomes inactive. HIV is very fragile. It needs to attach itself to a host under near perfect conditions. The examples you are asking about in your question pose no risk......except for needles...that is if you share/reuse an "injection" needle for intravenous drug-use from an infected person ....then the risk is high.
Avatar f tn So, a needle poke is different than an injection. While transfer with syringes happens, it is usually in the healthcare setting. But because air inactivates the virus, a needle poke is generally not a risk. The last documented case of this happening was in 1999 in the healthcare setting. The risk is negligible here. Talk to your supervisor for protocol (assume you work at an establishment). Typically there needs to be visible blood in the device for transmission.
645800 tn?1466860955 With the talk of EpiPen in Michelle's post earlier today it got me thinking about my problem with needles and other self infecting skin damage devices. I am hoping that maybe someone will have some ideas or at least where to look for help with this. My problem isn't the normal fear of needles. I can get shot or blood drawn with no problems. Well except I have to be able to watch what is going on.If I can't see it happening I will pass out.
Avatar f tn Injection needles are hollow and yours wash't, and it would have to be shared quickly to be a risk because the virus effectively dies instantly on air contact so the only live virus would have to be inside the hollow needle.
Avatar n tn html#Clinical%20Pharmacology My experience with Lantus led to serious hypoglycemia, but that was due to accidental IV injection of a portion of the dose, which is a documented problem. Quote from above web page: "PRECAUTIONS General: LANTUS is not intended for intravenous administration. The prolonged duration of activity of insulin glargine is dependent on injection into subcutaneous tissue. Intravenous administration of the usual subcutaneous dose could result in severe hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn I went to dentist and had alot of dental work due to my gum disease and poor oral hygiene, certainly bleeding was included (injection and cuts etc.) Then I left the clinic. One the way back I saw a friend and I shook hands with him. (My right hand) Then I got a taxi and went back home. When I reached home I was feeling blood in my mouth so I went to bathroom, filled my right hand with water and put it in my mouth in order to wash it. Unfortunately I forgot to wash my hand before this.
Avatar f tn Even medical workers who experience an accidental needlestick involving a patient know to have hep c the odds of catching hep c in that way is about 1.8%. So yes there is a theoretical risk in other circumstances but primarily hep c is transmitted by blood to blood contact either by blood transfusion before modern testing became available, tattoos in locations that do not use best practices i.e. unlicensed tattoo parlors, current or past injection drug users. From the CDC http://www.
Avatar m tn Not sure what your exact knee problem is but there is an injection called Synvisc that I know several people had that helped tremendously. Pain management is just that. It's about managing pain, not eliminating it. It's about learning how to deal with it. And it's about using more than just medications. They have PT, OT, different injections, topical gels, etc. that will work with the medications. This way you can be on the lowest dose possible.
Avatar n tn I had an accidental lumbar puncture during an epidural injection. It has been a month and am still suffering a bad headache and nausea. I have had 2 blood patches. The most recent one 4 days ago in which 20ml of blood was used. I am really scared and don't know what to do. Is it possible that both blood patches failed? Please help me.
4451049 tn?1387153437 If the person having the attack carries an epinephrine autoinjector (such as an EpiPen or EpiPen Jr), give him or her a shot right away. Even if symptoms improve after an emergency epinephrine injection, a visit to the emergency department is still necessary to make sure symptoms don't return. " Ephedra------ I certainly can't say that you were really going into an attack----- but if had been me I would have stabbed my EpiPen into my thigh and then gone to the ER.
Avatar f tn I have just undergone 4 epidural steroid injection, 1 facet injection and a discogram (exTREMELY painful!) for several torn discs in my lower back. All of this done over the last 6 months or so. I am noticing a very disturbing patern. Last injection was 3 days ago and even though my back is feeling better, I am having the typical hot flashes, flu like symptoms, etc... that normally accompany steroids.
Avatar n tn I might engage in deep kissing with someone I know and possibly sexual intercourse - would that put me at risk if we assume that she is HIV infected? What if her gum would be bleeding a little or accidental cheek bite etc. I would like to know just to be be on a safe side. Also, I know you recommend to talk to potential partners about their sexual past. Do you just recommend to directly ask if the person has been tested for hiv recently?
Avatar n tn I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
Avatar f tn Most cases are due to the sharing of IV drug injection needles with other drug users or having a blood transfusion before 1990 when antibody testing for hep c was developed and the blood supply secured. Even in the case of a health care worker who should experience an accidental needle stick involving a patient with known hep c the odds of transmission are only about 1.
