Epinephrine use in asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine use in asthma

epipen

Avatar n tn I have atrial arrhythmias and a moderate murmur. I also have asthma but use albuterol which is an adrenergic medication. It acts like adrenalin on the body. Yes, my heart rate increases when I use it but that's all. You need to have the insect sting managed. Anytime you have red streaks spreading out from a bite or wound, it's considered a medical emergency. When you go in, tell them your heart problems and let them decide which treatment to use.
Avatar m tn ve been able to get in to see a doctor and have gotten back on prescription asthma controller medicines (and have been making great strides in my goal of quitting smoking within the month). Since I've started back on maintenance medication, I've noticed that I don't feel as good as I did while on Primatene. I have a lot more tightness in my chest (not terrible, but noticeable) that one puff of Primatene would have taken care of.
Avatar n tn I am a 42 year old female who works in an office. I noticed about a year ago that perfume a certain young lady who works with me wore made me sick. I would get a very bad headache and have breathing difficulties. The breathing seems to be getting worse. She refuses to stop wearing this brand of perfume and now everytime she does I have to go home. I begin to feel like I'm trying to breathe through a straw and have to keep coughing and clearing my throat to get a good breath.
Avatar m tn Especially epinephrien. I have asthma and took primatene mist which is bad for people with asthma and it has epinephrine in it. I did abuse this medicine and I think maybe it caused some of the problems I have.
Avatar f tn Have you had your thyroid and those adrenal hormones: epinephrine, norepinephrine, metanephrine and normetanephrine levels checked? Do you have any additional symptoms that you think might be unrelated to menopause, such as shortness of breath with exertion?
Avatar n tn There is an entity called exercise induced Asthma, here as the person starts exercise, the changes in the environmental air breathed in trigger an attack of asthma, causing cough and breathlessness. Have yourself evaluated for the same. This can be detected by a spirometry test. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is relatively contraindicated in hyperthyroidism as the vascular effects of epinephrine can worsen this condition. A hyperthyroid patient may be more sensitive to the catecholamines and thyrotoxic or cardiotoxic symptoms can occur. Epinephrine is also relatively contraindicated in hypertension due to the risk of worsening this condition. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hypertension.
Avatar f tn So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar n tn Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity when epinephrine was given in doses approximately 25 times the usual recommended human dose (on a per kg basis). There are no reports of teratogenicity in humans. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar n tn I really appreciate it. Will the dentist be annoyed if I ask him to use lidocaine without epinephrine? Because, doesn't this mean he will have to keep injecting me to keep me numb? I have never been allergic to preservative substances as far as i am aware. If I do not use antibiotics prior or post root canal do i put myself at risk for infection? Thanks again!
1817071 tn?1366228243 I had a tooth pulled, they used epinephrine. I was in afib with low rate for 8 days. Then afib every 2-3 day. I was given Rythmol as PIP. I gradually have had less afib, but, each one has 100 for rate...I called dr. and asked him what to do....he said I needed ablation and bp monitors were not accurate. I got a new dr. and new dr. did not say anything about the lowered rate. I go to new EP next week. I will ask him.
1047019 tn?1256719961 We DO NOT have SYNTHETIC Epinephrine in our bodies. Any drug that is synthetic has been made this way by man in a lab & it is recognized as poison/unnatural to our bodies...hence this is why it causes reactions in some. The last time I was given it I thought I would die.
1305767 tn?1361192676 t bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
Avatar n tn Hi, Beta blockers are usually avoided in patients witha asthma - this is because they cause narrowing or constiction of the air passages or bronchus. This then leads to worsening of the symptoms of asthma. You need to talk to your doctor about this and discuss with him/her about your asthma status to. Take the approval or consultation of a chest specialist if you are still not convinced.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
975514 tn?1324997938 My son is on a steroid inhaler for asthma. He had several courses of pred for asthma attacks in the year preceeding his diagnosis. At first the docs were thinking that his adrenal insufficiency was due to this but as time has gone on they now think that he has Addisons and his asthma meds had nothing to do with it. I am not sure what is in Advair as I am in the UK but the base drug Fluticasone is the most likely suspect when asthma meds are implicated in Adrenal insufficiency.
878888 tn?1319634044 One way to tell is if your itch stops a few minutes after applying a good skin lotion/cream moisturizer like Cetaphil. If not, an evaluation by a Dermatologist is in order to rule out fungal infection, or other issues. Brain fog can be caused by a lot things; menopause, roller coaster glucose levels [highs then lows], depression, nutrient [mineral/s and/or vitamin/s] deficiency, junk foods, liver or kidney issues, cancer, and so on.
Avatar f tn It probably isn't the lidocaine, it's the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
Avatar f tn I feel king of dumb asking this, but has anyone here had an allergic reaction to bees that comes back hours later? After getting stung by bees I usually have about a 20-30 minute "window" to get to my epi shot and benedryl -my reaction is unusual in that I get dizzy, my blood pressure crashes, and my throat and chest get really tight. -No rashes or redness...
Avatar f tn Boy o boy am i going to weigh in on this one....no worries...i think the doc is right. I have had 6 root canals plus fillings, etc. and on top of that i have them numb me for the cleanings as well since i am such a baby at the dentist. I am on a beta blocker now and have been for about 3 years after my ablation was done and for a time before.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar m tn If, as I suspect, the diagnosis of asthma was made on the basis of wheezing it would be important to keep in mind that other lung conditions can mimic asthma in this way; specifically, diseases that can cause obstruction of the large airways, even obstruction of the windpipe (trachea) itself or disease of the vocal cords.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else tuck in house due to unhealthy air? I live in n calif & have asthma. Bored but asthma already acting up. Would love to hear from you.
Avatar m tn Clearly, you require an albuterol emergency inhaler (not the epinephrine sold in the drug stores). Your physician may also prescribe anti-histamines and prednisone for emergencfy use. "Cheaper and convenient" have no meaning for those in the grave.
Avatar f tn Its usually ok to get dental work done while pregnant. Next time though, if you remember, ask them to use anesthesia that doesn't have any epinephrine in it. Epinephrine can cause your heart rate to increase. And of course nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is definitely off limits.
