I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this:
"Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Dentists DO have the shots WITHOUT epinephrine. Just ask to have a shot without it, and they will give it to you. They have to have these shots available (without epinephrine) for people who have serious heart problems, blood pressure problems when having high anxiety like some people have when they go to the dentist.

However, I had SVT and found out the hard way that the shot the dentist gave me to "numb" the area before a root canal, contained a vaso stimumulator (adrenaline or adrenaline like substance) that made my heart go a hundred miles per hour, so to speak, in addition to the SVT.
I have had hives for a day & a half. I would like to know if this could be related to nerves. I don't have any food allergies. I went to the doctor yesterday, she gave me a shot of Epinephrine. That helped for a couple of hours. I have been taking benadryl every 6 hours & putting blue star ointment on. Before I got the shot my mouth was swelling and I almost lost my voice. Please, let me know what to do.
While he was injecting the second shot of novocaine, an SVT episode suddenly triggered. Fortunately for me, it was much weaker than it used to be, only lasted 1-2 minutes maximum, then stopped. My hands shook badly for another five minutes afterwards. He let me rest for a few minutes and I was feeling normal again so we were able to continue the dental work.
I have been fine since, no more episodes, have been exercising as usual. I did call my EP.
My doc faxed my dentist a letter sayin wat they were ok with and want they weren't. If u get work done and need a shot make sure it doesn't have epinephrine iin it. (Spelling may be off). Expect a lil bleeding too just cause of sensitive gums. O and no laughing gas!

I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.

It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine.
Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Can anyone here tell me if ms has any effect on either of the hormones epinephrine or norepinephrine?
Yeah I was wondering about the epinephrine. Someone was telling me I wouldnt stay numb if they didnt use epinephrine?? But I will definetely keep this in mind and talk to the dentist about it.
I feel king of dumb asking this, but has anyone here had an allergic reaction to bees that comes back hours later? After getting stung by bees I usually have about a 20-30 minute "window" to get to my epi shot and benedryl -my reaction is unusual in that I get dizzy, my blood pressure crashes, and my throat and chest get really tight. -No rashes or redness...
its totally safe to use anesthesia unless you have high blood pressure, which just means you don't use epinephrine with the shot; or only use a low dose of epi. Otherwise there isnt much reason to not get the anesthesia except preference.
m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.

Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding.
Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.

Epinephrine is known to act on the uterus through beta 2 receptors and can cause relaxation of the uterus. At term, it can prevent the contraction and delay the labor.

In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation.
I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
