Epinephrine in surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine in surgery

epipen

Avatar f tn im training as dentist and in want to know about dental surgery in drug abusers- what problems do you anticipate
Avatar f tn I had a skin cancer removal and they used epinephrine on me twice during MOHS surgery (they leave you in the office for a couple hours while the biopsy goes to pathology), then shoot you with epinephrine again. Well.......my body did not like it and I had a major problem, lost consciousness, etc. Maybe it has it do with the heart? This was not an experience I EVER want to go thru again.
Avatar f tn I had heart surgery to repair my mitral valve in November 2007. I was prescribed antibiotic by my cardiologist when I went in to the dentist even for just a routine cleaning and check-up. That was stopped after about two years. I have not had any antibiotic since then, I'd guess that was 2009. I now suffer from permanent atrial fibrillation, and take warfarin, an anticoagulant.
Avatar m tn Would Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery help avoiding complications, such as IFIS, in a male patient who has taken tamsulosin (Flomax)?
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is relatively contraindicated in hyperthyroidism as the vascular effects of epinephrine can worsen this condition. A hyperthyroid patient may be more sensitive to the catecholamines and thyrotoxic or cardiotoxic symptoms can occur. Epinephrine is also relatively contraindicated in hypertension due to the risk of worsening this condition. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hypertension.
Avatar n tn Lidocaine used as an anesthetic often has a small amount of epinephrine in the solution. The amount is so small that I have never heard of it causing tachycardia, although this is theoretically possible. Lidocaine and epinephrine is used in the suturing of millions of wounds every year with no cardiac events. My guess is that that is a coincidence here. The temporary fast heart rate in the absence of chest pain, pressure or other symptoms should have no long-lasting effects whatsoever.
Avatar n tn Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity when epinephrine was given in doses approximately 25 times the usual recommended human dose (on a per kg basis). There are no reports of teratogenicity in humans. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar f tn Do these drops have enough in it to maybe cause for me to have the same reaction? So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
1047019 tn?1256719961 We DO NOT have SYNTHETIC Epinephrine in our bodies. Any drug that is synthetic has been made this way by man in a lab & it is recognized as poison/unnatural to our bodies...hence this is why it causes reactions in some. The last time I was given it I thought I would die.
Avatar m tn The surgeon may possible have you use strong dilating drops for a few days before surgery, an injection of epinephrine or phenylephrine in the eye, the use of Healon 5 and or flexible, disposable iris retractors may also be needed. Overall, with proper technique, your risk of complications should be just a little more than the average case. I have been doing about 1 or 2 such cases a week for the last 3 years or so.
4703993 tn?1379768388 2 nmol/L) and epinephrine (0.29 ± 0.09 nmol/L) were normal (1.3 ± 0.1 nmol/L in 77 normal volunteers and 0.34 ± 0.03 nmol/L in 45 normal volunteers). During spontaneous loss of consciousness, all 4 patients had an increase in plasma epinephrine levels (mean 3.8 times baseline), and no change or a decrease in plasma norepinephrine levels (mean 0.86 times baseline), so that the plasma epinephrine:norepinephrine ratio increased substantially (5.3 times baseline).
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar n tn m feeling better and getting less P.V.C.s in my heart. But I need the surgery now since I became very ill from the tooth in May of this year and have been on antibiotics on and off since then( Clindamycin )..I had to discontinue today because of side effects and I have no idea if this was a wise choice or not before having the extraction.
Avatar n tn m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
1305767 tn?1361192676 t bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
1399363 tn?1462342610 It's possible to get tachycardia from novocaine unless it had epinephrine in it. Have you been getting it each time you went? If so, it may be in your best interests to call your dentist or cardiologist and report your tachycardia.
Avatar m tn I have ME/CFS and I hadnt seen the online warnings that for those of us with ME, anethestics with the epinephrine in them can be very bad and best avoided for those of us with this, so I found this out the hard way. I didnt have any other pain relief except this lidocaine injection so my reaction was certainly from that. It caused me to have a near seizure or a seizure. My legs started majorly jerking, I started twitching all over.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I had a tooth pulled, they used epinephrine. I was in afib with low rate for 8 days. Then afib every 2-3 day. I was given Rythmol as PIP. I gradually have had less afib, but, each one has 100 for rate...I called dr. and asked him what to do....he said I needed ablation and bp monitors were not accurate. I got a new dr. and new dr. did not say anything about the lowered rate. I go to new EP next week. I will ask him.
787406 tn?1339203183 t grow on trees and we are in debt for over 40,0000 dollars in medical bills since the insurance company is trying to call this pre-existing. I just want it to end, I want to wake up and feel good again.
Avatar n tn Have you or anyone else on here (since this was back in 2008 and it is now 2012... had any success in dealing with this. Havn't seen any responses since the original inquiries) I went to an allergist and they did small injections into the upper arm and I immediately had the flushing, rapid heart beat, high blood pressure, shaking ect... and this lasts for several hours and then I feel worn out for days.
