Epinephrine in lidocaine

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine in lidocaine

epipen

Avatar m tn Getting lidocaine for wisdom tooth extraction--felt the needle going in and woke up 45 minutes later in ER. I had had a seizure! Hundreds of shots for teeth over the years, never any such experience. Surgeon swore he found no blood in syringe and couldn't understand why I seized. Swore he did everything right, never heard of lidocaine causing a seizure this way. Apologized profusely. I'm now worried about completing the extraction, which has to be done.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn It probably isn't the lidocaine, it's the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
383138 tn?1314167773 When you get tachycardia, is it just the plain lidocaine or theres epinephrine in it? Usually for dental anesthesia they used mux of epinephrine and lidocaine.
Avatar n tn I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me. The Epinephrine was used to clot my blood and the Xylocaine to numb the area. I know the medical community doesn't know everything and they reassured me this medication would not reach my baby but I think they may have been wrong on this one.
Avatar n tn This is the second time in two years this happens. The first time it was lidocaine with epinephrine; this time it was carbocaine without epinephrine. I think the reaction resulted in slight chest tightness even. As I told the doctor, he stopped the surgery (he had not started it yet) and sent me to my primary doctor to get cardiac clearance. I am 29 and have never had any heart problems.

Avatar n tn Lidocaine used as an anesthetic often has a small amount of epinephrine in the solution. The amount is so small that I have never heard of it causing tachycardia, although this is theoretically possible. Lidocaine and epinephrine is used in the suturing of millions of wounds every year with no cardiac events. My guess is that that is a coincidence here. The temporary fast heart rate in the absence of chest pain, pressure or other symptoms should have no long-lasting effects whatsoever.
Avatar n tn 9 days ago my new dentist gave me a large dose of lidocaine/epinephrine on back molar (#17). Deep filling was needed. Most of my tongue has been numb since this procedure and I have had heart palpitations, chest pounding off and on since this happened. Also start shivering off and on. For past 3 days I have had chest pain when lying down...chest feels like it is being squeezed. Feel it now in any position but lying down increases the feeling. For past 2 days intense headache.
Avatar n tn with virtually no risk of side effects, especially cardiac ones, that would prevent you from having them administered. What it sounds like is you had a mild reaction to the epinephrine in the anesthetic previously. You can have your dentist use an anesthetic that does not contain epinephrine to rule out any possibility of these complications. For example, carbocaine 3% without epi. I use it every day on heart patients. It is perfectly safe if you are not allergic to it.
Avatar n tn Normally we aspirate the needle/syringe prior to injection. That's how we prevent intravascular injections of lidocaine. Otherwise it would directly travel up to the brain and can cause seizures or other symptoms such as restlessness, disorientation, etc. There are several possibilities in regards to the seizure. It may be due to an intravascular injection although from my understanding, the seizure would occur more rapidly since its goes directly to the brain quickly.
Avatar f tn Boy o boy am i going to weigh in on this one....no worries...i think the doc is right. I have had 6 root canals plus fillings, etc. and on top of that i have them numb me for the cleanings as well since i am such a baby at the dentist. I am on a beta blocker now and have been for about 3 years after my ablation was done and for a time before.
Avatar f tn it just might be from the epinephrine in it. He could be sensitive to it. I am and they say that it is a normal reaction but I still don't like it. Tell them you want your son to have carbocaine or anything else without the epi. If you decide to go to another dentist tell them what happened to him and say you don't want him to have it.
Avatar n tn For the first time in 37 years, two weeks ago when I received regular dental anesthetic my heart raced and I started having palpitations. It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same.
Avatar f tn t until about a month later after i had grieved that i researched it and i found out that lidocaine can cause organ failure in the foetus in early pregnancy!! i took this to the GDC and i received a letter saying that the dentist carried out correct procedure!
Avatar n tn Have you or anyone else on here (since this was back in 2008 and it is now 2012... had any success in dealing with this. Havn't seen any responses since the original inquiries) I went to an allergist and they did small injections into the upper arm and I immediately had the flushing, rapid heart beat, high blood pressure, shaking ect... and this lasts for several hours and then I feel worn out for days.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I had a tooth pulled, they used epinephrine. I was in afib with low rate for 8 days. Then afib every 2-3 day. I was given Rythmol as PIP. I gradually have had less afib, but, each one has 100 for rate...I called dr. and asked him what to do....he said I needed ablation and bp monitors were not accurate. I got a new dr. and new dr. did not say anything about the lowered rate. I go to new EP next week. I will ask him.
Avatar n tn One time I had to go straight to the ER from the ear, nose and throat Dr because he had sprayed lidocaine or zylocaine with epinephrine into my nose, but my reaction came only 20 minutes later because od the way it was ingested. The Dr told me I just had a sensitivity to it. PS. I have never had a reaction like that to Vicodin. I think one of the "caine" drigs is more likely the culprit.
Avatar f tn 100,000, Dose 20cc. Yes, this is the first time I have experienced this occurrence. I have a surgical biopsy soon because of more calcification in the same breast 1 year later; what do you suggest I tell the anaestesiologist?
419964 tn?1333301906 Dental work is safe, and my ob said with the lead apron X-rays were ok. My dentist was cautious though and skipped the X-rays. One important thing none of these other smart ladies mentioned, if you have a procedure done make sure they use a lidocaine or pain reliever that doesn't have epinephrine in it. Bad for baby and your heart. Also I agree with the others, double check with your obgyn about the heart risk. Never hurts to call and they are used to it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Do these drops have enough in it to maybe cause for me to have the same reaction? So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar n tn If he did, this is an injection of saline mixed with lidocaine and epinephrine and bicarbonate. If you had general anesthesia it is less likely, but if you had IV sedation, it is probable that you had those injections. Are you on antibiotics? Are you using chlorhexidine gluconate soap to cleanse your skin? The rash is likely a reaction to a specific injection, soap, bra, something new and probably a medrol dose pak will clear it up. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Also, when I go to the dentist, since I have an arrhythmia, I always ask that they use a local anesthetic (like Novocain) without Epinephrine, which is related to adrenaline. Epinephrine helps to sustain the anesthetic, but can cause heart rhythm problems. Many people probably don't realize, but Cocaine has a useful purpose in hospitals, as, you guessed it, a local anesthetic.
