Epinephrine in glaucoma

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine in glaucoma

epipen

Avatar f tn Epinephrine is relatively contraindicated in hyperthyroidism as the vascular effects of epinephrine can worsen this condition. A hyperthyroid patient may be more sensitive to the catecholamines and thyrotoxic or cardiotoxic symptoms can occur. Epinephrine is also relatively contraindicated in hypertension due to the risk of worsening this condition. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hypertension.
Avatar f tn For the past few months, I occasionally feel mild pain.pressur in my right eye. It's in the left side, near the front of my eye (right above the Iris). I'm in my late 30's. My mother was diagnosed with Glaucoma in her 50's. I'm under the impression that you do not "feel" the pressure of glaucoma, so this is probably not a sign that I'm getting it, but thought I'd get other's opinion. I had my eyes checked with a pressure test about 1 year ago.
Avatar n tn In a recent check up with the eye doctor who did my filtration surgery, I noted to him that I have a transparent body in the center of my operated eye. He said, 'oh thats just the glaucoma'. He did not look in my eye. I have read extensively about glaucoma, and nowhere is there reference to a translucent blotch, screen, veil, or other such indicator of glaucoma, particularly at the eye center. I do have PVD/floaters in that eye. The translucent body moves with my eye.
Avatar f tn 00 am. His eye pressure had increased to 22 and 27. The doctor says his optic nerves look fine, his peripheral vision is fine but has referred him to an ophthalmologist anyway. I have been worrying as I read that tumors or glaucoma can cause high intra-ocular pressure. Could this be just a normal high for him? He has no other problems or symptoms. What measures can be taken to reduce the pressure? Thanks much.
Avatar m tn Is your eye doctor a MD ophthalmologist? I would suggest you find a Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in glaucoma and go in for a complete exam and determine if it is a problem. You may not need to many visits and tests. The eye infection would not be a cause of pressure in eye.
Avatar n tn Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity when epinephrine was given in doses approximately 25 times the usual recommended human dose (on a per kg basis). There are no reports of teratogenicity in humans. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar n tn I have glaucoma and am developing cataracts that is majorly changing my vision.for the worse. I also have high myopia. My current ophthalmologist who has been treating me for glaucoma the past few years is now recommending sugery to help control my glaucoma. He feels medication is not doing enough. He does the sugery, but, in my case, is referring me to a specialist.
Avatar f tn Do these drops have enough in it to maybe cause for me to have the same reaction? So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar n tn You cannot make a diagnosis of glaucoma from that data. The diagnosis would depend on many other factors: age, family history, visual fields, corneal thickness, stereo optic nerve photos, gonioscopy, NFL OCT are the most important.
Avatar f tn I heard that it is almost impossible to diagnose early glaucoma in severely myopic eyes, because the fundus looks very alike as in early glaucoma. What tests should I do to monitor glaucoma onset? GDX,HRT all are useless in my case, the optic nerve in extreme myopia is different than in healthy eyes. I have no family history of glaucoma, my intraocular pressure is rarely higher than 14, never extended 20.Last time it was 12.
1047019 tn?1256719961 We DO NOT have SYNTHETIC Epinephrine in our bodies. Any drug that is synthetic has been made this way by man in a lab & it is recognized as poison/unnatural to our bodies...hence this is why it causes reactions in some. The last time I was given it I thought I would die.
Avatar f tn and have a full glaucoma workup done as soon as possible. Sometimes glaucoma can occur with normal pressure (normal tension glaucoma), and steroid use has been demonstrated to affect intraocular pressure.
Avatar f tn But ongoing care is needed annually as the tests do not mean you will not get glaucoma in the future, but the larger cupping does not put you at higher risk. I have been answering questions on this forum for over 15 years. Your type of complaints and observations are extremely common. There are extended discussion that have gone on for years. You can use the search feature to read them.
Avatar m tn The second time I went to see the optometrist, he told me the glaucoma test showed I had an elevated IO pressure of 27, and said I have around a 65% chance of developing glaucoma. That was around a year ago. However, I have started to notice my vision getting worse. My visual acuity has dropped from 20/70-20/80, from simple tests @ home I have noticed a slight drop in peripheral vision, and a recent symptom has developed.
Avatar n tn Both have undergone extensive treatments and surgeries on their eyes due to severe glaucoma. They are under the care of a highly qualified opthalmologist specializing in glaucoma treatment. My sister underwent a routine procedure last week and since then has had considerable vision loss. Ultimately, we are looking to get our hands on as much information as we possibly can about glaucoma as it relates to Reigers.

Avatar n tn As in is CACG more severe in its symptoms or more difficult to treat and open angle glaucoma is asymptomatic? In addition, I would like to know in your clinical experience, does the side effects of Xalatan such as redness and itching usually subside with most patients as they get used to the drug? I have read that Travatan Z uses a milder preservative compared to Xalatan. In terms of efficacy in lowering IOP, is it as effective as Xalatan? Thanks.
4703993 tn?1379768388 2 nmol/L) and epinephrine (0.29 ± 0.09 nmol/L) were normal (1.3 ± 0.1 nmol/L in 77 normal volunteers and 0.34 ± 0.03 nmol/L in 45 normal volunteers). During spontaneous loss of consciousness, all 4 patients had an increase in plasma epinephrine levels (mean 3.8 times baseline), and no change or a decrease in plasma norepinephrine levels (mean 0.86 times baseline), so that the plasma epinephrine:norepinephrine ratio increased substantially (5.3 times baseline).
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar m tn Also, another question - if glaucoma develops, for examples, in someone who is in 30s and not in early 20s then usually it is less aggressive, is it true that as glaucoma "ages" (as in the patient that is diagnosed with glaucoma gets older) it becomes weaker? I have read only about few cases when people with glaucoma in early 20s lived with vision for over 40 years (and still living), maybe i'm wrong and glaucoma "aggression rate" is independent of age after all.
Avatar n tn m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
Avatar f tn Boy o boy am i going to weigh in on this one....no worries...i think the doc is right. I have had 6 root canals plus fillings, etc. and on top of that i have them numb me for the cleanings as well since i am such a baby at the dentist. I am on a beta blocker now and have been for about 3 years after my ablation was done and for a time before.
Avatar f tn My readings in both my eyes today were 30 and he didn’t seem that alarmed as my other doctor would have been. So he prescribed me timoptic ocudose .50 a preservative free drop 50 to take in the morning only. Just a little concern, as I see on this forum concerns about pressures that are in low 20s or high teens. But yes I am going with the glaucoma specialists.
1305767 tn?1361192676 t bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
