Epinephrine in anesthesia

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine in anesthesia

epipen

Avatar f tn Its usually ok to get dental work done while pregnant. Next time though, if you remember, ask them to use anesthesia that doesn't have any epinephrine in it. Epinephrine can cause your heart rate to increase. And of course nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is definitely off limits.
Avatar f tn I recently went through a similar experience with lidocaine. I had a ruptured cyst in my breast and as it had broken through one of my milk ducts it had developed an abscess. The doctor wouldn't let me leave without having a butt shot of antibiotics - she wanted fast acting because I had a high fever and my breast was the size of Mount St. Helens. When the nurse came in to inject me she made the mistake of telling me that it was antibiotic PLUS lidocaine.
Avatar f tn its totally safe to use anesthesia unless you have high blood pressure, which just means you don't use epinephrine with the shot; or only use a low dose of epi. Otherwise there isnt much reason to not get the anesthesia except preference.
Avatar f tn Periodic administration of local anesthesia without epinephrine and /or systemic administration of gabapenti/amitriptline may solve your complaints. Seeing an Orofacial pain specialist is advised.
Avatar f tn In local anesthetics (like those used in dentistry), it's the epinephrine that's mixed in with the anesthetic that causes the problems for most patients with dysautonomia. There are local anesthetic formulations available without epinephrine, they just last for shorter periods of time and may require higher doses for efficacy.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I had a tooth pulled, they used epinephrine. I was in afib with low rate for 8 days. Then afib every 2-3 day. I was given Rythmol as PIP. I gradually have had less afib, but, each one has 100 for rate...I called dr. and asked him what to do....he said I needed ablation and bp monitors were not accurate. I got a new dr. and new dr. did not say anything about the lowered rate. I go to new EP next week. I will ask him.
Avatar f tn after further research i have found out, x rays with abdominal shield or paranorma of jaw and teeth is allowed. there is usually no pain in cleanings but some cases in pregnancy it happens. my gums have been bleeding during the past 2 months but i had no pain. also fillings are allowed with local anesthesia not containing epinephrine. whitening is advised for post delivery.
Avatar f tn So I'm about to schedule an appointment because I have 2 cavities that need fixed bad!! What would be the best pain med that's safe for my baby? My mom in law said ask for the gas but my husband said just get the shots! Idk what I'm doing? Anyone been through this? What did you get and were there any complications with pregnancy or baby?
Avatar f tn The needle, catheter, and probe used during this RFA procedure does not enter the spinal canal and cannot cause those symptoms. In the lumbar area, the anatomy is such that major blood vessels are not disturbed. I am suspecting the local anesthetic absorbed by capillary action, or IV anesthesia used during your procedure may have caused these side effects -- perhaps the benzodiazepene medication midazolam (Versed) given as part of the "conscious sedation" used for this procedure.
Avatar f tn You should tell the anesthesiologist the reaction you had during the administration of the anesthesia so that anesthesia induction can be delivered safely and uneventful. Perhaps a different kind of anesthesia can be given to you. Take care.
Avatar n tn when they put the mask on and put the IV in my arm for the anesthesia, i immediate went out, but it was the most uncomfortable pressure in my head i ever felt, with the last image i saw repeating itself at a very fast pace, and the last sound i heard repeating itself as well. i was unconscious, but i was conscious of being unconscious. i wasn't aware of my body, but my mind was awake. i knew immediately something was wrong, but i didn't know what was happening just that it was bad.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is relatively contraindicated in hyperthyroidism as the vascular effects of epinephrine can worsen this condition. A hyperthyroid patient may be more sensitive to the catecholamines and thyrotoxic or cardiotoxic symptoms can occur. Epinephrine is also relatively contraindicated in hypertension due to the risk of worsening this condition. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hypertension.
Avatar n tn Animal studies have revealed evidence of teratogenicity when epinephrine was given in doses approximately 25 times the usual recommended human dose (on a per kg basis). There are no reports of teratogenicity in humans. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar f tn Do these drops have enough in it to maybe cause for me to have the same reaction? So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
383138 tn?1314167773 Are you sure it wasnt the epinephrine that caused it? (Epi caused tachycardia) Usually anesthesia is a combo of numbing and epi.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
1047019 tn?1256719961 We DO NOT have SYNTHETIC Epinephrine in our bodies. Any drug that is synthetic has been made this way by man in a lab & it is recognized as poison/unnatural to our bodies...hence this is why it causes reactions in some. The last time I was given it I thought I would die.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. I am in need of having to get some dental work done where I know for sure that I am going to be needing antiobiotics. Since my heart is so sensitive to stimulants such as, caffeine, asthma inhalers, choclate, antihistamines, and too much sugar and salt I am very worried about having to take these antibiotics for probably a week or so maybe even twice a day. My mom tells me that people die because of certain antibiotics.
1182699 tn?1297574784 It's funny that you said that...after I posted earlier, I called a friend of mine who's a dentist and he said he always put his patients on antibiotics before the procedure which helped to enable the effect of the anethesia. I actually go see an Endodontist on Monday and I insisted on antibiotics today before I left my dentist. I hear this Endodontist is a God at numbing just one tooth for the procedure so he may became my new favorite person if all goes well.
4703993 tn?1379768388 2 nmol/L) and epinephrine (0.29 ± 0.09 nmol/L) were normal (1.3 ± 0.1 nmol/L in 77 normal volunteers and 0.34 ± 0.03 nmol/L in 45 normal volunteers). During spontaneous loss of consciousness, all 4 patients had an increase in plasma epinephrine levels (mean 3.8 times baseline), and no change or a decrease in plasma norepinephrine levels (mean 0.86 times baseline), so that the plasma epinephrine:norepinephrine ratio increased substantially (5.3 times baseline).
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar n tn m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
1305767 tn?1361192676 t bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
Avatar n tn I think the reaction you had to the anesthesia might be related to the epinephrine(which is the anesthetic) entering your blood stream. Also you might get a reaction from the local anesthesia if you have not eaten. My concern is the amount of pain you are in and the fact that the furcation area(where the roots split) is involved.I don't know the prognosis of the tooth but the endodontist should be able to give you some idea for the long term.
1212601 tn?1276920691 My second pregnancy the baby was facing awkwardly and I was in agony despite only being 2cm dilated. I had to beg for an epidural as i really could not cope with the pain - although the pain immediately went it did result in a long labour and forceps delivery which left me with a severe tear requiring a lot of stitches, it took me nearly as long to recover from that as it did the c-section!
Avatar m tn Some months ago I had an anesthesia for a gastroscopy. There were usde the following neuroleptics: propofol, midazolam and fentanyl. I slept for about 2 hours and as soon as I woke up I was abnormally acting like a drunk. That being ended up in a couple of hours but unfortunately some symptoms and problems remained.
