Avatar n tn Toprol (beta blockers) Inhibit healthy levels of the catecholamine hormones (epinephrine and nor-epinephrine) Adrenalin. Thus they inhibit good estrogen, allowing the bad estrogen to possibly promote cancer. The following is from www.vrp.com read the whole artical under (DIM). If you have a-fib and on a beta blocker I would hesitate to supplement with (dim). Any increase in Adrenalin could cause a-fib.
770296 tn?1244385841 This test is used to detect pheochromocytoma, a tumor of the adrenal medulla that secretes excess cathecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine, Catecholamines are a group of similar hormones produced in the adrenal medulla, the interior portion of the adrenal glands. Adrenal glands are small, triangular organs located on top of each kidney. The primary catecholamines are dopamine, epinephrine (adrenaline), and norepinephrine.
Avatar n tn I believe you asked about HYPOglycemia: The symptoms are vary varied and might include dizziness, feeling generally out of it, fatigue, irritability, disorientation, tingling. Testing is the key as if your numbers have been high for awhile you will feel low even if you're not. You should treat any lows below 60 (some treat below 70) with a couple glucose tablets. You will learn the correct number for you.
Avatar n tn I'm a female, age 46, began having extremely low energy and lack of stamina about seven years ago. Nothing helped until a few weeks ago when I started taking an l-carnitine supplement. I felt better almost immediately. I've had symptoms of hypoglycemia all my life (I used to pass out in high school and was on seizure meds until I realized all I had to do was eat a candy bar), but blood glucose levels are usually normal when measured. Annual fasting test is normal.
Avatar m tn t have enough insulin available to help the glucose get into the cells, and to regulate how much glucose the liver releases, then the net effect is that your blood glucose will be higher after exercise.
Avatar m tn I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels. My wife on the other hand continues to take Metformin while on the statin drug.
Avatar f tn I had impaired glucose tolerance due to hyperthyroidism. From the list below - thyrotoxicosis aka too much thyroid hormone. Excerpt from Dr Kaslow's article General lab values..
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
Avatar m tn But my RBC, HGB hemoglobin, HCT hematocrit, glucose GLU and biacarbonate is above normal. I do not know what could be wrong and I want to know what is wrong. I think it is something wrong with my metabolism and I dont want it to be so high. What do you think I could have or be causing my heatness all the time.
Avatar n tn It has not been WIDELY studied but there is some preliminary data to suggest that it may help improve glucose metabolism. Right now I do not know of any worrisome side effects/ downsides if vinegar is taken in small amounts. Hope this helps, take care.
Avatar n tn what do I need to take or do to help my metabolism improve my body cell's ability to absorb and utilize blood sugar?
Avatar f tn Usually you do not eat before the test...they also don't usually give it to you cold because the cold with boost metabolism and skew results...good luck! Check with your dr about the eating thing...if your fasting sugar is too high they won't do the rest of the test.
878888 tn?1319634044 Good to see your hypothyroidism hasn't worsened but not the glucose levels or BP. Your A1c equates to 166 mg/dl, going higher. Try reading other threads on this forum for comments I made on proper foods to eat and avoid to help with lowering your glucose levels. Also, be sure to take Metformin with food to lessen the chance of naseau. Look up Metformin and print out the side effects. Not all medication suites everyone.
798555 tn?1292787551 I know there is a few people here with blood glucose levels, weather diabetic or not. I'm not diabetic by the way, and really want to avoid it obviously. I'm just wondering if anyone has noticed if there glucose goes up when they are hypo thyroid per labs. It only makes sense to me as the pancrease might not completely do its insulin job when your hypo, so more sugar floating around in your blood.
Avatar f tn They state that excess dietary lysine did not change serum lipids and glucose significantly. The data showed that excess lysine caused changes in lipid metabolism which varied with the quantity of casein in it. Regards.
Avatar f tn I would say that there could be a relation yes, at least theoretically, but an endocrinologist would be able to answer this question correctly.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar m tn s metabolism, on chemicals in the blood, and on certain body characteristics. The adrenal cortex secretes corticosteroids and other hormones directly into the bloodstream. Avatar f tn I have a fasting blood glucose level of 101 and 102 for several years now and have been taking diovan hct and excedrin. I know these drugs have the ability to raise blood sugar readings. Should I be concerned about these readings? If I get off these drugs will my levels return to normal?
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar n tn When you do strenuous exercise all the glucose in muscles is depleted and due to the craving Liver starts metabolism of converting your stores into Glucose for energy. If your muscles are deprived for long you get this lactic acidosis or muscle cramps. So for getting continuous energy you have to tone your body. 1st week 5kms, 2nd week 10kms and like that depending on your capacity, BMI, BMR you increase the exertion and make your body acclimatized. With that you would need more of energy.
Avatar m tn Any information at a cellular level or having to do with glucose changes because of stress would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I agree with what Barb has said. I would also add that the thyroid med is not a likely contributor to the weight gain, if you had questions about that. It is possible that your thyroid hormone levels are not adequate to get your metabolism to the right level for you. If you will please post your thyroid test results, and their reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be glad to assess the adequacy of your testing and test levels.
Avatar n tn said everything was good except for his Glucose. To elimante sugars and carbs and see you back in 3 months. We received a copy of his blood work today. His Glucose is 110, Sodium 141, TSH 3rd generation is 4.80. Triglycerides 199, Total Cholesterol 179, HDL 24 L , LDL 115 and his CHOL/HDLC 7.5. My main question is could the things that were flagged ( above ) especially the TSH 3 be due to Cholesterol and Glucose?
Avatar n tn Glucagon is an important hormone involved in carbohydrate metabolism. Produced by the pancreas, it is released when the glucose level in the blood is low (hypoglycemia), causing the liver to convert stored glycogen into glucose and release it into the bloodstream. The action of glucagon is thus opposite to that of insulin, which instructs the body's cells to take in glucose from the blood in times of satiation.
