Epinephrine for shock

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine for shock

epipen

Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Epinephrine is known to act on the uterus through beta 2 receptors and can cause relaxation of the uterus. At term, it can prevent the contraction and delay the labor.
Avatar f tn s family doctor needs to write him a prescription for an EPI PEN and show him how to administer the EPI PEN . EPI stands for epinephrine. Your brother needs to discuss his peanut allergy with his family doctor. You and your brother should also not buy any bakery goods in a store as these often contain traces of peanuts and other nuts. My advice to you and your brother is stay away from all kinds of nuts. Do not eat any kind of nuts.
Avatar f tn I have had bad reactions to regular novocaine in the past, prior to my SVT diagnosis in 2001, so he has given me lidocaine since then. For the past ten years prior to my ablation in April 2011, I was on beta blockers (atenolol) so there were no issues. I was taken off beta blockers 3 weeks after my ablation. Have had dental work requiring lidocaine since then, with no issues until now. While he was injecting the second shot of novocaine, an SVT episode suddenly triggered.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn In my experience, the anesthetic without epinephrine is shorter acting, but it's been plenty for me for fillings and if it wears off, they can just give you another shot, no problem. I wouldn't worry about that at all.
Avatar n tn There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
Avatar m tn The side effects stated are for the duration for the prescription period or are they long lasting ?. my doctor has recommended that i take it for 6 months (pardon me for asking such questions as i am curious to know as much as possible before i start the medication.thanks again for your time.
Avatar f tn So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.

Avatar m tn Nicotine is a vasoconstricter, meaning it makes it harder to pump blood through microcirculation. Furthermore there is no antidote. Nicotine is is absolutely contraindicated. You have a potentially life-threatening problem that cannot be solved by home remedies. You do not know when the situation may deteriorate into what is called a "locked-lung" resulting in death. The fact you have observed the symtoms progressively get worse over a period of time disturbs me.
1047019 tn?1256719961 More than likely you didn't have an allergic reaction, it's so rare for that to happen. The dentist probably injected the novacaine directly into the vein instead of into the gum like they were supposed to. This happened to me 2 years ago and I seriously thought I was going to do. If it wasn't injected into your vein then you are probably just hypersensitive to it. Your allergy to wheat and gluten probably has nothing to do with the novacaine.
539780 tn?1213943976 Emergency medical kits containing self-administrable epinephrine to counter anaphylactic shock are available for allergic people and should be carried by them at all times. People who suspect they are allergic should consult an allergist about shots that can reduce reactions to bee and wasp venom. Most stings can be treated at home.
Avatar f tn re at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar f tn In case of shock epinephrine injections with supportive treatment can help cope with this. While minor allergies can be controlled with antihistamines.
Avatar n tn Epinephrine is basically like adrenaline and for an adregenic afibber such as my self it is a definate no-no. I even have to ask for the Epi free form of novacaine at the dentist office. I would definately see a Dr and tell him my contidions and see what they say. De sure to tell him about your MVP.
Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!
Avatar f tn Just ask to have a shot without it, and they will give it to you. They have to have these shots available (without epinephrine) for people who have serious heart problems, blood pressure problems when having high anxiety like some people have when they go to the dentist.
Avatar f tn I had similar symptoms for years - the hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, terrible periods and some weight gain. I kept telling my doctor I felt like I was heading towards menopause. The blood test always came back normal. Even up to a few months before my last period, I was sure menopause was just around the corner. The blood test said everything was normal. Sure enough, a few months after my annual exam, I had my final period. Everything has mellowed out and I feel wonderful.
1305767 tn?1361192676 t bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
1399363 tn?1462342610 i have been experiancing tachycardia and palpitation for years for unknown reason (doctors still couldnt find it but it's not psychologycal problem) and on beta-blocker. I just got root cannal treatment for 1 teeth last week for the 1 day. The doctor killed the nerve(thats what they told me) temporary filled it and sent me home. Yesterday i went back there and the doctor said they clean up my root cannal and pull out the nerve, filled it and sent me home.
Avatar m tn I have ME/CFS and I hadnt seen the online warnings that for those of us with ME, anethestics with the epinephrine in them can be very bad and best avoided for those of us with this, so I found this out the hard way. I didnt have any other pain relief except this lidocaine injection so my reaction was certainly from that. It caused me to have a near seizure or a seizure. My legs started majorly jerking, I started twitching all over.
1092972 tn?1263047508 All they can do is administer epinephrine and a few choice cocktails and hope for the best until all of my blood draws testing for allergens come back. I am not a candidate for skin testing because I cannot come off of all of my medications especially since I am having these episodes while on them. It is scary in all honesty because I don't know what to eat.... or what to and not to do. I lost my job from time missed from work and am just praying for some answers at this point.
750269 tn?1233271586 It is a rare condition in which hives develop within 1 to 15 minutes after contact with water. The hives last for 10 to 120 minutes and do not seem to be caused by histamine release like the other physical hives. Most investigators believe that this condition is actually exquisite skin sensitivity to additives in the water such as chlorine but distilled water can also cause this reaction.
