Avatar f tn I have had hives for a day & a half. I would like to know if this could be related to nerves. I don't have any food allergies. I went to the doctor yesterday, she gave me a shot of Epinephrine. That helped for a couple of hours. I have been taking benadryl every 6 hours & putting blue star ointment on. Before I got the shot my mouth was swelling and I almost lost my voice. Please, let me know what to do.

I am going in today to get an epinephrine shot (epi-pen for allergic reactions) to hopefully clear the hives, so I can get back to managing the riba rash. Good luck, I know it's making you nuts. I'll let you know if the epi clears the hives.

Avatar m tn The minute sensitivity starts, the next attack may result in death and an antidote should be kept on the person forever. It is not unusual for such a sensitivity to start at some point in life for reasons that are unclear. Consult your allergist to put together a "kit" of emergency medications. Prednisone, epinephrine and an antihistamine are commonly prescribed and kept on hand. You must srupulously avoid shellfish.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with chronic hives angiodema and anaphylaxis for last 3 mos. I am currently on 30 mg of steroids, benadryl, and 30 mg of zyrtec along with pepcid. My condition with the hives keep getting worse. The doctors did blood work which they all said came back normal and also tsh and thyroid antibody test. My TSH came back they say as normal it was a 4.48. My thyroid peroxidase ab came back as 1226. My thyroglobulin was <20 which was normal.
Avatar f tn A reaction that causes hives, for example, can cause an asthmatic attack the next. The next exposure could be fatal. This is a potentially life-threatening condition. You need to consult with a specialist in allergies, and take the series of tests he advises. Often there are a constellation of foods/substances associated with a specific allergy. Many catsups are colored with food dye, so that may be the issue.
