Hi, welcome to the forum, Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding.
Epinephrine is known to act on the uterus through beta 2 receptors and can cause relaxation of the uterus. At term, it can prevent the contraction and delay the labor.
In my experience, the anesthetic without epinephrine is shorter acting, but it's been plenty for me for fillings and if it wears off, they can just give you another shot, no problem. I wouldn't worry about that at all.
I have ME/CFS and I hadnt seen the online warnings that for those of us with ME, anethestics with the epinephrine in them can be very bad and best avoided for those of us with this, so I found this out the hard way.
I didnt have any other pain relief except this lidocaine injection so my reaction was certainly from that. It caused me to have a near seizure or a seizure. My legs started majorly jerking, I started twitching all over.
I went when I was 8weeks and im 24 weeks now and need to go again. Its the same as all dental appointments. Just ask for an extra xray vest if u get xrays and also they have something thats like novacain idk how to spell it. Anyway ask for that, it doesnt have something in it that novacain does that makes that babys heart beat faster.
I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this:

So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Especially epinephrien. I have asthma and took primatene mist which is bad for people with asthma and it has epinephrine in it. I did abuse this medicine and I think maybe it caused some of the problems I have.
re at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
husband has had low cortisol but works nights so dr does not think it is low because days and nights reversed although has ordered cortisol 1 hour after he wakes. AM ccrtisol has been between 1 and 5, below range low of 6.7. although cortisol stimulated to 13.7. Dr ordered 24 hour urine for catecholamines in July and December. both times epinephrine NE <5 &<6 below clinical reportable range.
Epinephrine is basically like adrenaline and for an adregenic afibber such as my self it is a definate no-no. I even have to ask for the Epi free form of novacaine at the dentist office.
I would definately see a Dr and tell him my contidions and see what they say.

Just ask to have a shot without it, and they will give it to you. They have to have these shots available (without epinephrine) for people who have serious heart problems, blood pressure problems when having high anxiety like some people have when they go to the dentist.
I had similar symptoms for years - the hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, terrible periods and some weight gain. I kept telling my doctor I felt like I was heading towards menopause. The blood test always came back normal. Even up to a few months before my last period, I was sure menopause was just around the corner. The blood test said everything was normal. Sure enough, a few months after my annual exam, I had my final period. Everything has mellowed out and I feel wonderful.
Teeth cleaning is perfectly fine I'm 28 weeks and just went to the dentist last month to have my teeth cleaned and a week ago I got crowns done so it's definitely ok. I'm not sure about whitening though.

I have had bad reactions to regular novocaine in the past, prior to my SVT diagnosis in 2001, so he has given me lidocaine since then. For the past ten years prior to my ablation in April 2011, I was on beta blockers (atenolol) so there were no issues. I was taken off beta blockers 3 weeks after my ablation. Have had dental work requiring lidocaine since then, with no issues until now.
While he was injecting the second shot of novocaine, an SVT episode suddenly triggered.
Our cardiologist has prescribed atenolol (25mg) for Nick and has also requested a 24-hour urine test for pheochromocytoma. I was reading over the warnings with the atenolol and it says that it works by "blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body such as ephinephrine on the heart and blood vessels."
It also says to consult your doctor before using if you have "..........a certain type of tumor (pheochromocytoma).
